Betty White on Craig Ferguson

She was so incredibly funny. This one really tickles my funny bone!

Saw a first today - a Jill Stein 2016 bumper sticker

Ahead of me driving through town.

And in a "you can't make this up" kinda moment, when two of the lanes of traffic stopped for some pedestrians, she (in lane #3) just blew right through the intersection. Nearly hit an elderly man.

Selfish doesn't even begin to explain this.

And, after the last administration, wouldn't you be embarrassed to still have that on your car?

Tony Bennett concert

Anybody watching? He is still so cool! 95 years old. Still a jazz master. I'm not a Lady Gaga fan, but he is wonderful!

Arbery's Killers Question

Does anyone know if the three of them were sent to jail after the trial?

Or were they allowed to go home prior to sentencing and pending appeal?

Had my very own Covidiot encounter today

Went down to Subway to grab sandwiches to take into the park for lunch. It's been rainy and cold for the past few weeks - today it's glorious!

Anyway, as I was leaving (properly masked of course) a woman came to the door with two huge dogs. She called out to the woman behind the counter -

"I called your corporate office and they said it was OK for me to bring my dogs in."

These were definitely not service dogs.

The Subway worker told her no. No dogs on the premises.

She stood there in the doorway (unmasked) as I was trying to leave and she gestured for me to pass by her. I stepped back and told her I wanted to maintain 6 feet distance between us. She snarled at me, but backed away. I explained that I have to be careful because I'm medically fragile (only a small fib there).

As I walked down the stairs to the car, she yelled at me that Covid is a hoax and it's all fake.

But tying up her dogs to the railing, she insisted that she still wanted to get a sandwich.

Sheesh.

I feel sorry for the dogs.

Finally! Surgery tomorrow!

My procedure which was scheduled for August 6 was deemed "elective", so it was cancelled because our hospitals were slammed with Covidiots.

So, finally, tomorrow I will march myself into the hospital and get this damn thing taken care of. There are still a lot of Covid patients in there, so my daughter will just drop me off.

Could use some healing thoughts from my DU friends. Thanks. I'll check back in on the other side.

A Wonderful Novel To Recommend!

The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, a delightful queer writer.

It's the most beautiful love story with magical children.

My daughter gave it to me and I read it in just a few days.

(Not sure if this post belongs here or in the Lounge.)

If you are looking for a fun book during these cold blustery days, this is a good one. And another reminder that love is love.

Statement from the 1/6 Commission Re: Subpoenas

"While Mr. Meadows and Mr. Patel are, so far, engaging with the Select Committee, Mr. Bannon has indicated that he will try to hide behind vague references to privileges of the former President. The Select Committee fully expects all of these witnesses to comply with our demands for both documents and deposition testimony.

Though the Select Committee welcomes good-faith engagement with witnesses seeking to cooperate with our investigation, we will not allow any witness to defy a lawful subpoena or attempt to run out the clock, and we will swiftly consider advancing a criminal contempt of Congress referral.

We thank those many patriotic Americans who are coming forward voluntarily to participate in our inquiry. The Committee is making rapid progress and will not be deterred by those who seek to obstruct our efforts."

Apparently Scavino is still hiding out, but Bannon just might be in a heap 'o trouble!

Do you want to know what happens to you on a ventilator?

Warning. This is grim. Front page article of our local paper yesterday.

https://www.mailtribune.com/top-stories/2021/08/20/icu-nurses-describe-battle-against-covid-19/

We all hear about people being put on ventilators when they can't breathe. I had no idea how horrible it is and what it does to a person's body.

I'm in Southern Oregon and our county is being slammed by Covid cases. Only 46% vaccinated so far. Hopefully if enough people read this article, they might consider getting the shots.

Tomorrow is going to be a very good day!

We are giving our old car to a family in need.

My Dad bought this Volvo 240 Station Wagon in 1990. He loved that car. Mom loved it too because it had air conditioning. Both of them died in 2008 and we inherited the Volvo. My older daughter started driving him (now named Charlie) to school. Her friends made fun of the mom-mobile, but she didn't care. She had wheels and they didn't. Then younger sister took it over when she started driving. Now they're both grown and gone and the Volvo hasn't had much love lately. We are retired and don't need two cars.

Last September, there was a horrible wild fire in our area that burned homes, vehicles, and businesses through four towns. Terrible. A local group rented a store front for donations for the fire victims - they needed absolutely everything. Anyway, we decided that Charlie needed to go to a new home. So we cleaned him up, got him a tune-up, and renewed the two year DMV registration.

Tomorrow morning, we will drive him to the family and turn over the keys. With all of the ugliness around us, sometimes it just feels good to do something kind.
