Helena Bonham Carter joins campaign to protect fish.

For a woman who readily admits to being afraid of fish, a giant tuna seems to be the most unlikely of Valentine's dates.

However, Helena Bonham Carter overcome her phobia to pose naked with this magnificent specimen in support of the Blue Marine Foundation, which is campaigning for marine reserves to protect endangered species around the world.

The 48-year-old actress, who split from director Tim Burton last December, was persuaded to undertake the project by her friend Greta Scacchi.

Vietnamese refuge who developed Sriracha didn't trademark the name

With no trademark, Sriracha name is showing up everywhere

Wander down almost any supermarket aisle and it's easy to spot one of the food industry's hottest fads. Sriracha, the fiery red Asian chili sauce, has catapulted from a cult hit to flavor du jour, infusing burgers, potato chips, candy, vodka and even lip balm.

That would seem like a boon for the man who made the sauce a household name. Except for one glaring omission.

David Tran, a Vietnamese refugee who built the pepper empire from nothing, never trademarked the term, opening the door for others to develop their own sauce or seasoning and call it Sriracha.

That's given some of the biggest names in the food business such as Heinz, Frito-Lay, Subway and Jack in the Box license to bank off the popularity of a condiment once named Bon Appétit magazine's ingredient of the year.

Restaurant chains and candy and snack makers aren't buying truckloads of Tran's green-capped condiment emblazoned with the rooster logo. Nor are they paying Tran a dime in royalties to use the word "Sriracha" (pronounced "see-RAH-cha".

"In my mind, it's a major misstep," said Steve Stallman, president of Stallman Marketing, a food business consultancy. "Getting a trademark is a fundamental thing."

Puerto Rico considers plan to fine parents of obese children. 30% are obese

Legislators in Puerto Rico are debating a bill that would fine parents of obese children up to $800 if they don’t lose weight.

The bill aims to improve children’s wellbeing and help parents make healthier choices, senator Gilberto Rodriguez said in a statement issued Monday.

Public hearings for the bill are scheduled to begin on Friday.

If approved, public school teachers would flag potential obesity cases and refer them to a counselor or social worker, depending on the severity of the case. Health department officials would then meet with the parents and determine whether the obesity is a result of bad eating habits or a medical condition. They also would create a diet-and-exercise program combined with monthly visits to ensure it’s being followed.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's new staffer has resigned after reports shed light on his past inflammatory remarks.

"While Ethan has apologized for regrettable and insensitive comments, they do not reflect the views of Governor Bush or his organization and it is appropriate for him to step aside. We wish him the best."

A British man battered a German diner to death after busting him filming his young daughter on his iPad in a Spanish restaurant, police said.

Kainth Devinder, 40, allegedly attacked Sandro Rottman, 43, after spotting him recording his little girl at the upmarket port of Sotogrande's Spinnaker eatery early Sunday, according to The Local.

The German had been arrested just days earlier for alleged possession of child porn, according to reports.

"The girl's father got up and went to the table where the victim was," a Civil Guard source told AFP.

"He took the tablet off him, saw that there were recordings of his daughter, and that was when the attack took place," he added.

Wisconsin Firefighters Return to Shovel Snow at Home of Hospitalized Man

A crew of Wisconsin firefighters is receiving praise from around the country after a photo of them shoveling a snowy driveway has gone viral.

The four firefighters, all members of the Greenfield, Wisconsin, Fire Department, were photographed on Sunday removing snow off the driveway of a man they had just taken to the hospital.

The man, who was not identified, had been shoveling the snow outside his home himself after a nearly 24-hour snowstorm when he began to not feel well, Greenfield Fire Chief Jon Cohn told ABC News.

When firefighters arrived at the man’s house, they found him in a cardiac emergency and rushed him to the hospital.

“At some point at the hospital, somebody said, ‘We should go back and finish shoveling that driveway so the family has one less thing to worry about,’” Cohn said.

Janitor who lived modestly leaves millions in surprise donations

A man who sometimes held his coat together with safety pins and had a long-time habit of foraging for firewood also had a knack for picking stocks — a talent that became public after his death when he bequeathed $6 million to his local library and hospital.

The investments made by Ronald Read, a former gas station employee and janitor who died in June at age 92, "grew substantially" over the years, said his attorney Laurie Rowell.

Read, who was known for his flannel shirt and baseball cap, gave no hint of the size of his fortune.

"He was unbelievably frugal," Rowell said Wednesday. When Read visited her office, "sometimes he parked so far away so he wouldn't have to pay the meter."

The bequest of $4.8 million to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and $1.2 million to the town's Brooks Memorial Library were the largest each institution has ever received. Read also made a number of smaller bequests.
