Putin rival Navalny speaks out in court

Navalny Calls Ukraine War ‘Distraction’ From Russia’s Problems

Jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny said Thursday he opposes President Vladimir Putin’s declaration of war against Ukraine, calling it a “distraction” from Russia’s economic stagnation and sociopolitical problems.

“I think this war is designed to divert attention from Russia’s problems, and it will only lead to greater impoverishment,” he added before being interrupted by the judge. “I consider those who unleashed this war to be bandits and thieves. I went into politics to fight this criminal regime of thieves.”

Can Romney get any respect for being right about Russia in Today's GOP?

He is poised to be the future leader if the Republicans want to re-enter American democracy. If not, he may wind up in a gulag.

"It's time to admit it: Mitt Romney was right about Russia"

“He’s trying to reestablish what he had before,” the Utah senator said."

Romney has at least occasionally stood up to tfg and Lil Tucker. Taking down Carlson seems imperative to defending democracy at home.

It's beautiful, clear, & cold. View of snowcapped San Bernardino Mountains

Editing to add that the highest peak in this pic is known as Mount Baldy. I always seem to forget that. I hope by sharing this info, I'll remember in the future. 🤪

Looking for distraction from terrifying world events. Storms overnight brought lots of snow in the mountains. And I love looking at them when they seem so close you could touch them. Just snapped with my Gslaxy s10.

Who is/are the Democratic outsider/s to run for president?

I don't see a clear frontrunner should Biden not run. And seeing how politicians and lawyers are viewed poorly, is there a great candidate we aren't thinking about?

Mainly, who comprise the future leaders of our party and the country? We're more than a social movement and civil rights defenders, which is how we are portrayed on the right. We govern so far superiorly than the right who seem today to only want constraints removed from white collar criminals. That and wanting everyone armed to the teeth.

I know there have to be many who would be great. Somebody not Michael Bloomberg or Mario Cuomo - the real outsider. Al Franken? Nah...

If North Carolina can block Cawthorn using the Constitution, why can't others do the same.

North Carolina elections board asserts power to bar Cawthorn from 2022 ballot

"The Civil War-era 14th Amendment to the Constitution has a provision that was intended at the time to bar Confederate traitors from Congress.

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State,” it reads, “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. ”

These flaming racists are trying to win the Civil War STILL!!

Ro Khana becoming a force of and for Nature.

Climate change
As chair of the House Oversight Subcommittee on the Environment, Khanna presided over the Big Oil hearing, bringing the CEOs of ExxonMobil, Chevron, Shell, and British Petroleum to appear before Congress under oath to answer for climate disinformation. The hearing took place on October 28, 2021. As late as 2000, Exxon advertised in the New York Times that "scientists have been unable to confirm" that burning fossil fuels causes climate change. The Big Oil hearings were the first time oil executives were compelled to answer questions under oath about whether their corporations misled the public about the effects burning oil, gas and coal have on raising the earth's temperature and extreme weather patterns like intensifying storms, deadlier wildfires, and worsening droughts. During the hearing, Khanna called on the Big Oil executives to "Spare us the spin today. We have no interest in it... Spin doesn't work under oath." In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Khanna described Big Oil's role in obfuscating climate science: "it's pretty simple. They knew, they lied. They continued to deceive. We will have scores of evidence that these big oil companies misrepresented to the American public the threat of climate change. They cast doubt and uncertainty, even though they had scientists in their own company telling them that climate change and climate crisis was going to be catastrophic. And that they continue to engage in a pattern of deception."

This topic needs its own forum.

Lesson from 1918 re: mask wearing.

675,000 Americans died of Spanish flu. We're nearing 900,000 American deaths with Covid-19.

Was it the same stubborn/libertarian/anti-government streak? Are we less healthy than 100 years ago? The result of conspiracy theories overriding science? Or something else?

Maybe we should have thrown certain anti-science types into a for profit prison...
