Repost again for hurricane season:

Florence is coming.

"Official SC Law Enforcement Hurricane Instructions"
If a hurricane is imminent, this will be broadcast)
Warning to all South Carolina residents of a possible hurricane threat. The path of this hurricane is still unclear and may be a threat to our state.

Although meteorologists are predicting landfall somewhere to the north of South Carolina, state emergency preparedness officials are making two basic but important points:
(1) There is no need to panic.
(2) We could all be killed.

Hurricane season is an exciting time to be in South Carolina. If you’re new to the area, you’re probably wondering what you need to do to prepare for the possibility that we’ll get hit by “the big one.” Based on experience, we recommend that you follow this simple three-step hurricane preparedness plan:
STEP 1. Buy enough food, beer, and bottled water to last your family for at least three days.
STEP 2. Put these supplies into your car.
STEP 3. Drive to Nebraska and remain there until Halloween.

Unfortunately, statistics show that most people will not follow this sensible plan. Most people will foolishly stay here in South Carolina. We’ll start with one of the most important hurricane preparedness items: HOMEOWNERS’ INSURANCE: If you own a home, you must have hurricane insurance. Fortunately, this insurance is cheap and easy to get, as long as your home meets two basic requirements:
(1) It is reasonably well-built, and
(2) It is located in Nebraska.

Unfortunately, if your home is located in South Carolina, or any other area that might actually be hit by a hurricane, most insurance companies would prefer not to sell you hurricane insurance, because then they might be required to pay YOU money, and that is certainly not why they got into the insurance business in the first place. So you’ll have to scrounge around for an insurance company, which will charge you an annual premium roughly equal to the replacement value of your house. At any moment, this company can drop you like used dental floss.

Since Hurricane George, I have had an estimated 27 different home-insurance companies. This week, I’m covered by the Bubba and Big Stan Insurance Company, under a policy which states that, in addition to my premium, Bubba and Big Stan are entitled, on demand, to my kidneys.
SHUTTERS: Your house should have hurricane shutters on all the windows, all the doors, and — if it’s a major hurricane — all the toilets. There are several types of shutters, with advantages and disadvantages:
Plywood shutters: The advantage is that, because you make them yourself, they’re cheap. The disadvantage is that, because you make them yourself, they will fall off.
Sheet-metal shutters: The advantage is that these work well, once you get them all up. The disadvantage is that once you get them all up, your hands will be useless bleeding stumps, and it will be December.
Roll-down shutters: The advantages are that they’re very easy to use, and will definitely protect your house. The disadvantage is that you will have to sell your house to pay for them.

Hurricane-proof windows: These are the newest wrinkle in hurricane protection: They look like ordinary windows, but they can withstand hurricane winds! You can be sure of this, because the salesman says so. He lives in Nebraska.
Hurricane Proofing Your Property: As the hurricane approaches, check your yard for movable objects like barbecue grills, planters, patio furniture, visiting relatives, etc.. You should, as a precaution, throw these items into your swimming pool (if you don’t have a swimming pool, you should have one built immediately). Otherwise, the hurricane winds will turn these objects into deadly missiles.

EVACUATION ROUTE: If you live in a low-lying area, you should have an evacuation route planned out. (To determine whether you live in a low-lying area, look at your driver’s license; if it says “South Carolina,” you live in a low-lying area.) The purpose of having an evacuation route is to avoid being trapped in your home when a major storm hits. Instead, you will be trapped in a gigantic traffic jam several miles from your home, along with two hundred thousand other evacuees. So, as a bonus, you will not be lonely.

HURRICANE SUPPLIES: If you don’t evacuate, you will need a mess of supplies. Do not buy them now! South Carolina tradition requires that you wait until the last possible minute, then go to the supermarket and get into vicious fights with strangers over who gets the last can of SPAM.
In addition to food and water, you will need the following supplies: 23 flashlights At least $167 worth of batteries that turn out, when the power goes off, to be the wrong size for the flashlights. Bleach. (We don’t know what the bleach is for. NOBODY knows what the bleach is for, but it’s traditional, so GET some!) A 55-gallon drum of underarm deodorant. A big knife that you can strap to your leg. (This will be useless in a hurricane, but it looks cool.) A large quantity of raw chicken, to placate the alligators. (Ask anybody who went through Hugo. After the hurricane, there WILL be irate alligators.) $35,000 in cash or diamonds so that, after the hurricane passes, you can buy a generator from a man with no discernible teeth.

Of course these are just basic precautions. As the hurricane draws near, it is vitally important that you keep abreast of the situation by turning on your television and watching TV reporters in rain slickers stand right next to the ocean and tell you over and over how vitally important it is for everybody to stay away from the ocean.
Good luck, and remember: It’s great living in South Carolina!

Lindsey Graham

Graham needs to go into seclusion at Mepkin Abbey in Monck’s Corner, SC.
Maybe he can find an iota of integrity in the silence.

South Carolina

As far as I’m concerned, South Carolina has been under a state of emergency forever because of various things.
I have been witness to a lot of it unfortunately.

Lindsey Graham

The consensus across the political spectrum in SC is that Lindsey is being blackmailed. Something made him do a 180. I have never liked his politics but I never thought he was this craven. This is out of character for him. Ppl are talking and these are people who have known him for a long time.

Lindsey’s parents died when he was younger. He adopted his little sister and raised her. Then he joined the AF became a JAG and this gave him time to finish college, get a law degree and take care of her. Then he fulfilled his AF commitment.

I don’t know what is going on, but Graham may trying to be signal that something is very wrong by acting so differently. Don’t write this off and put it down to him having a change of heart and agreeing with Trump. Lindsey does not have a mean bone in his body. Trump is 100% mean and nasty.

I don’t think his being gay is a factor. It is an open secret and he has been elected anyway. This is drawing attention down here because this is so out of character.

Bizarro World

There are many oddities that have appeared in the age of Trump. I will mention two of them here.
I have found myself allied with people that I used to bitch at all the time. I had major differences with them on policies. Those differences have not disappeared. When the time comes that policy once again takes center stage, I know we will be back to bitching.
There have been different policies that Trump has altered, but his “new” ideas are extreme in many ways and they have not enticed these anti-Trumpers to support them. One idea is the use of tariffs. He has zero clue about trade in the modern world and he blunders on. He does not care if he hurts Americans. Somewhere there is a link that will allow him to profit off of it. It could be a change to satisfy Putin but I think that he has to be making $$$ somehow too.

The second oddity to me is the actions of the print media and what stories they emphasize. Most of them have been worthless and a lot of them have added to the damage.
There are a few news sources here and there that have stepped up. They may only have gotten local attention but they are trying. The one source that has surprised me is “Teen Vogue.” They have printed well-sourced stories about many important issues that others have ignored. They have done this from the beginning and have been a reliable ally for the Resistance.
They still print what usually passes for Teen Vogue stories. However, they have not been shy about expanding their mandate to include just about any idea. I will remember them an their efforts.

Trump has been effectively opposed by sex workers who won’t be silenced and their lawyers. To me the official publication of the opposition to Trumpkins is one that was written for teenagers that has taken on important issues and filled a void.

What a world. I think we are crossing back and forth between dimensions. The last time this occurred was during the Sixties. I have had enough of breaking new historical ground thank you very much. I can say that it has not been dull.

Omarosa and Jose Canseco

Jose Canseco played for the Oakland A’s and the NY Yankees. If you look at his early career, he was a very good player. He later became somewhat of a joke to many.

Canseco admitted to using PEDs and wrote an exposé. This was before it all blew up in MLB’s face. People laughed him off and pooh-poohed his book.

Turns out he was right all along about PED use. The message was disregarded because of the messenger.

Omarosa is a singularly loathesome person for many reasons. That doesn’t mean she has not given a true description of what she saw and heard. I won’t claim her stories are 100% true but I would not be surprised if she is vindicated about them in the future.

I am not gonna spend my time on her claims except for this post. She is another irritant poking Trump who cannot control himself.

I have no idea what Avenatti is up to. Delusions of grandeur.? I’m not going to worry about it now.

I am also not going to badmouth him. There will be plenty of time to sort out his machinations.

For weeks he was the only one taking on Trump and getting traction in the news. He did not let up. Because of that, Trump may have tweeted things that will come back to haunt him. He kept Stormy Daniels and Trump’s sordid behavior out front.

Sure he was advocating for his client. However, he hit Trump where it hurt and his transgressions do not play well and add to the impetus for a blue wave. And Trump seemed to shy from attacking him. Hmmmmm......

EVERY single person running who does not support Trump,

better be excoriating him 24/7. That better be a loud part of the message.

If they campaign against their ooponents too, then so be it. They can bring up issues and go to town.

HOWEVER, the person that lead this country who is the the most dangerous ever to lead this country and the minions who support him ARE THE ENEMY not your opponent.
This literally may be the most important election ever held in this country in 2018.

Your opponent may be the most dangeous to your ambitions but if you are scorching the earth and making everyone running damaged goods, you can go to hell.

This IS NOT an opportunity for you to beat down everyone else in your way to get a seat.
Keep it civil or shut the hell up.

Ok DU peeps. Time out for a natue question.

Why would all the birds that used my feeders just disappear? Only one hummingbird has been around.
Until 2 days ago I was seeing sparrows, finches, cardinals, chickadees, wrens, titmouses, doves and prolly more.
Is this an omen?
