Clinton camp: We'll win California in 'tight race'

By NICK GASS 06/06/16 08:11 AM EDT

Hillary Clinton's chief campaign strategist and pollster sounded a note of measured confidence on his candidate's chances Tuesday in California.

"I think it’s, like a lot of states, it’s close, it’s competitive. I think we win a tight race," Joel Benenson said in an interview on CNN's "New Day," adding, "And I think we’re gonna win New Jersey I’m pretty confident about that earlier in the evening no matter how it comes out."

Federal judge calls Sanders backers’ arguments ‘hot air’—denies bid for emergency injunction

Federal judge calls Sanders backers’ arguments ‘hot air’—denies bid for emergency injunction

U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup rules from the bench that plaintiffs made ‘absolutely no showing of a violation of federal law’

SAN FRANCISCO (June 1, 2016)—A federal judge in San Francisco delivered a blistering rejection to a bid by supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign for an emergency court order that would have imposed significant eleventh hour requirements on elections officials in California’s June 7 Presidential Primary.

U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup described allegations by plaintiffs’ counsel as “hot air” shortly before ruling verbally from the bench, colorfully noting that “there’s not a single decision in the history of the universe” equating plaintiffs’ alleged facts with a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause. Alsup added that plaintiffs’ made “absolutely no showing of a violation of federal law.”

Why I think Bernie Sanders will drop out and endorse Hillary Clinton soon - Vox

Why I think Bernie Sanders will drop out and endorse Hillary Clinton soon
Updated by Matthew Yglesias on June 1, 2016, 7:00 a.m. ET @mattyglesias matt@vox.com

Sanders's left flank will peel away

At the same time as the more establishment-oriented wing of the Sanders movement abandons him in favor of Clinton, the more radical wing will also abandon him.

Sanders's core voting base in the primary has come from young people who probably didn't participate in the 2000 campaign. But several of Sanders's more prominent surrogates — people like Cornel West and Susan Sarandon — are longtime critics of the Democratic Party who backed Ralph Nader back then.

Once it's clear that Sanders has lost the nomination, Sanders's elite Democratic supporters will rally behind Clinton, the Democratic nominee.

And once it's clear that Sanders has lost the nomination, Sanders's elite anti-Democratic supporters will rally behind Jill Stein, the Green Party spoiler du jour.
