No charges will be filed against a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy who was using a mobile digital computer just before his patrol car fatally struck a prominent entertainment attorney as he was bicycling in Calabasas last year, the District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

A charge evaluation worksheet stated there was “insufficient evidence” to charge Deputy Andrew Wood with vehicular manslaughter in the Dec. 8, 2013, death of 65-year-old Milton Everett Olin Jr., a former chief operating officer for Napster.

“Wood briefly took his eyes away from the road precisely when the narrow roadway curved slightly to the left without prior warning, causing him to inadvertently travel straight into the bike lane, immediately striking” Olin, who was riding eastbound in the bicycle lane on Mulholland Highway shortly after 1 p.m., according to the documen

This is what happened to a woman who said "no" to a stranger's gropes

British woman posts battered selfie after perv punches her at festival
GRAPHIC PHOTO: Mary Brandon puts image of her gruesomely injured face online. She says a man at Notting Hill Carnival who repeatedly groped her bottom punched her she pushed him away.

Mary Brandon of London posted this image of her badly injured face after she was punched by man she didn’t know for telling him to keep his hands off her, she says. Facebook Mary Brandon of London posted this image of her badly injured face after she was punched by man she didn’t know for telling him to keep his hands off her, she says.

She said no. Twice. And when that didn’t work, she pushed him away.

So he punched her, putting all his weight into it, says Mary Brandon, who posted before and after photos of her badly injured face on Facebook.

The British woman had gone to the Notting Hill Carnival, a hugely popular London event that draws large crowds of celebrants.

Brandon says a man grabbed her buttock. When she told him to stop it, he did it again, she said in a public Facebook post expressing her outrage.

“I pushed him away, exercising my right to tell a man to stop touching my body without my permission, so he took a swing at me and punched me in the face,” she wrote.

Heartless Connecticut CEO caught kicking puppy in Canadian elevator

Heartless Connecticut CEO caught kicking puppy in Canadian elevator
Surveillance video from a Vancouver, British Columbia, high rise caught Desmond Hague abusing the trembling 1-year-old Doberman pinscher named Sade. The Connecticut man is the CEO of Centerplate, a catering company that distributes food to 350 sports event venues across the U.S., including New York City's Javits Convention Center. Sade was uninjured, and Hague said he apologized to her owner, one of his friends.

A heartless CEO blamed said "minor frustrations" led him to viciously beat his friend's 1-year-old Doberman pinscher.

Surveillance video from a Vancouver, British Columbia, high-rise caught Desmond Hague, a Connecticut catering company executive, yanking Sade the puppy into an elevator.

He then began his rampage, kicking the cowering pooch and pulling her by her leash. The terrified pup tried to recoil in the corner, but the beating continued until the elevator opened.

The video, dated July 27, was leaked to Canadian animal workers earlier this month.

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals raided the 39th-floor condominium last week and found Sade trembling in a urine-soaked cage with no food or water, the Vancouver Sun reported.

Indiana woman charged with feticide for pregnancy outcome

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/aug/26/indiana-woman-feticide-charge

A 33-year-old woman from Indiana, has been charged with the feticide and fetal murder of her unborn child after she endured a premature delivery and sought hospital treatment.

Purvi Patel faces between six and 20 years in prison for feticide and up to 50 years imprisonment for neglect of a dependent when she goes to trial, currently scheduled for 29 September. She is the second woman in Indiana to be charged with feticide following the prolonged criminal prosecution of Bei Bei Shuai, who lost her baby when she tried to kill herself.

Women’s rights advocates see the decision by prosecutors of St Joseph County, Indiana, to apply feticide laws against Patel as part of the creeping criminalization of pregnancy in America. At least 38 of the 50 states have introduced fetal homicide laws intended to protect the unborn child and in a growing number of states – including Alabama, Mississippi and South Carolina – those laws have been turned against mothers.

Lynn Paltrow of the group National Advocates for Pregnant Women said that “once again prosecutors in Indiana are using this very sad situation to establish that intentional abortions as well as unintentional pregnancy losses should be punished as crimes. In the US, as a matter of constitutional law and human decency, no woman should be arrested for the outcome of her pregnancy.”

Kathrine Jack, an Indiana attorney and activist who is following the Patel case closely, said that the state’s feticide law had never been intended to apply to pregnant women. It was initially framed to catch illegal abortion providers, and later expanded to include men who domestically abused their pregnant partners.

Egyptian cleric: Ok to peep on bathing women " as long as your intentions are pure"

An Egyptian cleric is preaching that it’s okay for peeping toms to secretly ogle women in the shower—as long as the men intend to tie the knot later.

Osama al-Qusi, an ultraordthodox cleric who subscribes to the Salafi branch of Islam, issued the statement in a video translated by al-Arabiya.

"If you were really honest and wanted to marry that woman, and you were able to hide and watch her in secret, and see the things that she wouldn't usually let you see before marrying her, then it is acceptable as long as your intentions are pure," Qusi said in the clip.

Islam encourages women to dress modestly and cover their bodies from males outside their direct family.

The cleric attempted to use the Quran to back up his claims, but his rhetoric was roundly rejected by Egypt’s minister for religious affairs, Mohamed Mokhtar.

Mark Driscoll, anti-woman pastor, is in freefall - accused of bullying other pastors at megachurch

A quick review of Driscoll’s greatest hits: Stay-at-home dads are “worse than unbelievers.” James Cameron’s Avatar is “the most demonic, satanic film” he’s ever seen. A wife should keep herself “sexually available” to her husband and, if she believes the Bible, better be giving him frequent blowjobs. “Effeminate” church musicians should be mocked on Facebook. Abstaining from alcohol can be a “sin.” The church has turned Jesus into a “a Richard Simmons, hippie, queer Christ,” when he’s actually a “prize fighter” who is “coming back looking for blood.” The Bible says women can’t have leadership positions in church because they’re “more gullible and easier to deceive than men.” Male masturbation is a “form of homosexuality” if there’s not a woman present.

BELLEVUE, Wash. - Senior pastor Mark Driscoll is taking an "extended focus break" of six weeks' duration from his Seattle-based mega-church while charges against him are investigated by a process prescribed by church bylaws, Driscoll told the 8:30 a.m. Sunday service at Mars Hill Bellevue.

The controversial evangelical said he is meeting with "a professional team of sincere Christians" in evaluating his conduct. But Driscoll said he will not take to public media to answer "the criticism of me" and keep his expressions directed at the Mars Hill flock.

"I have confessed many of my sins, shortcomings and God has been forgiving," Driscoll said, his voice breaking at times.

He went on the quote Romans12, in which St. Paul instructs: If it be possible, much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." Said Driscoll: "I am genuinely and deeply sorry for those occasions when I have not lived peaceably with all men."

Driscoll seemed intent on shoring up the home base, what has become in 18 years one of the nation's fastest growing evangelical churches with 15 campuses in 5 states. "I love you and I really appreciate you," he told the flock of about 500. They gave him a standing ovation.

Former Mars Hill Church Pastors Bring Formal Charges Against Mark Driscoll

On the heels of what was arguably the worst week in the history of Mars Hill Church, twenty-one former Mars Hill Church pastors brought charges late last week against lead pastor Mark Driscoll. Accompanied by a cover letter, briefs on workplace bullying and a summary of the powers of Mars Hill elders, the charges are being leveled by well-respected former pastors and are in the possession of the Mars Hill leadership. These documents greatly expand on charges brought by former pastor Dave Kraft. Those charges were dismissed by the Board of Advisors and Accountability. The cover letter states:

We have submitted to the Mars Hill board of advisors and accountability the attached formal charges of Mark’s disqualification from the pastoral office. We have signed these charges and intend to stand as witnesses. There are additional witnesses whose names have been withheld for their protection, but who also intend to testify in an investigation of these charges.

the Catholic church has NOT changed under the new pope - child raping employee protected from jail

For Nuncio Accused of Abuse, Dominicans Want Justice at Home, Not Abroad

://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/08/24/world/americas/whisked-away-vatican-ambassador-accused-of-sexual-abuse-of-minors.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=homepage&version=hpsumsmallmedia&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&wt.nav=top-news&_r=0&referrer=

the case is the first time that a top vatican ambassador, or nuncio — who serves as a personal envoy of the pope — has been accused of sexual abuse of minors. It has sent shock waves through the Vatican and two predominantly Catholic countries that have only begun to grapple with clergy sexual abuse: the Dominican Republic and Poland, where Mr. Wesolowski was ordained by the Polish prelate who later became Pope John Paul II.

It has also created a test for Pope Francis, who has called child sexual abuse “such an ugly crime” and pledged to move the Roman Catholic Church into an era of “zero tolerance.” For priests and bishops who have violated children, he told reporters in May, “There are no privileges.”

Mr. Wesolowski has already faced the harshest penalty possible under the church’s canon law, short of excommunication: on June 27, he was defrocked by the Vatican, reducing him to the status of a layman. The Vatican, which as a city-state has its own judicial system, has also said it intends to try Mr. Wesolowski on criminal charges — the first time the Vatican has held a criminal trial for sexual abuse.

But far from settling the matter, the Vatican has stirred an outcry because it helped Mr. Wesolowski avoid criminal prosecution and a possible jail sentence in the Dominican Republic. Acting against its own guidelines for handling abuse cases, the church failed to inform the local authorities of the evidence against him, secretly recalled him to Rome last year before he could be investigated, and then invoked diplomatic immunity for Mr. Wesolowski so that he could not face trial in the Dominican Republic.SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — He was a familiar figure to the skinny shoeshine boys who work along the oceanfront promenade here. Wearing black track pants and a baseball cap pulled low over his balding head, they say, he would stroll along in the late afternoon and bring one of them down to the rocky shoreline or to a deserted monument for a local Catholic hero.

The boys say he gave them money to perform sexual acts. They called him “the Italian” because he spoke Spanish with an Italian accent

It was only after he was spirited out of the country, the boys say, his picture splashed all over the local news media, that they learned his real identity: Archbishop Jozef Wesolowski, the Vatican’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

“He definitely seduced me with money,” said Francis Aquino Aneury, who says he was 14 when the man he met shining shoes began offering him increasingly larger sums for sexual acts. “I felt very bad. I knew it wasn’t the right thing to do, but I needed the money.”
