Trump says he is 'saving' Barrett for Ginsburg seat

President Trump has reportedly said he is "saving" Judge Amy Barrett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court, according to Axios.

Barrett was a popular choice among conservative activists as a candidate to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy before Trump eventually nominated Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Axios reported that Trump has made clear his desire to replace Ginsburg with Barrett since Kennedy’s decision to retire, telling people on separate occasions, "I'm saving her for Ginsburg."

Trump also opted against nominating Barrett over concerns that her opposition to abortion rights would lead Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) to vote against her, according to the news outlet. Aides were reportedly confident enough Republicans would gain Senate seats in the 2018 midterms that they decided a more conservative nominee would stand a better chance of confirmation after the elections.

Mussolini granddaughter defends Trump in attack on Jim Carrey over Twitter post about 'fascism'

In a series of tweets on Sunday morning, the granddaughter of Italian strongman Benito Mussolini lashed out at actor Jim Carrey over a Twitter post about fascism which led to her later coming to the defense of President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, the comedian — who is also known for his blunt artwork — posted an illustraion he made of the Mussolini and his mistress Claretta hanging from their heels after he was deposed following World War II, with the caption: “If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.”

This apparently infuriated his granddaughter Alessandra Mussolini — now an Italian politician — who lashed out at Carrey on Twitter with a series of tweets about American atrocities.

She later tweeted at Trump — tagging him in the post — writing, “President @realDonaldTrump doesn’t have to worry about poor @JimCarrey politica attacks; his drawings are only dirty paper.”

Poll shows Warren, MI's pro-Trump Mayor is hemorrhaging support ahead of election

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts has been so popular that he won his past two elections with more than 80 percent of the vote – the largest margins of victory in the city’s history.

But a new poll obtained by Metro Times shows Fouts, who has been plagued by scandals and allegations of racism, is shedding support as he vies for a fourth term in the nonpartisan election in November.

The poll conducted this month by the independent Ross Group Research asked more than 300 likely voters whom they would support in a theoretical race between Fouts and former state Sen. Steve Bieda, a popular Democrat who’s considering challenging the embattled mayor.

Of those polled, 37.8 percent said they would vote for Fouts, while 29.6 percent would cast a ballot for Bieda. With a margin of error of 5.6 percent, Bieda is well within striking distance.

Perhaps most insightful, though, was that a third of those polled said they are undecided.

Flores: Politics was 'impetus' for Biden allegation

Former Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores says "politics was definitely the impetus" for her accusation of "inappropriate" conduct against then-Vice President Joe Biden, when asked about her response to people saying that her accusation is politically-motivated.

Elizabeth Warren's finance director leaving campaign

(CNN)Michael Pratt, Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren's finance director, is in the process of leaving Warren's presidential campaign as a result of the senator's recent decision to swear off soliciting money from wealthy donors during the primaries, according to a Warren campaign aide.

The aide told CNN Sunday morning that Pratt was "still a consultant but winding things down and transitioning out since we made the decision not to have (Warren) do high dollar events."
News of the departure came at the close of the first quarter fundraising deadline. In the coming days, a more complete picture of the Warren campaign's fundraising efforts is expected to come into focus. Her team has so far not released any early fundraising numbers, raising speculation that she is lagging behind her competitors.
The New York Times reported Sunday that Pratt resigned after a Valentine's Day meeting in Washington that eventually "grew heated," in which Pratt "noted that campaigns often collapse when they run out of money and pleaded with her not to cut off a significant cash stream."
"He pointed out that winning over wealthy fund-raisers across the country helped build networks that could translate into political support, not just checks," the Times said. "But Mr. Pratt lost the argument to two of Ms. Warren's closest advisers, Dan Geldon and Joe Rospars, who made the case about standing apart from the field and freeing up her schedule."

Sword-wielder in 'MAGA' hat slashes man outside San Francisco roller rink, police say

A sword-wielding assailant wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat slashed a man in the hand during an altercation outside a popular roller-skating rink in San Francisco’s Western Addition on Friday, officials said.

Police are searching for the attacker, who fled the scene outside the Church of 8 Wheels on Fillmore and Fell streets, leaving his victim bleeding profusely on the sidewalk outside the crowded skating spot.

Investigators were searching for security video and speaking to witnesses Saturday as they tried to piece together the details of the bloody confrontation that unfolded during the rink’s Friday night adults-only roller disco.

Officers were called to the scene around 9:50 p.m. on the report of a stabbing, said Officer Robert Rueca, a San Francisco police spokesman. They learned that the victim, whose name was not released, had been approached by another man, who was wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, and the two got into a verbal dispute, he said.

The victim tried to grab the hat, a symbol of President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, and the other man whipped out a sword and slashed him, Rueca said. Police originally reported that the victim was wearing the hat, but changed their statement late Saturday.

Scott Sweeney, 24, said he saw a man wearing the recognizable hat with a sword tucked into the back of his jacket about 30 minutes before the attack. The man, Sweeney said, was shouting homophobic slurs at him.
