British Doctor Looses Tooth In OR Brawl

Consultant surgeon Jarrod Homer and consultant anaesthetist Kamran Abbas were seen "squaring up" to each other in a corridor at Manchester Royal Infirmary, according to the Manchester Evening News.

A nurse intervened in a bid to split them up - but ended up accidentally knocking out one of the doctor's teeth.

It is understood Dr Abbas, from Didsbury, and Mr Homer, from Mobberley in Cheshire, have been asked to stay at home while hospital chiefs investigate the incident.

A spokeswoman for Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manages the MRI, said: "This incident is the subject of an internal investigation and we are unable to comment further while this is under way."

Chris Christie Says Scooby Doo Was His Favorite Show At Age 4 But It Actually Wasn't

For nearly two years, mighty PolitiFact New Jersey has dogged Gov. Chris Christie on topics ranging from job growth to taxes to education reform.

But we’re putting those concerns aside for now to examine a topic of major significance: his favorite childhood cartoon.

The governor wore a broad grin at a recent town hall meeting in Branchburg as he and a 4-year-old audience member talked about their favorite cartoons. The boy told Christie he was a big Scooby Doo fan.

"When I was 4, my favorite show was Scooby Doo, too," Christie told the boy, who had told the governor that Scooby-Doo is his favorite.

Ah, once again there is scandal in Trenton.

Timing, it seems, isn’t everything.

The Internet Movie Database, which tracks movies, TV shows, celebrity news and more, states the TV show premiered on Sept. 13, 1969. The series aired until 1972 and followed the adventures of four teenagers and a dog named Scooby-Doo who traveled around in a van dubbed The Mystery Machine, solving various mysteries. <----

Dumb criminals: Romanian Burglary Suspect Calls Cops Because He's Afraid Of Another Burglar

A scaredy-cat burglar was arrested after he became frightened when he heard a strange noise and rang police from under a bed.

Marius Ionescu, 31, mistook the family cat for another burglar in the house in Benesti, Romania, causing him to head for cover and wait for the authorities to come and rescue him.

When the police turned up they did not discover anyone else in the house except for the burglar himself and promptly arrested him.

‘The noise he heard was probably just the family cat,’ said police spokesperson Mihaela Straub.

‘He already has a criminal record for similar break-ins, and given his nervous disposition, he probably should look for another job.

Bad Ass Of The Day: Guy Punches Alligator In Head Repeatedly To Save Son

A Florida man saved his six-year-old son on Friday by punching an alligator into submission after the beast clamped onto the child’s right arm.

The boy’s father, still reeling from the harrowing ordeal, told reporters he thinks it’s a “miracle” that not only does little Joey Welch still have his arm, it’s almost completely unharmed.

The child fell off a pier into shallow waters as his father, Joseph Welch, was preparing to take him canoeing in Boynton Beach. Without warning, a large gator latched onto Joey’s right arm.

“So I ran in to the water, it was about waist deep,” Welch told WSVN-TV. “I had my son like this here, because I didn’t want to play tug-of-war with the alligator and get his arm ripped off. So while I’m doing that I started punching the alligator on top of the head as hard as I could.”

4 Year Old Tantrum Throwing Girl Is World's Youngest To Recieve Treatment For Digital Addiction

'They can't cope and become addicted, reacting with tantrums and uncontrollable behaviour when they are taken away.'

Internet Addiction Disorder is set to be recognised by the NHS in a manual for GPs.

Childcare author Tanith Carey said: 'iPads, iPods and smartphones have become the new dummies for babies and toddlers.'

A recent parent survey revealed that more than half let their babies use a tablet or smartphone, while one in seven give them access for four or more hours every day.

Although 50 per cent of parents admit to buying their children digital devices, as many as 81 per cent think they spend too much time on them.

Many parents also confiscate their children's favourite electronic gadgets as a punishment - though more than half admit this approach has sparked a tantrum - branded an 'iPaddy'.

Are You An Expert In Druid Culture? Apply To Be General Manager Of Stonehenge.

The prehistoric stones of Stonehenge are to be cared for by a general manager for the first time.

English Heritage says it needs "a dynamic and inspirational leader" to look after the site in Wiltshire.

Duties for the £65,000-a-year job include leading the Wiltshire monument's 180 staff and volunteers and liaising with druid leaders.

Other responsibilities include overseeing arrangements for summer and winter solstices.

'Brightest and best'

English Heritage's Tim Reeve said it was "important to ensure we keep the dignity of the stones".

"You could be up at the stones one minute, in outdoor garb trying to help visitors, then you can be back in a state-of-the-art visitors' centre," he added.

"The next time you could be in a suit, representing our site."

He said it was also important to make sure "solstice celebrations aren't in some way compromising the mystery and integrity of the stones".

The True Cost Of Marijuana Prohibition: $20 Billion / Yr

NEW YORK -- Marijuana prohibition now costs state and federal government as much as $20 billion a year, an economist told The Huffington Post -- and legalization efforts are only just beginning to chip away at that.

That number comes from Jeffrey Miron, a senior lecturer at Harvard University who in 2010 studied the likely impacts of drug legalization, finding that about $8.7 billion would be saved on law enforcement and another $8.7 billion would be generated from taxes on marijuana. Accounting for inflation, that would add up to about $20 billion now, he said.

The number is modest in terms of the overall government budget -- but far too high a price to pay for a drug that does little to harm non-users, he argued.

As Miron acknowledges, his number is sort of a thought experiment, a suggestion of what would happen if marijuana was legalized on every level of government. Despite a recent Pew Research poll finding that 52 percent of Americans support marijuana legalization, politicians seem to only just now bewarming up to that proposition.

In Colorado and Washington, voters led the way in November referendums. But the rules and regulation around marijuana, which will be treated similarly to alcohol and tobacco under the states' laws, are only beginning to be hammered out.
