Social media slams singer Michael Bublé for eating corn on the cob the wrong way

http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/celebrities/article/Singer-Michael-Buble-doesn-t-know-how-to-eat-7250999.php
Singer Michael Bublé has shown his true colors after a photo surfaced online of him eating corn on the cob as if it were a banana.

The “Everything” singer was reportedly on a trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on Wednesday when he showed his uneducated ways.

The photo quickly became trending on Facebook and other social media, and people were promptly making memes and viral posts about the hilarious photo. The fact that it was trending on Facebook with the line “Michael Bublé: Photo Surface of Singer Eating Corn,” gave me a laugh.

120lb Great Dane rescued from tree in Nebraska

http://www.oregonlive.com/pets/index.ssf/2016/04/120lb_great_dane_rescued_from.html

When Kora, the 120-pound Great Dane, was nowhere to be found last week, her owner searched the house and yard, but not the sky. The dog had somehow got stuck about 20 feet up in a tree in the backyard. The Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department was called to help out in this very unusual situation. Cats? Sure, but rare to see a large dog stuck in a tree.

The rescue crews were able to get a harness and long lead on the dog, and also held a tarp under her just in case. As the dog was being lowered down she dropped into the tarp and walked away without a worryhttp://twitter.com/LisaGinKC/status/720605720605896709/photo/1

"I really like what Trump is saying."

When last we saw Doug Harding, he had just gone from long-term homeless person to apartment-dweller. Harding was so unaccustomed to housing that at first he pitched his tent in the bedroom and dragged the mattress in there.

The tent is now packed away in a closet.

"I kept it up for about a week and a half," he says.

Harding, 57, spent nearly three decades as a hobo nicknamed "Boy Scout," hopping freight trains and living in a tent. But in January, the Weber Housing Authority — working with the Cooperative Agreement to Benefit Homeless Individuals — helped get Harding into an apartment using something called Shelter Plus Care, a state program for the chronically homeless with disabilities. Harding's disability relates to a substance abuse problem.

Now nearly two months later, Harding is still successfully housed in the Highland Apartments. He admits it's taken some time getting used to.

-----
Eventually, Harding hopes his transition to upstanding member of the community includes finding an old GMC pickup truck — with a trailer — and running his own lawn-care business. But first? He's looking to exercise his civic duty for the first time in a very long time.

"I need to register to vote," Harding says. "I really like what Trump is saying."

Guy driving in parking lane cutting off cars, gets instant karma

Uploaded March 29 by xSupaD, who describes himself as “just another driver from BC, Canada who likes to share their dashcam videos,” the one-minute-and-55-second clip (tinyurl.com/RoadKarma) shows the adventures of a Honda Civic as it drives in a parking lane, cuts off a vehicle when some parked cars get in the way, and then slides back into the parking lane and continues down the road.

At a red light, xSupaD catches up to the Honda Civic, and soon after red and blue lights can be seen reflecting off the body of another stopped car. It turns out the Civic has been pulled over by a Vancouver Police Department cruiser who has pulled up behind it, prompting the Civic’s driver to rage at xSupaD, who turned the dashcam sideways to show the police vehicle, and then records the upset Civic driver gesturing and shouting angrily out his window at him.

Worried about your teenage daughter? Move to the Netherlands

Yet, even when controlling for all that, the difference holds. Consider a study comparing the early sexual experiences of 400 randomly chosen American and Dutch women at two similar colleges — nearly all white, all middle class, with similar religious backgrounds. So, apples to apples.

The American girls had become sexually active at a younger age than the Dutch, had had more encounters with more partners and were less likely to use birth control. They were more likely to say they'd had first intercourse because of “opportunity” or pressure from friends or partners.

In subsequent interviews with some of the participants, the Americans described interactions that were “driven by hormones,” in which boys determined relationships, male pleasure was prioritized and reciprocity was rare.

As for the Dutch girls, their early sexual activity took place in loving, respectful relationships in which they communicated openly with their partners (whom they said they knew “very well”) about what felt good and what didn't, about how “far” they wanted to go, and about what kind of protection they would need along the way. They reported more comfort with their bodies and their desires than the Americans and were more in touch with their own pleasure.

Here's their secret: The Dutch girls said that teachers and doctors had talked candidly to them about sex, pleasure and the importance of a loving relationship. More than that, though, there was a stark difference in how their parents approached those topics. The American girls' moms had focused on the potential risks and dangers of sex, while their dads, if they said anything at all, stuck to lame jokes. Dutch parents, by contrast, had talked to their daughters from an early age about both the joys and responsibilities of intimacy. As a result, one Dutch girl said she told her mother immediately after her first intercourse, “because we talk very open[ly] about this. My friend's mother also asked me how it was, if I had an orgasm and if he had one.”

The attitudes of the two nations weren't always so far apart. According to Amy Schalet, an associate professor of sociology at the University of Massachusetts, in the late 1960s the Dutch — like Americans — roundly disapproved of premarital sex. The sexual revolution transformed attitudes in both countries, but, whereas American parents and policymakers responded by treating teen sex as a health crisis, the Dutch went another way: They consciously embraced it as natural, though requiring proper guidance. Their government made pelvic exams, birth control and abortion free to anyone under 22, with no requirements for parental consent.

Prank callers convince employees to smash all the windows to prevent gas explosion

Video of window smashing

Police said employees at the restaurant in the Minneapolis suburb of Coon Rapids got the call Friday night from someone claiming to be with the fire department. The caller said the restaurant could explode, so they needed to relieve the pressure. The manager and other employees believed the caller and smashed all the windows on the ground floor.

"Officers arrived and found that the manager and employees of the Burger King were smashing out the windows," Sgt. Rick Boone told the Star Tribune. "The manager explained they'd received a phone call from a male who identified himself as a fireman who said there were dangerous levels of gas in the building and they had to break out all the windows to keep the building from blowing up."

Boone said there was no immediate cost estimate for the damage. The restaurant was boarded up Saturday, and investigators were trying to identify the caller.

Someone placed a similar call to a Burger King in Shawnee, Oklahoma, on Thursday night, claiming there were high levels of carbon monoxide in the building. KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City reported that the window damage there was estimated at $10,000.

"It is a little upsetting that they would try to give the fire department a black eye," Thomas Larman, of the Shawnee Fire Department, told the station. "We would never do anything like that. We're here to serve the public, protect the public."

A similar call to Burger King in Morro Bay, California, about a purported gas leak in early February resulted in $35,000 in damage. Not only did employees smash the windows, but a manager went as far as ramming his car into building. And police in Tucson, Arizona, say several similar prank calls were placed to Jack in the Box restaurants there in early February, fooling workers at one store. A similar incident happened at a Wendy's in Phoenix in late January.

Dog loses half his weight

Fat Vincent was 38 pounds when he was surrendered to a county animal shelter eight months ago, depressed after the death of his owner.

The extra weight was already bringing down the 7-year-old. He had high cholesterol, could barely walk and was at risk for nerve damage due to a dip in his back from the additional pounds.

Vincent now walks about an hour five to six times a week and looks so forward to them he waits by the door after breakfast every morning, Anderson said.

Now the hard-working pup is nearly a pound away from his goal weight, clocking in the health cholesterol range and has a whole new attitude.

'He is the sweetest, funniest, happiest guy now,' Anderson said.

And soon he'll be on his way to a forever home, one that Anderson said will continue taking him on daily walks and monitoring food.

'Most important,' she said, 'is having lots of love to give!'

And potentially a new name.

California is now allowing women to get birth control pills without a doctor's prescription

Officials announced Friday that women in California can now drop by their neighborhood pharmacy and pick up birth control pills without a prescription from a doctor. It's not technically over-the-counter, but you can get them by talking to a pharmacist and filling out a questionnaire.

The new option is intended to increase access to birth control and reduce unintended pregnancies. State legislators originally passed the law in 2013 but it was held up in regulatory discussions until Friday.

California becomes the third state after Oregon and Washington to allow women to obtain more types of birth control directly from a pharmacist.

"Nobody likes being around poor people, especially poor people." Says casino ceo Steve Wynn

Casino owner Steve Wynn seems to have crapped out with some recent comments he made about the poor.

Wynn, the CEO of Wynn Resorts (WYNN), said during his company's investor day presentation late Wednesday that wealthy gamblers who come to his high-end casinos don't want the less fortunate hanging around with them.

"Rich people only like being around rich people," he said. "Nobody likes being around poor people, especially poor people." Wynn added that he was trying to make his company like a Chanel or Louis Vuitton of the gambling world.

Wynn Resorts was not immediately available for further comment about Steve Wynn's remarks.

But Wynn is notoriously outspoken and no stranger to controversy. A Democrat, Wynn told investors during a conference call in 2011 that the Obama administration is "the greatest wet blanket to business, progress and job creation" in his lifetime.
