St. Sen. Martin Golden stirs up a storm with 'style camp' for job-seeking women, cancels it

ALBANY — State Sen. Martin Golden wanted to hold a style camp for job-seeking women — but wound up looking more out of fashion than a perm.

The Brooklyn Republican was forced Tuesday to pull the plug on the how-to-be-a-lady class — which promised to teach “posture, deportment and feminine presence” — after news of the planned July 24 event led to a swarm of criticism.

The seminar was intended to show women “what’s new in the 21st Century as it relates to business etiquette and social protocol,” according to a taxpayer-funded promotional flyer.

Instruction was to include a primer on the art of shaking hands as well as insight on how to “sit, stand and walk like a model,” and how to negotiate stairs while still looking elegant.

Sword, Sandwich Used in Attack on Women, Deputies Say

A Winter Haven man remained in jail Sunday after he was accused of attacking three women with a 4-foot sword and a peanut-butter sandwich, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Mark Christopher Miller, 50, used the sword to threaten two women, one of them pregnant, and then smeared another with the sandwich before the deputies hauled him away, according to his arrest report.

As the deputies drove him to jail, Miller ripped a piece of padding from the inside of the patrol car with his teeth, the report says.

The fracas began when Miller heard a disturbance outside his mobile home at 2500 U.S. 92 W. No. 18A. He exited, sword in hand, and "poked" it at the 6-month pregnant woman's stomach, the report says. She managed to grab the blade and stop him from stabbing her.

Kathy Griffin: I Would Never Have Dreamed of Outing Anderson Cooper

My friend Anderson Cooper is the scion of one of America’s great shipping and railroad families, the Vanderbilts. He’s covered the military coup and eventual unseating of the democratically elected (albeit bat-shit crazy) Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. He’s covered the small wars in Africa that use children as slave soldiers. He knows more about the women of The Real Housewives than perhaps even I do. He’s covered the seemingly endless large wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. And by “covered,” I mean he’s really gone and covered them—with a security detail and without; embedded with troops and unilaterally—not from the relative safety of the Green Zone in Baghdad or the international zone in Kabul. He’s sat down with despots in countries like Somalia, covered the atrocities in the Balkans and Burma. And he also happens to be gay.

Funny thing, that.....

Kicking around for as many years as I have, I’ve done countless interviews pushing Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, stand-up comedy specials, live comedy dates, the Kathy show, and everything in between. I’ve talked to everyone from a local gay blogger to Time magazine. I’m not really sure at what point it changed, but the press—or at least the press who covered my little carnival—became fixated on Anderson’s orientation. And for years, I talked around it.

Believe it or not, I don’t “out” people. It is neither my business nor my desire. Remember, folks, I am a comedian, not a journalist. These weren’t questions where I could make a joke about Ryan Seacrest getting a mani/pedi. This isn’t a joke I make about whether Oprah and Gayle are gay lovers. I have no idea if Oprah and Gayle are gay lovers. I doubt they are, but as a comedian, I find some comedy in picturing those two girls running the world as a power couple. Anderson is someone who has led a very specific kind of professional life, who never talked and simultaneously exhibited social contradictions. And quite frankly, he never gave me permission to speak about something that represented the one part of his life he was not comfortable having confirmed in the media. But in my dealings with a certain sector of the press, that simply was never good enough.

AMBER Alert lifted as boy, 2, and father found

A father accused of abducting his son Monday from a Clarendon County gas station and was hiding in a swampy area near Paxville is in custody, and the 2-year-old boy has been found safe.
WIS-TV reported the boy and his father were found in the cab of a tractor trailer at a cornfield.

Paterno's family better be careful what they wish for:

Joe Paterno's Family Wants All Emails And Records Released

Following the conclusion of the Jerry Sandusky trial, news has come out that a report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh could shed some light on the 2001 Penn State investigation into the initial Sandusky allegations. Early leaked emails from the report appear to suggest that former Penn St. Nittany Lions head coach Joe Paterno may have been involved in discussions that concluded the Sandusky allegations would be better left as an internal PSU matter and not brought to outside authorities.

Genaro C. Armas of the Associated Press reports that Paterno's family is requesting that Freeh release all of the emails and records regarding the investigation. Paterno's family believes that the leaking of specific emails is intentionally casting the late coach in a harsh light and is tantamount to slander.

Lawd! A scumbag daddy kidnapped this child and left him in the woods: (still missing 7am)

A father accused of abducting his son Monday from a Clarendon County gas station was hiding in a swampy area near Paxville as of presstime, while authorities continued to look for the 2-year-old boy.

An Amber Alert was issued Monday for a 2-year-old Brandon Lee Dubose II who authorities say was abducted by his 32-year-old father.

"When he went in that swamp the child was not with him; when he got out of the truck he was," Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said during a press conference.

Monday night's search was focusing on finding the child, Garrett said. The elder Dubose was believed to be in the Sammy Swamp. Tracks made by Dubose indicate the child was not with him.
