Oscar nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal was left speechless when a casting boss recently told her she was “too old” to play the onscreen love interest of a 55-year-old man.
The 37-year-old The Dark Knight star’s experience of ageism in Hollywood initially left her fuming, but she couldn’t help but laugh once she had time to digest the executive’s remark.
The actress refuses to name the man behind the comment or the project he ruled her out of, but she tells TheWrap.com, “There are things that are really disappointing about being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the time… It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh.”
Despite the negative incident, Gyllenhaal remains hopeful she will continue to receive opportunities to play strong women on film.

university golfers arrested. took explicit photos of drunk woman
Two University of Arkansas golfers face felony voyeurism charges for allegedly snapping sexually explicit photos of a drunk woman.
Taylor Moore and Nicolas Echavarria were arrested Wednesday after they admitted to taking the explict pictures inside Moore’s Fayetteville home on April 11, police said.
The victim said she ran into Moore and Echavarria — both of whom she knew before the alleged attack — while she was out at a bar that night. She was too drunk to drive home, so the two offered to let her sleep over at Moore's place, according to a police report obtained by KNWA.
When the three got to the home, Moore gave the woman a shirt to sleep in and carried her to his bedroom, she told police.
While fading in and out of consciousness, she remembered seeing bright flashes and suspected the men were taking photos of her — prompting her to call the cops later. She never gave the men consent, she said.

The pastry shop in Sicily misheard the nine-year-old's parents when they ordered the cake and when it arrived, she was left devastated
A nine-year-old Italian girl who asked for a My Little Pony birthday cake was devastated when it arrived bearing the likeness of an Italian crooner from the 1960s called Little Tony.
The mix-up over the similar-sounding names happened when the pastry shop in the town of Gangi, Sicily, that was asked to bake the cake misheard her parents when they placed their order.
Instead of a bright pink pony with an electric blue mane, the little girl, named Evelina, got a cake adorned with the bouffant-haired singer in a sparkly white jacket.
Little Tony, whose real name was Antonio Ciacci, was Italy's answer to Cliff Richard and modelled himself on Elvis.
His stage name was inspired by Little Richard.
Josh Duggar apologizes amid molestation allegations: ‘I acted inexcusably’
In the wake of a tabloid report alleging that he molested several underage girls while he was a teenager, reality-television star Josh Duggar said Thursday that he “acted inexcusably” and was “deeply sorry” for what he called “my wrongdoing.”
The 27-year-old Duggar, a member of the family that stars on TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting,” also resigned his post with the Family Research Council.
In a statement posted on Facebook, Duggar said:
Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life.
On Thursday, In Touch Weekly published a partially redacted police report from the Springdale Police Department in Arkansas that, the tabloid said, contained details of the allegations against Duggar. The report redacted the name of the suspect and the alleged victims, all juveniles, but listed Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar as relatives.
Josh Duggar is the oldest child in the family that stars in the popular TLC show, “19 Kids and Counting.” Duggar, his wife Anna and their three children live in Washington, where Duggar worked as executive director of FRC Action, the non-profit lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

Other bombshells in the police report are: Josh Duggar was investigated for multiple sex offenses — including forcible fondling — against five minors. Some of the alleged offenses investigated were felonies. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were interview by the Springdale Police department on Dec. 12, 2006. The report says that James told police he was alerted in March, 2002 by a female minor that Josh — who turned 14-years-old that month — had been touching her breasts and genitals while she slept. This allegedly happened on multiple occasions. In 2006, Jim Bob told police that in July, 2002 Josh admitted to fondling a minor’s breasts while she slept. “James said that they disciplined (redacted, Josh) after this incident.” The family did not alert authorities

California mom leaves food, bedtime instructions for 4-year-old; goes out with friends for 7 hrs
California mom abandoned her 4-year-old daughter at home for at least seven hours while she went out with friends, authorities said.
Bing Chen, 28, later told police the girl was fine because she’d left food and instructions telling her when to eat and go to bed, cops said. 
Neighbors told investigators they’d heard a child crying since about 3 p.m. on Monday and finally called the manager of the Rancho Cucamonga apartment complex about 8:25 p.m.
A San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputy responded and found the girl alone. The child’s father was in Taiwan on business and told investigators the mother was supposed to be watching the toddler, cops said.

Anti-gay Michigan pastor resigns after being caught chatting on Grindr
Michigan pastor who once rallied against same-sex marriage was caught soliciting sex on a gay hook-up app.
Matthew Makela, an associate pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church and School in Midland, resigned after he was busted chatting on Grindr — where he told other men he was a “bicurious guy” who “loved making out naked.”
Gay news site Queerty obtained screenshots of the conversation, which showed Makela sending multiple photos of himself to other men. The married father of two confirmed the authenticity of the screenshots to Queerty, but would not offer further comment.
Makela stepped down after the article went public, the Midland Daily News reported.
“Pastor (Makela) has acknowledged that there was sin and repentance, and I have testified that there is indeed forgiveness through the same Lord who forgives all our sins,” Senior Pastor Rev. Daniel Kempin said.

Oakland police gave jay walking ticket to journalist taking photographs of cops. city pays him $9500
Oakland settles with journalist for $9,500 over jaywalking ticket
The city of Oakland has agreed to pay $9,500 to an independent journalist known for documenting police misconduct who filed a lawsuit accusing officers of wrongfully detaining him and writing him a jaywalking ticket to deter him from his work.
The city agreed in closed session on Tuesday to settle the lawsuit filed by videographer Jacob Crawford, the founder of wecopwatch.org.
Crawford said he was given a “groundless” citation on July 19, 2013, for jaywalking on the 500 block of 14th Street after he took photos of Oakland police monitoring demonstrators at a downtown rally who were protesting the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. He had also asked for the officers’ names, Crawford said.
Sgt. Darrin Downum told Officer Melissa Baddie to write Crawford the citation, said the suit filed by attorney Rachel Lederman. Crawford was handcuffed for several minutes, the suit said, and the ticket was eventually dismissed in traffic court.

Woman says she killed cats because grandchildren wouldn’t clean rooms, arrested

A kitten-killing grandmother is behind bars in Madison County. Investigators say the Godfrey woman killed her granddaughter’s cat and four kittens with a hammer, to teach her grand kids a lesson. The animal abuse was discovered at the family’s home on the 5000-block of West Victor Drive.
On Monday evening, the 13 year-old granddaughter opened the freezer, looking for a snack, and made a nauseating discovery. There was her beloved cat, dead inside the freezer. The girl texted a relative, who called police.
Madison County investigators arrived, and asked the girl what happened. Her grandma immediately piped in. Seventy-one year-old Josephine Bell said she killed the cat, and its four kittens, all because the kids wouldn’t clean their rooms.
The 71 year-old is now charged with Aggravated Animal Cruelty, and could face 1 to 3 years in prison.
Captain Mike Dixon with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department says, “Without a substantial criminal history, she likely could be looking at probation and fines for this case. But hopefully it brings about a change in demeanor, and this kind of behavior doesn’t happen again for the benefit of these children, is what ultimately I think most of us would hope for.”
