cop is selling "Breathe Easy: Don't Break the Law" T-shirt to improve race relations

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/breathe-easy-don-break-law-shirts-fire-article-1.2047689

An Indiana police officer's sale of T-shirts reading "Breathe Easy: Don't Break the Law" is being slammed by city council members as a "dangerous" message that warns “justice is not fair.”

The controversial twist on the "I can't Breathe" campaign — one intended to protest Eric Garner's death by a police officer — is meant to spread a message that "police are there for you," according to the South Bend store owned by Mishawaka Police Corporal Jason Barthel.

But to others it appears more like a threat of police taking justice into their own hands.

"We believe that people should be able to breathe easy no matter what they're doing. Police should not take the right to breathe into their own hands," South Bend District Council President Oliver Davis told the Daily News Tuesday.

Davis is now calling for stores to not sell the T-shirts with fellow council members Valerie Schey and Henry Davis Jr., as well as the Rev. Terrell Jackson of the South Bend NAACP.

"Breathe easy, don't break the law."

That's the slogan Barthel, owner of South Bend Uniform, is hoping will stop what he sees as negative stereotypes of police, while also improving race relations across the country.

Humane society posts a humorous ad about a troublesome dog (13 pounds of terror)

When Humane Society in Silicon Valley had a troublesome dog named Eddie up for adoption, they didn’t sugarcoat it. Instead of touting Eddie’s virtues, they wrote a want ad called “A Full Disclosure Blog: Three Reasons You DON’T Want To Adopt Eddie The Terrible.” And it is as funny as it is effective.

1) Like to go for walks in dog infested areas? Enjoy the dog park? Keep walking....
2) Want your kids to grow up with a full complement of fingers and toes? Not the dog for you.

If you love a challenge, are looking for the dog of a lifetime and think you can handle the thirteen pounds of terror that is Eddie, we won't stop you.

Elizabeth Laverty, volunteer photographer/videographer at the Humane Society, even put together a slasher flick-themed video to fully illustrate Eddie’s reign of terror.

Predictably, this creative campaign worked. Eddie the Terrible has been adopted, hopefully by a family with lots of naughty dog experience.

Those zombies don't stand a chance now...

You're in my world now, baby.

Arkansas town repeals anti-discrimination ordinance, thanks in part to Michelle Duggar's robocall

Arkansas town repeals anti-discrimination ordinance, thanks in part to Michelle Duggar

The reality star and mother of 19 recorded a fear-mongering robocall in an effort to overturn the measure

The town of Fayetteville, Arkansas, has voted to repeal an ordinance banning discrimination on the basis of numerous demographic characteristics — age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, the list goes on — thanks at least in part to the efforts of Michelle Duggar. Over the summer, the “19 Kids & Counting” star recorded a hateful, trans-phobic robocall encouraging voters to overturn Ordinance 119, inaccurately claiming that the measure — which allows transgender people to use public facilities associated with their identified gender — would allow “males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls.”

Fayetteville residents voted to repeal the act in a 52 to 48 percent split, and if they were motivated by Duggar, it likely wasn’t just her words that encouraged them. According to the New Civil Rights Movement, Duggar and her family have used their reality TV riches to fund their interests in local elections, including the one in Fayetteville:

The “19 Kids and Counting” family “donated $10,000 toward the campaigns of the three most outspoken opponents to Fayetteville’s new Civil Rights Administration ordinance. The Duggars gave $2,000 to John La Tour, and $4,000 to both Joshua Crawford and Paul Phaenuef,” the Fayettevile Flyer reported October 31. “La Tour, Crawford, and Phaneuf have all said they oppose the ordinance and were each listed as contacts on a press release for Repeal 119.”

NYPD Precinct Tweets A Few Good Men Nicholson Monologue

You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world that has walls. And those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives...You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You use 'em as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it! I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you're entitled to!

Almost 30 years later, victims are still traumatized by Mark Wahlberg's crimes

EXCLUSIVE: 'Kill the n*****! Kill the n*****!' Teacher reveals how Mark Wahlberg and 'thug' friends chased, taunted and hurled rocks at her fourth-graders - but she'll accept the pardon for an apology

Mary Belmonte tells MailOnline how a class outing to play in the sand turned into a nightmare for her mostly African-Americans students
Two of the little girls in her care - one black and one white - were hit in the head by a barrage of stones
Kristyn Atwood, one of the girls, does not think it is fair that Wahlberg should get his conviction overturned
MailOnline has discovered that one of the trio - Michael Guilfoyle - is now a senior Boston firefighter
Mary would like a face-to-face apology from the man who was once a racist street tough

For fourth-grade teacher Mary Deshaies, it was the scariest thing she had ever faced. As she walked her class back from an outing to the beach a gang of thugs suddenly attacked them shouting racial slurs and hurling rocks.

Two of the little girls in her care - one black and one white - were hit in the head by the barrage of stones. Others panicked and ran as she tried to protect them. One of the boys attempted to defend her. 'Don't you hurt my teacher,' he yelled at the assailants.

Now, nearly 30 years later Mary Belmonte, as she is now known, is having to relive the incident. For one of those louts was a teenage Mark Wahlberg and now he is begging for an official pardon for his actions on the mean streets of Boston's Southside.

100k payout to woman arrested for cursing cops as she rode past on bicycle

In Cobb County, Georgia, Amy Elizabeth Barnes was arrested on Easter Sunday 2012 when she rode her bicycle past two police officers questioning a black man outside of a convenience store. Her crime? Shouting, “Cobb police suck,” and, “Fuck the police,” while raising her middle fingers.

Impolitic, sure, but criminal? Judge Melodie Clayton sure didn't think so. She ruled this week that police had no grounds to arrest Barnes for incitement. “The evidence at trial showed that the Defendant was not engaged in a face-to-face confrontation with the officers which tended to incite an immediate breach of the peace when the words were spoken,” Judge Clayton wrote in her decision. “In addition, the word “su*k”, used as an epithet, is now common enough in modern society that it cannot reasonably provoke a threat of violence. The defendant’s other statement, '(expletive) the police,' was a fleeting epithet that was insulting and inappropriate, but it did not create an immediate threat and danger of violence.”

Barnes was awarded $100,000 in a settlement with the county, as a form of compensation for spending a day and night in jail (that includes six hours in solitary confinement).

cop took cell phone from witness. witness, had 2 phones. gave him phone without video

Cirulli’s attorney described the ex-cop as the “ultimate family man" who has been punished by losing the career that he had always dreamed of.

The "ultimate family man" accepted a plea deal in May and adhttp://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/crime/white-cop-who-beat-black-man-avoids-jail-instructs-police-abuse-video

itted hitting Willet on the ground and in a police car.

“We asked for two years [in jail] in this case,” said U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul Jr.

According to Buffalo News, Cirulli didn't go to jail partly because he and the FBI are teaching other cops not to commit human rights violations.

Judge Skretny said that Cirulli's work with the FBI will help to prevent a “culture” of excessive force in some police departments.

“There is a mentality, a culture, that is sometimes worrisome," Judge Skretny said.

“The FBI remains committed to investigating allegations of federal civil rights violations as well as engaging in proactive measures to prevent them from occurring,” added Brian P. Boetig, special agent in charge of the FBI office in Buffalo which works with Cirulli.

In addition to the assault, Cirulli also admitted that he took a cellphone from the bystander who filmed the incident, but Cirulli was unaware the witness gave him a second phone without the beating video.

Pictures of devastating rockslides / mudslides in California (today)

CAMARILLO, Calif. — Mountainsides stripped bare by a wildfire last year belched a damaging debris flow into a Southern California community during a downpour from a major Pacific storm early Friday.

Rocks, boulders and mud swept downhill by runoff piled up to the eaves of homes in Camarillo Springs, a community surrounding a golf course 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

An earthmover that had been brought in ahead of the storm to clear debris was buried as well, with just its big mechanical arm left sticking up out of the muck.

"It's $200,000 (of equipment) sitting under there," said heavy equipment mechanic Tony Morris. "It was good at 11:30 when I left last night."

The devastated California towns buried by the 'Pineapple Express' storm: Hundreds evacuated after rain triggered huge mudslides

Mudslides have forced hundreds of people from their homes in Camarillo Springs and Glendora, California
The 2am-mudslide in Camarillo dumped rocks - some as large as couches - on the quiet streets on Friday and some piles reached the rooflines of homes, while other houses were filled with deep, thick mud
The mudslides hit areas previously ravaged by wildfires during the drought
Parts of Northern California braced for as much as a foot of rain over just two days, with roads already flooded
