Carmelo Anthony Makes Public Stance Against Police Brutality

Carmelo Anthony has joined the small ranks of sports stars to speak out against the heinous acts of police brutality that have occurred within the last week — followed by an act of terror against police in Dallas, Texas.

Whereas many athletes have been slow to speak, Carmelo is calling on his fellow sportsmen to stand up and rise together to use their recognition and influence to denounce what’s happening and work toward solutions. He shared a photo of Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and Lew Alcindor seated together the Ali Summit 45 years ago along with the following statement to his Instagram account on Friday:

This photo: UPDATED WITH MORE INFO

?1468180530

It is a remarkable picture. A single woman stands in the roadway, feet firmly planted. She poses no obvious threat. She is there to protest the excessive force which Baton Rouge police allegedly deploy against the city’s black citizens. She stands in front of police headquarters, on Saturday. And she is being hauled away by officers who look better prepared for a war than a peaceful protest.

There are images that are impossible to forget, searing themselves into our collective consciousness. One man staring down a column of tanks in Tiananmen Square. A high school student attacked by police dogs in Birmingham, Alabama. This is such a photo.

Once seen, it cannot be unseen.

The Baton Rouge police department lists the virtues it seeks to instill in its officers. Protection. Obligation. Leadership. Integrity. Courage. Excellence. I wonder what these officers thought about as they hauled her away.

powerful!!!!

UPDATE;

As some demonstrators moved and others yelled at officers, one woman stood silently on the roadway and resolutely refused to budge.

“I photographed someone arguing with an officer and then I looked over my shoulder and saw her there and she had every intention of not moving,” he said. “She just stood there and made her stand. I was just happy to be able to capture something like that.”

The woman was quickly detained, Bachman said, but when he checked his camera he knew had captured a remarkable photo of her defiant act of peaceful civil disobedience.

“She was there, she wasn’t resisting, and she had every intention of not moving.

Kansas cop gets fired for sickening, random online attack against black woman’s child in aftermath

of Dallas shootings.

A white Kansas cop who threatened a random black woman’s young daughter over Facebook amidst racial tensions between police and civilians has been fired. Rodney Lee Wilson, who had been an officer with Overland Park Police Department for more than a year, lashed out at LaNaydra Williams online, despite no obvious connection between the two.

Having found pictures of Williams’ five-year-old daughter India visible on her Facebook profile, Lee launched an astonishing rant in which he appeared to threaten the girl’s life.

Referencing the Black Lives Matter movement, Lee wrote: ‘We’ll see how much her life matters soon… better be careful leaving your info in the open where she can be found.

‘Hold her close tonight, it’ll be the last time.’

....Williams added that she has never been to Overland Park, has no connection to Kansas, and has no idea how Wilson found her Facebook page.

She also claims that after contacting Williams’ superiors she was initially told that his account had been hacked, despite the post being deleted.

However, the police later backtracked, confessed that Wilson had been behind the message, and dismissed him from duty.

Speaking to KSHB.com she added: ‘I felt horrified because I don’t know these people. And then when I click on they guy’s, Rodney Lee’s, picture I see he’s a cop.

‘Hit the ground!’: Trump supporter pulls gun on Black Lives Matter rally in Portland

...Strickland held a tripod-mounted video camera in his left hand. His right hand grabbed near his waistband.

Seconds later, facing the crowd, he pulled a Glock 27 from a holster on his right side. Assuming a wide stance and grasping the gun with both hands, he swung it from side to side, bellowing, “Back off!”

Kerensa claims, “Strickland takes pictures of women and minorities, puts them online with their names and addresses. He stalks them and harasses them.”

Kerensa said before anyone reached him, Strickland put his hand on his gun, which had been hidden under a rain jacket.

“He swept the crowd a few times with the gun,” said Kerensa. “I saw him take out the regular clip and slot in an extra-capacity magazine. I saw him chamber a round.”

For a moment, it seemed he might open fire as protesters scrambled away and two journalists sprinted toward him.

Strickland alleges he was shoved before he reached for his gun and repeatedly stated, “I feared for my life, that’s why I pulled out my gun.” Kerensa disputed that, claiming no one touched him before, and that he was only lightly pushed away after he grabbed the gun.

When reporters caught up with Strickland, he appeared panicked. The gun was still visible, and at least five rows of bullets could be counted in the magazine sticking out of the gun’s handle in the magazine. Strickland said they were 9mm bullets.

Bernie Sanders on Chris Hayes confirms...

talks about possible endorsement...

Bernie Sanders confirmed on Wednesday night that he is in discussions with the Hillary Clinton campaign about a potential endorsement of her candidacy, adding that he anticipates a “coming together” of the two campaigns.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “All In With Chris Hayes,” Sanders was pointedly asked whether mounting reports that he is finally getting ready to endorse his longstanding Democratic primary rival had any validity.

“You’re not denying the report that there are talks about a possible endorsement?” Hayes asked.

Sanders replied: “That’s correct.”
