here is why Van Jones is wrong

Let's say that Trump by some bit of luck does one or two good things; sometimes people stumble into doing something. He still does not deserve praise, because , as Van should know more than anyone, it is the overall package that is being sold, and the empowerment of people with bad intent needs to be fought. If we start fawning over the man because he manages to not spend an hour makign an ass of himself, we shoot ourselves in the foot.

Considering the truly harsh standards he held Obama to, he should know better than to allow Trump a pass because he managed to avoid saying something stupid for a night, and certainly not allow Trump to use the dead widow as a shield.

It is one thing for some desperate unemployed person from Western Pennsylvania to swallow a Trump lie, and even they do not get a pass, Van Jones gets far less of one, as in NONE. If this, especially after Obama, is the low bar for becoming the "president", then frankly this is no longer a country worth the effort.

This is a sad example on how we are wasting our efforts when we try to eliminate cannabis, yet we let medical companies make a mint as they cause problems selling their opiates legally, then make money making Fentayl. You think the drug cartels are just growing Fentanyl in the fields? This came about because many, including our current governor, made money allowing Florida to become the opiate capital of the nation, where these pain clinics have plates as far away as Alaska and Kentucky, where huge amounts of pills are put into pick up trucks.

social justice vs economic justice. The vs. is the problem

Throughout 2016, and to some extent, the past 20 years there has been talk of "social justice" versus "economic justice", and in 2016 that boil truly erupted. You had some Sanders voters out right counting down the concerns of minorities, because economic matters mattered to them. On the other hand, he did have some Hillary voters who were outright dismissive of the fact that the economy has left many people behind, and focus only on the fact that Hillary would be seen as a boon for social justice.

What I'm about to say here may alienate some people, but it needs to be said. This is not a matter of putting one on the back burner while putting another on the front burner. The fact that many,many of us were able to get divided this way is the sort of self-inflicted wound that Republicans were not clever, skilled nor smart enough to do. The fact is, you cannot address social justice and economic justice separately, because if you do the GOP will attack on both fronts and simply wait to see whether one wall falls first or another. They will simply wait to see if we are too poor to fight them, or to socially divided to fight them, and then they will attack with either a lot of money, a mob of bigots, or both.

History will show this idea in action. For example, while many Jews in Eastern Europe were poor, some of them were wealthy. Not nearly as much is the stereotypes would describe, but there were some wealthy Jewish businesspeople. When all their wealth get them against the Nazis, nothing, nothing but being targeted and plundered first. Keep in mind, in Europe right now, there are still billions of dollars of assets that the grandchildren of the former plunderers refuse to give back, which of course means that is right wing movements rise in Europe, some people be encouraged to repeat the process that after all did work for them, and was never fully punished.

You can insert a number of variables into this equation and get the same result: let's be blunt, how many Catholics have been president of the United States of America? How many Jews? We had one black president, no women. The Hillary folks had every right to make a point that if Brazil, England, France, Liberia, Canada could actually have a woman in office, the fact that we could not do that was a sign of weakness.

Now, you can point to a rich minority member, but even the richest among the minority members will always be more vulnerable to attack that members of the good old boy network. Martha Stewart did a white-collar crime that ranged in the few hundred thousand dollars bracket. Yes, she did need to go to jail, but compared of that with folks who not only got away with billion dollar fraud, but some of them are on Trump's cabinet.

Now, let's go ahead and take a look the other side Coin; what happens when civil rights are fully written into law but economic power is not there. Sadly America has plenty of examples of this: on paper black Americans should have the right to vote, and indeed also writes any other citizen has. We know damn well that because black people did not have the economic power to fight in court's, the law feels free to deal them a nastier hand. It is the same reason why so many people are still angry about the O.J. Simpson case. You had someone who could afford a good lawyer, and the prosecutor lost.

Of course, you can feel the O.J. Simpson did it, or did not do it, but the fact is if he didn't have his money, he would've been found guilty. I could plug a number of variables in this equation: the fact that American Indians supposedly own their land, which is enforced by treaty, go ahead and tell that folks standing rock, or videos whose reservation was invaded by Bundy.

The point is, as long as we're fighting to see whose pet issues get on the front burner, all we're going to do is leave a mess and neither of those issues will get the attention they deserve. If we do not reinforce both of the fronts that the GOP will use to attack us, both civil rights and economic rights, all the do is bide their time and figure out where they need to attack us on one side or the other. People need both of these, we need to stop arguing whether or not the working class needs freedom from prosecution or freedom from want, because they need and deserve both. But A lack of either makes it easier for the GOP to take both.

about Milo and Maher

I confess I am of two minds about this: on the one hand, not only does me low have an abundance of soapboxes to spew his hate speech, that anyone who reads what he actually says knows he is encouraging violence, which automatically should cut down any objection to censoring him. He is the guy that will yell "fire" in a crowded theater.

However, I can understand why not allowing him to speak could make a martyr out of him. What a lot of people who he Trump did not understand is this: his followers are fueled by our anger. They get to go on the Internet and say "look at help his we made this liberal, Yahoo!" instead of making them feel ashamed, they feel like they are confirmed. So I can understand some of why Bill Maherwas willing to allow him on.

However, if you are going to let someone that toxic get airtime, airtime but some agents will literally pay millions of dollars to try to get, you better make it clear why you are doing it, to shame or the very least give a very hard challenge to the hateful actions such a person has done. let me state this clearly: Bill Maher did a piece poor job at best, and at worst was outright supportive! For someone who has had a television show for the better part of a decade, for someone that has been out right merciless against religious types, he was making clear that he was enjoying Mr. Y, and indeed, seem to be enjoying using him to pass off liberals, the same way Mr. Bannon does. That alone means that Bill Meyer show should be consigned to the trash heap.

Now now, before someone brings up the inevitable "he has Ann Coulter and Grover Norquist on there all the time" deflection, let me say this, Ms. Coulter and especially Mr. Norquist are old, established and more importantly, most importantly loaded with money. They are a cancer that if you attempted to just cut it off would simply leave the patient bleeding thanks to the fact that they have spread to the very roots. Mr.Y is not that, yet. For all the celebrity he may have, he is just one day away from being another reality Internet TV star, the ones that Bravo or VH1 will put in some degrading pseudo-game show so we can laugh at them while they're forced to wear funny costumes. When someone is trying to go from being a small C " celebrity" to a capital C, that is when they are vulnerable, and that is when absolutely no quarter should be spared. No portion be spared especially from someone who became a famous television star because he gave the act of showing no quarter, even though he is very comfortable with people who hate us and often uses his platform to assault minorities and women, becoming the very the sort of clueless "white liberal" he rages against.

You will see an example of how this interview should've gone:

there is Joe Rogan, someone much more famous for his work with the UFC than he ever was as a comedian, certainly not as famous as Bill was. Yet you see Joe destroying Mr.Y, in a way that merely brutal, but comes straight to the heart of the matter, and, and is actually said with Heart. Compare the way Milo looked on Joe's show with the fawning on Bill Maher. Joe did not even need Larry wilmer, though gos I wish he had him on.

By the way Bill, you allowed your black guest to be treated like extras in a minstrel show despite the fact that both of them had credentials that were more solid than your favorite guest. That will not be forgotten, nor should it. If they show had worked like it should, Mr. Y would've been embarrassed at the very least, instead your credibility is the one that is going down the toilet.

This is the set up for that book that he has been paid to write? Now, I realize that one level this question would make a good joke, but I think there is more to it than that. Let's not forget, the one thing that led to more gain acceptance in the last few years with the testimony of people like Ellen, like Rosie, like Rachel that their lgbt this was something that was always a part of them. For all the comic nature of Bruce becoming Caitlin Jenner, it did go ahead and highlight the fact that no being gay is not something you can change. It is not illness happens to you because of your mother, father or whether or not you wore the wrong clothes as a kid.

Now, we have Milo, who works for a genuine film producer by the name of Steve Bannon, ready to document a new adventure. This could easily be a reality TV show for the Christian set. And of course, if Milo gets cured, then these clinics will get free advertising and probable government support.

It will not be as simple as Milo saying I got cured, it could easily be a billion industry in the waiting which makes it damn sure Milo either stays cured or has an accident. Stay tuned.

About the deep state woes (re: flynn, why are we rooting for spies?)

Now, I understand the misgiving many people have about being happy the spies took down Flynn. Aren't these the folks that found nukes were there mere none? Aren't these the folks that spied on many an activist?

Yes, and truth be told, our intelligence community has been riding too wild for a half century, being a bastion of fascism. However, in the case of Flynn, the person targeted was a member of that intelligence community, or at the very least, someone with power over them. This was a rare, but clear case, where spies policed their own, especially as Comey of the FBI has still not been called to account for his actions.

Yes, spies are scary, but this was a rare case where they directed that power at someone who, by the nature of his power, and the abuses of that power, was a threat to the world, especially the muslims he wanted togo to war with. Flynn was no civilian.
