The whole "let's dump Joe Biden" meme.

Now, let me say that I really do not think the people pushing this meme represent most Hillary Clinton supporters. Yes, I was and am a Obama supporter in 2008, and I will not deny that fists flew back then. However, I do think that, aside from the occasional PUMA, most are not falling for this.

What this reflects is simple: The GOP wants very hard to sell the idea that Obama is not fit to be president, nor was he ever fit. Simply put, they know they have put their worst foot forward; even Mitt cannot really be sold well once he gets put under the microscope, and that has nothing to do with being a Mormon, and everything to do with the fact he is exactly the Layoff-ordering, outsourcing, "corporations are people too" type that led us into this mess. There is not one GOP candidate whose own commercials, that play so well in the primary, cannot become a major source of pain in the general (see the above quote from Mitt for an excellent example).

They know that this is our fight to lose, so they will do anything to make us shoot each other. Anything to shatter unity. They will once again shovel money to Ralph Nader, and focus on how many on the left are pissed at Obama, and how many people feel "how much does my vote really count?" to try and keep us from getting into those boxes. If voting counts for so little, why are the GOP run governments trying so hard to limit it, and bleating that old refrain "democrats only win by voter fraud", to ensure that only "certain people" get the right to vote?

Make no mistake, this is desperation on their part. For all the despair, we still are ahead, and this fight is ours to lose.

Going into 2012

I will confess, on many levels, 2012 is set to be a stinker of a year, regardless of any Mayan prediction. I am in Tampa, which means the GOP Parasite will be using our town as a host. Let me be blunt, even if every GOP candidate were to swear fealty to Mitt tomorrow, the Tea Party would still find a way to make a mess, with Jeb pouring on Gasoline. Normally I would laugh, save that it will give the Tampa PD an excuse to crack heads, as they are already bragging in the papers about beating hippies up. On the other side, I do realize that the best my vote can get is to keep a somewhat weak president in office, one that keeps on trying to play chess when he forgets this is a boxing match. Yeah yeah, talk Third party or protest vote, I have seen that being used by the GOP to get Idiot son in, and I do not want to see the good Bishop Romney get in. However, the "hope" for "change" I felt does feel a bit foolish now, though I am still thankful I did not vote for Hillary. She did not get to have her war with Iran, nor continue where her and Bill left off gutting the left. Still, that is cold comfort, to think that we are still so far behind that the best we can hope for is "not awful."

Still, there is hope this year. OWS, in it's various guises, is too damned big to be written off. Even when the jackboots bash heads (and they will) all they will do is turn people into martyrs, the most effective warrior there is. Also, there is hope that we, on the left, no matter where we are, might sees more of a common interest, and try to help each other. I will still never vote for Ron Paul, who does have some decent ideas, but is deluded if he thinks the corporations will not undo all that good, to say nothing of his tolerance of racial intolerance. Still, we take advantage of the fact that maybe, this time, the nation realize that Lucy will always pull the football away, and that a new game and strategy is called for. I am also happy to see that DU3 did not turn this place into some Huffington Post style Dino den, or FDL style screaming match. There is room for all types here. Yeah, we have some bugs to tap out, but DU is still a supportive forum, a family, like it SHOULD be.

Of course, Hope is not enough; what we need in 2012 is WILL, to actually hold firm against the right, and insist that line goes left.

Mafia vs. the Current one percent

This was inspired by a reply to another thread, but I think it will stand on it's own

MAFIA vs. THE ONE PERCENT.

Recruitment:

The Mafia demands that all it's people start in entry level positions. Recruitment is based on neighborhoods, which leaves out any outsourcing.

The One percent has many people that never had to prove actual competence; many of them never had to earn a position, or manage their affairs on their own.

Responsibility:
If you fail in the Mafia, criticism is quick, clear and efficient, often ensuring that one way or another, the offender NEVER gets to commit the same offense again. They will NOT allow someone to damage assets just because they were good in the past.

The One percent is made up of people who have landed with Golden parachutes, literally getting hired in the some sort of job that they just finished screwing up at. They will even pay people to help them damage the assets more so they can liquidate them (like Mitt Romney's old job at Bain.)

The left wing civil war

You know, we are all not going to agree. We are not like the folks on the other side that will talk about how they will never vote for Mitt Romney or Newt, and then, come election day, speak of him as if he was the anointed messiah, and we were on his side all along. We are though, the left; granted, different shades of left, ranging from center to outright anarchist.

However, the truth is, we do eat our own. It has gotten to the point where the right wing not only admits they plant people on left wing boards, they BRAG about it, because they know the culture we have created will not allow for any cease-fire. , and that

Now, I am not asking for anybody not to speak.. If you love Obama, if you hate Obama, you have a right to speak, period. However, we should, in between the sparring, remember that we are all we have right now. Yes, we can box ourselves silly, but let's remember we are not out to kill each other.

AP Sources: Dem Lawmakers May Drop Millionaire Tax

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/focus-senate-house-oks-payroll-tax-cut-15151246#.TukF8GMk6so

From the article:
"The disclosure came as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other leading Democrats went to the White House to meet with Obama. The subject of that meeting was not announced."

Say what you want about Obama, but make damned sure Harry Reid gets the fair share, as he is a complete and total fiasco! If Reid thought of this, I hope that there is a Hell for him to burn in! Obama knows he cannot mount one decent offense when Reid undercuts him already!

DU3, good and bad

The good:

NO MORE UN_REC:

Un-rec was working against the very integrity of the site, as a bunch of GOP operatives bragged about infiltrating left wing sites. It was a means of censoring people without any accountability.

The JURY:
I think that this forces us to take more control, and it also allows for a great diversity in opinions. Here, it is not just skinner and company that gets to set standards.

The bad:

No Greatest page:

We do need this feature back asap, as it lets people sift through the firehose of content

Hard and fast:

At some point, we need to sit down and decide what is clearly above the pale, what words are just so bigoted and offensive that we just avoid them.

Mitt Romney's Losing $10,000 Bet at Iowa Debate (Video)

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/12/mitt-romneys-losing-10-000-bet-at-iowa-debate-video/249814/?google_editors_picks=true

Now, here are some observations.

Everybody is talking how stupid it is to advertise that you can casually throw Ten grand around. Yes, this is true, and worth talking about. But watch the tape.

Mitt's whole glory is that he is supposed to be the REASONABLE GUY, the one that WON'T do something stupid to feed his ego. Check out the transcript:

*****Transcript*****

Perry, addressing himself once again to a critique of Romney's health-care policy in Massachusetts, said: "You know, I'm just saying you were for individual mandates my friend."

"You know what, you've raised that before, Rick. And you're still wrong," Romney retorted.

"It was true then. It's true now," Perry replied, laughing.

"10,000 bucks? 10,000 dollar bet?" Romney shot out his hand looking for Perry to take the bait.

Perry laughed again. "I'm not in the bettin' business, but I'll show you the book."

"I've got the book," snipped Romney.

*****************

OK, what this means here is that Mitt did NOT just do this on the fly. He knew what the damned book said, and thought he could scare Rick off with money. This shows that he did not do his homework on Perry. This was the sort of juvenile stunt that would get a high-school senior kicked off the debate team! Furthermore, Perry sat back and laughed, knowing that in this instance, he DID have Mitt by his neck, and that he got to...and here is the bad part...he actually looked CALM next to mitt, who was obviously panicking and acting STUPID.

Folks, when Rick Perry cam make a fool out of you, you are NOT the "safe choice." This is WORSE than merely doing a Marie Antoinette; having a "let them eat cake" moment. What we saw here is that Mitt is actually STUPID, and that someone who was once called W. without the brains could make him look STUPID.
