Thursday afternoon, Masoncup, now 70 and living in Geneva, recalled that summer decades ago and his memories of attending junior high and high school with Clinton, who was born in Chicago and grew up in Park Ridge. He described her as a "force of nature," someone who seemed to be more mature and more focused than an average high school student.

Masoncup and Clinton first met in junior high, though they went to different schools. They then spent three years at Maine East High School before Maine South opened in 1964, in time for their senior year. Masoncup and Clinton weren't in the same inner circle, but their social groups overlapped.

"She easily expressed herself as far as issues having to do with the school and the student body, and she was very friendly," Masoncup remembered. "She was a great kid to be around. She was funny, enjoyed herself. But also, she was serious."

Now, he said, he is shocked that one of his classmates could be subjected to such a level of vitriol as Clinton, he said. He admires the way she sticks it out.
"I think it's amazing in that she takes such a verbal beating," he said. "And I watch it and go, 'that's not who I know.' The way they've portrayed her is nothing like what I know."
In earlier press releases, did Trump overstate his July receipts by about $12 million?
Both Hillary and Trump announced their July fundraising a couple weeks ago, but the official FEC report wasn’t due till August 20.
And the official report shows that Trump, the RNC and super pacs took in about $68.3 million in July – not the $80 million his campaign previously reported to the media.

The Trump campaign said it and the Republican Party took in about $80 million, but it was unclear how much of that went to the Trump campaign itself. It said it had about $37 million on hand at the end of July.

The Republican presidential candidate raised $36.6 million in July, according to newly released filings to the Federal Election Committee. But that is $16 million less than his Democratic challenger for the month.
When fundraising by national parties and the super PACs backing the respective candidates are added to the total, team Clinton far outpaces team Trump.
The Democratic National Committee, Clinton and the super PAC backing Clinton, Priorities USA, raised a total of $94.5 million last month.
In comparison, the Republican National Committee, Trump and two super PACs backing Trump, brought in just two-thirds of the Democrats' total: $68.3 million in July.

Stephen Bannon, the Trump campaign’s new chief executive as of Wednesday, used the phrase two years ago in emails with Breitbart reporter Matt Boyle. Bannon ran Breitbart at the time, and the two schemed about how to get activists to “turn on the hate” as part of a plan to “burn this bitch down.” The emails, obtained by The Daily Beast, are just another reminder that the Trump campaign’s new management is unlikely to play nice with party leaders.
The exchange took place on Dec. 16, 2014. In it, Bannon flagged a Roll Call story about a private meeting Rep. Jason Chaffetz held for about a dozen Capitol Hill reporters. Chaffetz was about to become chairman of the powerful Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and the meeting previewed his plans for the committee.

“Leadership are all cunts,” he wrote. “We should just go buck wild.”
Then he wrote, “Let the grassroots turn on the hate because that’s the ONLY thing that will make them do their duty.”

Democratic billionaires are helping Hillary Clinton’s outside allies sustain a massive cash advantage over an array of super PACs backing Donald Trump, which are still struggling to match the financial arsenal on the left. . . .
The scenario is a dramatic flip from 2012, when Priorities initially struggled to persuade rich Democrats to support its efforts to reelect President Obama, while a super PAC supporting GOP nominee Mitt Romney vacuumed up cash.
Other Democratic super PACs are also benefiting from the largesse from liberal donors and labor unions this year. Sussman gave another $1 million in July to House Majority PAC, which works to elect Democratic congressional candidates, bringing his total contributions to that group to $3 million.
“In every election, politicians say, ‘This is the most important election of your lifetime.’ But this time, I actually believe that’s true,” he said, adding: “I am a Hillary Clinton fan, and I have been for quite some time. But this is much bigger than that. The House and Senate could be back in the control of Democrats, who will take the steps to do what is needed to put our government back on track.”

Hillary Clinton's campaign boosted its fundraising in July, building up its war chest even as it spent more money than the previous month, according to Federal Election Commission data released Saturday.
The committee for the Democratic presidential nominee ended the month with $58.5 million on hand, up from $44.4 million at the end of June. A report with the FEC showed "total receipts" of $52.3 million in July, up from $36.4 million in June.
In a separate statement, the Clinton campaign said it saw $62.3 million in total contributions for the month.
Clinton's campaign reported $38.2 million in disbursements for July, up from $34.5 million in June. For perspective, in July 2012, Mitt Romney's campaign reported $32.7 million in disbursements. President Barack Obama's committee said it spent $58.9 million.

The $58 million doesn't include money raised by super pacs.
Can anyone find information about the FEC report that Trump would have filed today? I looked but couldn't find it.It would be interesting to see how much he actually raised and where it's going (not much to field offices or to TV ads, compared to Hillary).

Poll: Clinton Maintains Big Lead as Voters Doubt Trump's Temperament

Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 9 points — 50 percent to 41 percent — in the latest NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll.
The numbers were virtually unchanged since last week's poll. Generally low favorability and negative attitudes among voters plague both candidates, however, as they make appeals to voters in key swing states in the weeks ahead.
A majority of voters continue to hold unfavorable impressions of both current nominees; Clinton's negative feelings were held by slightly less voters (59 percent) than Trump (64 percent). These results are according to the latest from the NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll conducted online from August 8 through August 14, 2016 among registered voters.
Clinton continues her lead over the field in a four-way general election match-up with 43 percent against Trump (37 percent), Libertarian Gary Johnson (11 percent) and Green party candidate Jill Stein (4 percent).
