Matt Taibbi, Eliot Spitzer on Eric Holder's Failure

Rolling Stone's Matt Taibbi talked with Eliot Spitzer last night about Eric Holder's decision not to prosecute Goldman Sachs for the offenses laid out in the Levin report.

Taibbi had this to say afterwards:

"But that's exactly who Eric Holder and Lanny Breuer haven't been, exactly who Bob Khuzami at the SEC hasn't been. Instead of being fighters, they've been deal-makers and plea-bargainers. They've dealt out every major financial scandal, from Abacus to the Muni-bid-rigging cases (they prosecuted a few low-level guys at GE but let the big players at the big banks skate) to the Citigroup fraud settlement that was so bad a judge threw it back at the government's face. In that latter case, amazingly, the government is now fighting not for its constituents, but for its right to give out crappy deals to repeat-offender banks without judicial review."

Mitt Romney Tweaks John Boehner, Talks About Emotions, Crying

<snip>

Boehner has become the poster boy for Washington waterworks. His sensitive nature and habit of crying in public during powerful moments have provided plenty of fodder for late night television. Boehner's predecessor, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), has even taken aim in the past.

"He is known to cry," she said of Boehner in an interview with the New York Times. "He cries sometimes when we're having a debate on bills."

As for Romney, it's possible to show emotions -- and even cry -- without being on Boehner's level.

Asked about Romney's disposition last month, his wife Ann said that he was "very" emotional. Things such as movies, books and even the "hymns" Mitt speaks about so fondly, could bring a "tear to his eye," she said.

News you just don't see or hear every day...

The Associated Press

MOSCOW —

Russian investigators say a woman in East Siberia has strangled an elderly neighbor to death with her bra.

The Investigative Committee in Buryatia said in a statement on Tuesday that the 26-year-old woman from the town of Zakamensk, just miles north off the border with Mongolia, has been charged with murder.

Investigators say the woman was drunk on a July evening when she and her boyfriend called on their 65-year-old neighbor for money to buy drinks. Angry that he refused to lend them money, the woman punched him in the face and tried to strangle him with her hands, before taking off her bra and strangling him with it, they say.

The woman is now in custody awaiting the end of the probe, investigators say. Her name was not released.

Obama is attending three basketball-themed cash grabs in and around Lincoln Center

President Obama is heading back to New York City Wednesday to shoot some hoops — and net some serious dough — at a trifecta of basketball-themed fundraisers.

Chicago may be Obama’s hometown, but Manhattan has been the President’s home court for raising campaign cash.

Obama’s latest trip to the political ATM that is the Big Apple will feature cash grabs — more like cash dunks — hosted by NBA immortal Michael Jordan and other current and former hardcourt stars. The events are expected to sink at least $3 million into the President’s campaign kitty.

The “Obama Classic” will take place in and around Lincoln Center and includes a $250 per-person autograph signing event, a $5,000-per-player skills camp and shoot-around, and a $20,000 per-plate dinner co-hosted by Jordan for 120 paying guests.

I knew Akin reminded me of someone and Cal Coolidge it is. I truly mean they could have

been related or cloned. Unfortunately I don't know how to post photos here but went to Google and could hardly tell the difference between the two. I doubt they're related but still....

Phyllis Diller Dead at 95

Legendary comedienne Phyllis Diller, who blazed a trail for a generation of female comics with her revealing, self-deprecating stand-up routines, has died at age 95, according to TMZ. (The Associated Press and The Hollywood Reporter have since confirmed.)

Diller had been suffering health problems as of late: She recently hurt her hip and wrist in a fall and has been living under hospice care at her Los Angeles home. She passed away there this morning, surrounded by family. Diller's longtime manager, Milton Suchin, told The Associated Press, "She died peacefully in her sleep and with a smile on her face."

The funny lady, known for her wild hair and distinctive laugh, often poked fun at her less-than-glamorous looks: She started out in 1952 filming a local TV special entitled "Phyllis Diller: The Homely Friendmaker." She rose to fame with a series of TV specials alongside Bob Hope in the 1960s and later starred in several TV shows based around her act ("The Phyllis Diller Show," "The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show&quot ; she also frequently appeared on the seminal '60s variety show "Laugh-In."

16 women arrested in Tampa prostitution sting before Republican National Convention

http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/news/national-govt-politics/16-women-arrested-in-tampa-prostitution-sting-befo/nRFLY/

Palm Beach Post Capital Bureau

TAMPA —

Police are sweeping strip clubs on the hunt for hookers as the city cleans up its act before the Republican National Convention.

Police arrested 16 women at adult entertainment venues during “Operation Keep It Clean” on Thursday and Friday nights. The women were charged with offering to commit prostitution, the Tampa Police Department said.

Prostitutes and strippers have flooded into Tampa — notorious for its adult entertainment hot spots — hoping to cash in on an expected 50,000 visitors. Stripper Lisa Ann, a Sarah Palin look-alike known as “Nailin’ Palin,” will appear at one club for two nights just before the convention begins.

Undercover officers visited a dozen clubs while looking for prostitution and human sex trafficking. Officials said they launched the sweep after getting reports that prostitutes may be coming to work in the clubs during the convention. Authorities said they will continue the operation before, during and after the four-day event.
