Not a Dream: Romney's Top 5 Comments Made During the Primaries About Immigration

Think Progress:

Earlier this afternoon, President Obama announced a new “deferred action” immigration policy that would protect students in the U.S. who are already in deportation proceedings or those who qualify for the DREAM Act and have yet to come forward to the Department of Homeland Security from being deported.

Confronted with the president’s landmark announcement, Mitt Romney attempted to whitewash his draconian immigration views during a campaign stop in New Hampshire today. Romney told reporters that he “agrees with Marco Rubio,” who has proposed a DREAM Act alternative.

This newfound belief is a far cry from his views during the primary campaign. Here are Romney’s top 5 comments on immigration during the Republican primary

1. Romney attacked Governor Rick Perry for supporting DREAM Act, calling it a “magnet for illegal immigration.”: , they should not be able to have the same academic opportunities as their peers. [September 2011, USA Today]

2. Romney pledged to veto the DREAM Act: In December, Mitt Romney promised to veto the DREAM Act if he were elected president. .” [December 2011, ABC News]

3. Romney promised to make life so miserable for undocumented immigrants that they would “self-deport.”: At a Florida GOP Debate, Romney said that he would enforce stringent documentation policies that would make it difficult for illegal immigrations to find work, eventually spurring them to “self-deport.” .” [January 2012, Huffington Post]

4. Romney rebuffed undocumented young woman who was brought to U.S. at age 10 and had a 4.0 grade-point average: young [January 2012, The Hill]

5. Romney consults author of extreme anti-immigrant legislation on immigration issues:

Romney and his ilk are going to have a hard time on this one..with Latino voters..He has already counted his teabagger voters, but, now, and the above record, I think he will get less than 25 percent of Latino voters..Also..there is this little matter of the Republican party getting Latinos mixed up with Asians...see yesterdays news..you get the picture.

IF Nuns Went on Strike, the Church Would Shut Down

If Nuns Went on Strike, the Church Would Shut Down
Thursday, 14 June 2012 09:55 By Mark Engler, Dissent Magazine | Op-Ed

They run hospitals, schools, and social programs. They are stalwart leaders in many spiritual communities. And they are contributing vital insights to the Christian theological discussion. If nuns went on strike, many of the institutions of the Catholic Church would grind to a standstill.

Sure, a work stoppage of this sort is a long shot. But I’d love to see it. Having witnessed both priests and nuns in action, there’s no doubt in my mind which group dominates in the getting-shit-done department. It would be a fine show watching the bishops try to scramble and pick up the slack if the sisters said “enough.”

Certainly, the nuns would have good reason to do so. A storm has been brewing since April, when the Vatican released a statement condemning American nuns for showing too much independence of thought and not adequately deferring to the bishops, who, Rome tells us, “are the church’s authentic teachers of faith and morals.” A remarkable June 1 story in the New York Times recounted how the Vatican criticized the sisters for “focusing its work too much on poverty and economic injustice, while keeping ‘silent’ on abortion and same-sex marriage.”

GOP Uses Stock Photo of Asians in Latino Outreach Site

Source: Think Progresss

RNClatinos.com, the Republican National Committee’s new website aimed at Latino voter outreach, uses a stock photograph of Asian children as its banner picture.

The stock photo found on Shutterstock is listed with tags including “asia, asian, cheeks, children, cool… interracial, japanese… thailand, together, trendy.” But the words ‘hispanic’ or ‘latino’ are nowhere on the page.

The GOP has been making a concerted effort to reach out to Latino voters this election season — but, by any account, this particular effort was less than successful.

Prime example of Huffington Post slanting views of President Obama..

Here he is giving today's speech..from the Daily Beast
scroll down a bit to see today's speech

http://www.thedailybeast.com/

Here he is also on the front page of the Huffington Post..
You also need to scroll down some.4th or 5th one down below huge picture of Pukes..

Top pic, he is standing behind flags..second pic, flags are gone
Why?
Bottom pic, rather unattractive pic of the President.
Often Post has the most unattractive or least photo friendly picturesof Obama
Why do you suppose that is??

Now if you hit the link.. 'If You Want To Give The Last Decade Another Try, Vote For Romney'..printed .above the picture..
it will take you to a story where the real picture is used, (in the political section)
and the flags are there..

But some just come and look for a while at the front page, and all they see is this awful picture of Obama, taken somewhere
else... What do you think?

Ann Mcfall-- Republican ..County Election Supervisor, Will Not Resume Voter Purge No Matter What..

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/06/12/497973/gop-election-supervisor-blasts-florida-lawsuit-against-feds//

By Josh Israel posted from ThinkProgress Justice on Jun 12, 2012 at 9:30 am

Even if Gov. Rick Scott’s (R-FL) administration prevails in its new lawsuit against the Obama administration, his efforts to purge voters before November’s election still faces a major obstacle — the county elections supervisors, including 30 Republicans, who have the ultimate authority over the voting rolls.

Republican Ann McFall, county supervisor of elections for Volusia County, told ThinkProgress that the lawsuit does not have her support and she will not resume purging voters before the elections, regardless of the suit’s outcome:
No I do not support the lawsuit. It is [about] helping the Governor and Secretary of State improve their image. I am not doing any further voter purge until after Nov 2012.

Here is an interview with Ann McFall that Rachel Maddow did on June 6 if you are wondering who this person is...
The entire interview is worth listening to, Rachel does a terrific job of explaination and clarification on the topic, but
the Interview with McFall starts at about 6 minutes in.

Department of Justice Plans to Sue Florida over Voter Purge

Source: Talking Points Memo

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division is planning to sue the state of Florida for purging voters from its rolls in violation of federal law, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez said in a letter to Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner Monday.

DOJ warned Florida last month that its efforts to purge individuals believed to be noncitizens from the voter rolls would violate federal law because the process had not been cleared by either the Justice Department or a federal court, and because the purge was taking place too close to Florida’s August primary. Perez wrote Monday that he “authorized the initiation of an enforcement action against Florida in federal court” because the state had “indicated its unwillingness to comply” with federal laws.

Breaking: Florida Governor Rick Scott Announces Florida Will Sue Obama Administration Over Vot Purge

Source: Think Progresss

By Judd Legum on Jun 11, 2012 at 4:29 pm

During an appearance on Fox News Monday afternoon, Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) announced that the state will sue the Department of Homeland Security to obtain access to a database that it believes will provide more accurate information on the citizenship status of Florida voters.

“The Florida’s Secretary of State office wil be filing a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security to give us that database,” Scott said. “We want to have fair, honest elections in our state and so we have been put in a position that we have to sue the federal government to get this information.” The move comes after Scott disregarded a request from the Department of Justice on Wednesday to abandon efforts to purge eligible voters

14 Million Seniors Are Already Benefiting From Obamacare

| Medicare reports that 14.3 million seniors in America have already received important preventive benefits under President Obama’s health care law. In the first few months of 2012, seniors were able to take advantage of a number of preventative health services, including an annual checkup, without paying any deductibles or co-pays. “Thanks to the health care law, millions of Americans are getting cancer screenings, mammograms, and other preventive services for free,” said acting CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner. “These preventive services are helping people in Medicare stay healthy and lower their health care costs.” –Angela Guo

Terry Jones :Exclusive Interview

Source: Broward Palm Beach New Times, and Huffington Post

Gainesville pastor Terry Jones says his church has been contacted twice by the Secret Service in response to the display at the Dove World Outreach Center that features an effigy of President Barack Obama hanging from a noose. (The photograph sent to us shows an Uncle Sam dummy hung up; one from the Smoking Gun shows Obama in the noose.)

The Pulp spoke with him this afternoon about the display and about his declarations that he is running as a write-in candidate for president. Jones said the display was not meant to have any racial symbolism and was only ;a symbolic action saying we do not, of course, want him reelected. It is death -- of course, not to him. To his political career.
