McDonald's new takeout bag looks exactly like one a college student designed 2 years ago

McDonald's new takeout bag looks exactly like one a college student designed 2 years ago

Now here's the one designed by graduate student Seulbi Kim at the Rhode Island School Of Design two years ago:

The similarities are striking.

Seulbi Kim designed the package for a class project, Business Insider's Ashley Lutz reported in 2013.

Kim said McDonald's never contacted her regarding the bag she designed.

"It’s cool to have my design out in the real market but also not really cool to have it copied without my permission," she said.

We reached out to McDonald's and will update when we hear back.

Squatting in skinny jeans can lead to nerve damage, study finds

In a report in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, a team of doctors relay the cautionary tale of a 35-year-old woman who wound up lying prone on the pavement, unable to get up, after spending the day in skinny jeans while helping a relative move.

The anonymous woman recalled that her jeans seemed a bit snug when she pulled them on in the morning, said Thomas Kinder, of the Neurology Unit at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia who lead the study. However, it was only after she spent hours squatting while emptying cupboards that she noticed her legs were feeling increasingly tight and uncomfortable.

When she was walking home later that evening the woman found that she could no longer move her feet properly, causing her to trip and fall. She spent several hours on the ground before she was discovered and brought to the hospital, according to the report.

By the time the doctors saw the patient, both her legs were so swollen below the knee that the medical team had to cut the jeans off her. She also had severe weakness in her feet and ankles and was not able to walk. Kinder said she was treated with intravenous fluids, but it still took four days for her to use her legs normally again.

Texas Oil Exec Stops His Car to Punch a Gay Pedestrian Unconscious
Anthony Fera, the president of Houston’s MidStar Energy LP, has been charged with assault.

A Texas oil executive swore at a gay couple he passed in his vehicle, stopped his car in a lane of traffic, got out, and proceeded to knock a man unconscious, the Dallas Voice reports.

Anthony Fera, the president of Houston’s MidStar Energy LP, has been charged with assault.

In April, Andy Smith and Paul von Wupperfeld, who are married, were walking in Austin when, the couple says, Fera drove by and almost mowed them over.

“I hollered out, ‘you nearly hit us.'” Smith writes in his statement to police. Fera reportedly replied, ‘Fuck you faggot.’” Smith and Fera exchanged a few more words before Fera exited his car, punched Smith in the head, ran back, and resumed driving.

-------
After brutally assaulting Smith, Von Wupperfeld reported, Fera ran to his vehicle and drove off. By the time von Wupperfeld reached Smith, he told police, Smith’s “face was swollen and bloody from where he had been punched, with cuts on his nose, right cheek and chin. He was unconscious for around 30-45 seconds. When he regained consciousness, he was groggy and disoriented.” Smith suffered “a fractured nose, a black eye, lacerations, scrapes, and a shoulder injury,” according to the Gay Star News.

Several witnesses saw the assault and recorded the incident with their phones. Pictures taken at the scene included the license plate number on the pickup driven by Fera, who attacked Smith, allowing police to trace the truck.

“I’m very grateful to the Austin Police Department and the many witnesses who stepped forward and offered help,” Smith told the Dallas News. “I’ve received a lot of support and love from my family and friends.”

Fera is best known as the father of University of Texas Longhorn football team’s 2013 star placekicker Anthony Fera. It should be noted that Tony Fera Sr. has been arrested several other times in Texas and Pennsylvania.

Rush Limbaugh’s Downward Spiral Continues: Another Demotion, Another Step Toward Irrelevancy

Rush Limbaugh’s Downward Spiral Continues: Another Demotion, Another Step Toward Irrelevancy
Stations are dropping the conservative firebrand with amazing frequency.

The good news for Rush Limbaugh: One month after being notified he was getting dumped by his Boston talk radio host station, the talker has a new AM home in the city.

The bad news: The station currently boasts a 0.6 rating, trails four non-commercial stations in the market, and becomes yet another big-city, cellar-dwelling outpost that Limbaugh is forced to call home.

The station, WKOX, is the type of “bottom-rung” affiliate that Limbaugh was rarely associated with during his halcyon days as the king of talk radio. But those days seem to be dwindling as the Boston fall from grace has previously played out for Limbaugh in places like Los Angeles and Indianapolis. In each instance, Limbaugh exited a prosperous, longtime radio home and was forced to settle for an also-ran outlet with miniscule ratings.

Limbaugh’s ongoing major market woes can be traced to his 2012 on-air meltdown over Sandra Fluke, where he castigated and insulted the graduate student for three days on his program, calling her a “slut” and suggesting she post videos of herself having sex on the Internet. (Fluke’s sin in the eyes of Limbaugh was testifying before Congress in favor of contraception mandates for health care insurance.)

cat wins standoff with mountain lion

Cat vs. Mountain lion! Brave kitty refuses to back down as mountain lion tries to paw way into owner's house
Comedian Tom Mabe filmed his Himalayan cat staring down a mountain lion who wandered onto his property
The cat shows more curiosity than fear as lion paws at the window
'Where are the kids?' his horrified wife wants to know
'They're out back' he pranks her

--------

fearless house cat was spared one of his nine lives when he stood up to a mountain lion with only a window pane between them.
Despite the fact that the lion was much bigger, stronger and more fierce than the pretty Himalayan, the long-haired kitty showed no fear as the lion glowered at him from only inches away.
The video was posted to YouTube by owner and comedian Tom Mabe who runs a prank channel called MabeinAmerica. Mabe lives in Louisville, Kentucky, where the video appears to be filmed.

Obese Americans now outnumber those who are merely overweight, study says. 75% of men are overweight

Americans have reached a weighty milestone: Adults who are obese now outnumber those who are merely overweight, according to a new report in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine.

A tally by researchers from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis estimated that 67.6 million Americans over the age of 25 were obese as of 2012, and an additional 65.2 million were overweight. Their count was based on data collected between 2007 and 2012 as part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, an ongoing study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

____

Women were much more likely to be obese than overweight, with 37% of women in the former category and 30% in the latter. Altogether, two out every three women in the U.S. were above a normal weight.

The proportion of men who were obese was almost as high as women – 35%. But that figure was lower than the 40% of men who were in the overweight zone. With both groups combined, three out of four men in the U.S. exceeded a normal weight.

A poisonous mix in India: Crushing poverty, weak police and deadly liquor

Source: latimes

ners gathered under an ash-colored sky Monday outside Sathivel Nagakounder’s one-room house, the women wailing and wiping their eyes with their saris. His body was wreathed in garlands, wrapped in a snow-white shroud and carried through dirt lanes still soft from the morning rain.

In the northern Mumbai slum of Kharodi, the people have lost count of the funeral processions. More than 100 people have died since last week from drinking a toxic batch of homemade liquor, one of the worst such incidents in India in recent years, with dozens more still hospitalized.

Officials say the victims suffered poisoning by methanol, a cheap alcohol that bootleggers add to provide a kick, but which can be lethal in all but the smallest quantities.

Nagakounder, a married father of three, began vomiting blood last week after visiting one of the many unmarked neighborhood stalls that sell the illicit spirits, family members said.

mom upset that girl christening cake teddy bears has "crease" between legs

A mother is demanding a refund for a christening cake that had teddy bears with 'female genitals'.

Sharon Green says she was horrified when she picked up the cake for her three-year-old daughter Tahlia Rose's christening and saw that it had a "crease" that makes the teddy look like it has female genitals.

Mrs Green complained and demanded a refund, but she has not been given her money back.

In fact its makers, Occasion Cakes, claim Mrs Green, aged 45, has made a "bizarre and distasteful" connection.

Three stories of hardship put a face on L.A.'s exorbitant housing costs

in Reseda, an elderly couple fret about where they will go at the end of the month, when they are forced out of the one-room apartment they have lived in for 29 years.

In Tujunga, a retired woman lives in a backyard shed, treating her high blood pressure with tea made from her garden and bathing in an outdoor tub with water heated by the sun.

In Arleta, a supermarket employee rents a makeshift room in a house that is home to 10 people, and often waits in a long line to shower before work.

I didn't set out last Wednesday to tie these stories together; I was following leads in search of the small dramas that play out daily, beyond the headlines, in homes that do not make the Hot Property column.
