about his decision (and it was his) to have the convention in Florida during hurricane season. Something tells me he's sick of hearing their complaints and whining and just told them to chill. I am so enjoying their discomfort and annoyance and rotten hair days, aren't you?

Report: Christie wouldn't resign to run as VP, had doubts about Romney's chances

Gov. Chris Christie would not resign as governor to run as Mitt Romney's running mate because he was skeptical that Romney could win, according to a front-page story in the New York Post this morning.

The Post reports Christie thought Romney damaged his campaign by only releasing limited tax returns and committing several gaffes during a tour abroad in July.

Christie would have had to step down because of laws trying to prevent pay-to-play. If Christie was on the ticket, the laws would have banned some companies from contributing to Romney's campaign because they have contracts with New Jersey.

Regardless, Christie was chosen to deliver the keynote address at the convention tomorrow.

GOP convention briefs: Lynyrd Skynyrd concert off as RNC tent comes down

TAMPA —

As quickly as crews set up a massive tent city for Republican National Convention concerts and VIPs, they started tearing down much of it Sunday afternoon as Tropical Storm Isaac neared the Gulf of Mexico.

Already, the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert Sunday night was canceled, and others might be, depending on the conditions.

“The main tent can withstand 90-mph winds, but we want everyone to be safe,” said Rob Jennings, president of American Event Consulting, which built a massive entertainment village near the convention site at the Tampa Bay Times Forum for concerts with Kid Rock, Journey and others.

Other concerts and events are still on track for the pavilion, Jennings said.

Neil Armstrong's Death Draws Limited Television Coverage

NEW YORK — By the yardstick of history, Neil Armstrong was among the most accomplished men ever to walk on the planet that he looked upon from afar one magical week in July 1969.

Television news didn't seem to fully recognize the importance of the first human to walk on the moon on the weekend he died.

In the hours after Armstrong's death was announced, news networks were airing canned programming – jailhouse documentaries, a rerun interview with Rielle Hunter, Mike Huckabee's weekend show. Menacing satellite pictures of Tropical Storm Isaac had much more air time than Armstrong's dusty hops on the lunar surface. Talk of the upcoming GOP national convention sucked up the air.

A trio of factors played in to the lack of attention.

First, Armstrong died on a Saturday. Not just any Saturday, when news organizations have a skeletal staff, but a late August weekend. Half the country is at the beach. It's not a stretch to think inexperience on duty might have played a role in NBC News' embarrassing gaffe: a website headline that read: "Astronaut Neil Young, first man to walk on the moon, dies at age 82." (NBC called it a staffer error and said the mistake was taken down after seven minutes.)

and usually go to HuffPo and read Jason Linkins' take on these shows. I don't see his coverage over there today and was just wondering if anyone said anything of vital importance and if any unbiased discussions took place...Bwahahaha..

'2016: Obama's America': What the Critics Are Saying

Washington Post critic Michael O’Sullivan panned the documentary as “a slick infomercial," writing: “D'Souza’s one-sided argument ultimately stoops to fear-mongering of the worst kind, stating in no uncertain terms that, if the president is reelected, the world four years from now will be darkened by the clouds of economic collapse, World War III (thanks to the wholesale renunciation of our nuclear superiority) and a terrifyingly ascendant new ‘United States of Islam’ in the Middle East. These assertions are accompanied by footage of actual dark clouds and horror-movie music.”

New York Times reviewer Andy Webster noted that while plenty of Obama-haters were consulted for the film, “Not interviewed by the filmmakers are Obama’s political supporters, but this isn’t that kind of documentary.”

Slate reviewer David Weigel found the premise of the film, in which D’Souza is a crusader for the truth, rather disingenuous. “D’Souza is sold to us as a smart, patriotic innocent abroad, who just wants to piece a mystery together. Almost every clue fits the puzzle.”

He goes on to note that the co-director leaves out key details to make things look worse than they are. "This is a movie, sure, and you can’t lard it up with every little detail, but D’Souza’s question-begging and omissions lead him to oversell what he’s got."

Neil Armstrong Dies as Networks Differ in Breaking Coverage

MSNBC broke into documentary programming about the 1992 Los Angeles riots; Brian Williams and Lester Holt discussed the death, before Mark Kelly, a retired astronaut and husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords, called into the special report.

Fox News was next to break into programming, interrupting Stossel and speaking with former astronaut Tom Jones.

CNN took 40 minutes to break into coverage of the death; they stayed with personal finance coverage, and then segments on Hurricane Isaac and Mitt Romney's speech in Michigan earlier this week. They had PBS News Hour Science Correspondent Miles O'Brien on the air to discuss Armstrong's legacy.

ABC News ran a special report at about 3:30 EST, anchored by David Muir.

Anti-Obama Doc Bests Other New Films

Box Office Shocker: Anti-Obama Doc Bests Other New Films on Friday becoming the top-grossing documentary of the year, "2016: Obama's America" earns $2.2 million for the day to outpace "Premium Rush," "Hit & Run" and "The Apparition."

Dinesh D’Souza and John Sullivan’s conservative documentary 2016: Obama's America expanded nationwide Friday to pleasing results, grossing $2.2 million to place No. 4 overall behind a trio of holdovers. Obama's America came in ahead of three other new films opening at the domestic office: Premium Rush, which earned $2 million to come in only No. 8 for the day; offbeat indie comedy Hit & Run, which placed No. 10 with $1.4 million; and Dark Castle's supernatural thriller The Apparition, which grossed $1.2 million to rank 12th.


The anti-Barack Obama film is now the top-grossing documentary of the year (excluding nature docs), besting the $3.5 million earned by Bully.
