Sanders thanks Boston restaurant for chips, salsa, and a side of support
Bessie King was getting ready to close up Villa Mexico Cafe Monday night when a customer walked over to the counter to show her something on his phone.
As King stared at the screen, she realized it was an image of a bag of tortilla chips and salsa, accompanied by a note that she had written, which she gave to Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ campaign staff earlier that day.
“We saw it, and we were, like, ‘Oh, my God!’ ” said King, who co-owns the Water Street restaurant with her mother, Julie.
Sanders’ staff had posted the picture, which showed the handwritten note of support from King, to both Instagram and Tumblr.
The caption next to the image read, “To Julie and Bessie: Thank you for this lovely note. Happy to hear that you #FeelTheBern.”j

When a customer told King in the afternoon Monday that Sanders was around the corner from her restaurant, she put the note and chips together and dashed down the street.
The note said, “Welcome to Boston! We own a small Mexican restaurant here on Water Street (my mom and I) and when customers said you may be coming we came out to see and ‘feel the Bern’ in person. We are rooting and voting for you. Stay strong and God bless you.”

Like millions of others, Bernie was a back to the land Hippie
He moved to the country, did a lot of odd jobs, built his own funky house, had a kid and eventually got involved in politics. Until recently,no one on DU would condemn anyone for this.

A high-profile ally of Hillary Clinton is calling on Sen. Bernie Sanders to “immediately halt all negative campaigning” against the Democratic front-runner.
David Brock, founder of the Correct the Record super PAC, released a letter to Mr. Sanders Tuesday warning him that he could damage Mrs. Clinton’s chances against Republicans if he attacks her character and motivations.
The letter reflects a growing confidence in Mrs. Clinton’s camp that coming off her victory in the Nevada caucuses on Saturday she is in strong position to capture the Democratic nomination. Mrs. Clinton won two of the first three Democratic contests. Next up is the South Carolina primary on Saturday. A majority of the state’s Democratic voters are African-American, a loyal Clinton constituency, and polls show she is favored to win.
Mr. Brock, in an interview, said he grew concerned about Mr. Sanders’s intentions after seeing some of his statements following the Nevada caucuses. Mr. Sanders suggested during a news conference on Monday in Boston that his rival inevitably will be influenced by the millions of dollars in “special interest money” flowing into the main pro-Clinton super PAC, Priorities USA Action.
“Now, maybe they are dummies,” Mr. Sanders said of Wall Street interests. “And maybe they just think they throw millions of dollars and expect to get nothing. Maybe. I doubt that very much.”

Saint Hillary: Why My Christian Faith Obligates Me to Support Hillary Clinton

Surrounded by impressive stone walls, elaborate and ornate Biblical images, with bold colors streaming through stained glass windows, the faithful bow their heads in prayer. Seated in the wooden pew of the Foundry United Methodist Church in Washington DC is a humble woman of faith. At this moment, she is not a former First Lady, Senator or Secretary of State. She is not a presidential candidate or any type of politician at all. At this moment, she is Hillary Clinton, follower of Christ.
Many politicians use their religious affiliations as their pulpit or platform to influence voters or to give themselves credibility, but being a Christ-follower is more than just lip-service or a club membership. Being a Christian isn't something that has to be professed through catchy phrases on a bumper sticker or an overtly Christian image on a t-shirt. True Christianity is not shouted from a hilltop, but whispered in the actions of the follower. Christianity is detected through action. Waving a Bible doesn't get the minimum wage raised or feed hungry kids. Waving a Bible doesn't give sick people the health care they need, nor does it help the less fortunate. Christianity is seen when those who follow Christ and profess their faith demonstrate the very nature of the Lord in their outward actions and personal interactions.
The Bible is clear that we, those who profess their faith in Christ, are to be the human, active, mobile hands and feet of Christ. We are supposed to do more than tell the world that we are Christians. We are to treat others in a way that is consistent with Christ himself. In others words,"faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead" (James 2:17 NIV). This commitment to being a concrete and tangible ambassador of Christ is the difference between Hillary Clinton and other politicians.

Like Hillary Clinton, I was raised in a Christian home. And like her, my faith has always been a big part of what defines me personally, professionally and politically. As with all other major areas of my life, I don't take the decision of who to vote for or endorse for president lightly. Q. Do you believe Bernie Sanders has ever allowed a campaign contribution to influence an official act?
A. I do know there’s been some hypocrisy here. It came out over the weekend—I go to the DSCC retreats myself. I’ve seen Senator Sanders myself sitting on the deck of a nice hotels talking to lobbyists, talking to people from the financial sector who are there supporting the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and they’ve supported his Senate races. So I think the purity bubble here is about to burst. I think that what we’re seeing is politics as usual. I’m not making accusations that he’s done anything. I won’t make those accusations in the way they’ve made them against Secretary Clinton because we don’t have any evidence of that. … Lets get real here and let’s not having the pot calling the kettle black.
Q. Clinton pollster Joel Benenson said that Bernie Sanders is running “the most negative campaign” of any Democrat in primary history. Do you agree?
A. I think so. … All of these attacks on Secretary Clinton at the end of thee day are character attacks. They’re very personal they’re totally unwarranted and it’s especially troubling because he’s using the Republican playbook against Secretary Clinton these are exactly the kinds of attacks certainly after she wins the nomination that they will be launching, and I think it’s very troubling that he’s using these same tactics. It’s false, it’s wrong and it’s about the time that Secretary Clinton speaks up about that.

"As a shareholder and director of our company, I’m always proud of Wal-Mart.” These are the words of Hillary Clinton at the company’s 1990 stockholder meeting. You might not recognize this version of Clinton because the more recent version has attempted to match Democratic challenger Sen. Bernie Sanders in his disdain for ‘big business.’ But Clinton’s record at Wal-Mart should make voters question both the authenticity of her populism as well as the genuineness of her proposed policy solutions.
First, some background. Clinton was a director at Wal-Mart from 1986-1992, a time of rapid growth for the company. From 1986-1991, Wal-Mart created 230,000 jobs, more than any other firm in the country. The company grew quickly because it was wildly profitable and it was wildly profitable because it obsessively managed expenses. Cost management was vital to Walmart because, like most retailers, its profit margin — the amount of profit a business makes on each dollar in sales— is notoriously thin. For every dollar in sales Walmart makes, the company pockets just about three cents in profit.

Cheap Hotels, Mate Tea, and Friendly Secret Service: On the Nevada Trail with Bernie Sande

Over two days, multiple reporters on the trail would tell me that the Sanders outfit was one the most open campaigns towards media they had ever come across. At the bar Thursday night, staffers who had previously worked in Obama's 2008 and 2012 campaign agreed, saying even they were surprised how much access Sanders's top tier of operatives have granted to the press.
Sanders campaign staffers are also a fairly friendly lot. Most have no qualms telling you about their pre-campaign lives or pouring you cups of mate tea from a thermos in the middle of a rally. The senator's head of secret service is the first to say good morning and point you toward the sandwich table. It's always sandwiches at Sanders events, but no one can complain — we're travelling with the socialist candidate after all. The whole vibe typically is a world apart from other candidates' tightly controlled and buttoned-up campaigns. At Donald Trump rallies, bouncer-type security guards gruffly handle reporters and protesters, many times at the direction of the man himself. Most campaigns also regulate the production of their official candidate merchandise, sales from which go directly into their war chests. Sanders staffers on the other hand, tolerate but do not encourage an entourage of travelling salesmen who set up shop outside major events hawking unofficial gear, including hats, badges, and t-shirts bearing the now-famed slogan "Feel the Bern."
The level of openness surprised me, not least because Sanders's disdain for corporate media is infamous, and as a rookie embed you're not exactly sure what to expect.

Even Sanders's celebrity surrogates are housed in hotel rooms that are usually around the $100 mark. In Iowa, artists and musicians like Vampire Weekend and Foster the People, who were there to stump and play concerts for Sanders, were put up in poky rooms at the Hampton Inn near the Des Moines airport. In Las Vegas, where hotel rooms are generally cheaper than other cities (they're usually subsidized by the money casinos make off their patrons at the tables) the digs were slightly more upmarket. Some campaign staff stayed at the Flamingo on the strip, while others were put up at the quieter Vdara hotel with the senator and his family.

UT/TT Poll: Clinton Still Leads in Texas, But Margin Has Narrowed
Hillary Clinton’s lead over Bernie Sanders has narrowed considerably in Texas but remains in the double digits among the state’s likely Democratic primary voters, according to the latest University of Texas/Texas Tribune Poll.
The former secretary of state is leading, with 54 percent, a week before the Texas primary, while Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, has the support of 44 percent of the respondents.
Texas voters have six other choices on the Democratic presidential primary ballot: Martin O’Malley, Roque “Rocky” de la Fuente, Willie Wilson, Star Locke, Keith Judd and Calvis Hawes. None attracted significant support from the poll’s respondents.
“This race is narrowing, but not narrowing in a way for the lines to actually cross — especially in Texas,” said Jim Henson, director of the Texas Politics Project at UT-Austin and the poll’s co-director. Clinton will win, he said, but the question mark, is the state’s Hispanic voters and their relatively low propensity to vote. “This will be a double-digit race, but I don’t think it’s going to be a 20-point race.”

And remember, all states allot delegates proportionately. What Bernie needs to do is run ads using Hillary's own words about how we need to send unaccompanied children back to Central American violence to send a message.
