Tears of faith in humanity.

Not sure that's a real thing, but that's what I shed after reading a few of these.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. If you're alone, no you aren't.

Human random (and occasionally beautiful) acts of kindness:

H&M Needs a Geography Lesson

How does this shit even happen??

http://chicagoist.com/2013/11/22/one_shot_hm_needs_a_geography_lesso.php

Edit for text for sufferers of clickophobia:

That is Willis (Sears) Tower to the left of the topless woman in the image, which is definitely not in Los Angeles. Rost is right: H&M does need a geography lesson. Lucky for them they should have this corrected in time before people who bought these shirts need to replace them when the originals fall apart after three to four washes.

To Rec or Not to Rec...that is the answer

I just tried to 'rec' a reply to an OP. Once again, I was frustrated at the inability to do so. But, it got me thinking.

We don't 'rec' much here in The Lounge. I often thought that was odd, but then the other voice in my head said that it was possibly a good thing. There is no competition in here. Out 'there' we fight for acknowledgement of our thoughts and rants, here...it's all about toilet humor and kitties. You can't pit those two categories against each other for mere points. They're both very personal and no amount of recs or no recs can change that.

Once again, Lounge, you set the standard for which all of DU should aspire to. That sentence is awful, but it's almost the end of the day and I'm not going to attempt to make it better.

Cheerio and hip hip. (Or, is that 'pip pip'?)

P.S. I will still continue to 'rec' Lounge posts, if only to be that silent voice. A whisper in the abyss. A number...just a number. I can't wait to go home.

I apologize for the evil I have unleashed upon the world.

My son posted this in response to my post calling him and my husband grinches.

Santa is an un-healthy criminal! Breaks into yer house and steals milk and cookies, and then leaves either gifts or coal dependent on your behavior for the year, like its ok to break into someone's home at night while they sleep, steal shit but leave something in it's stead! Then all those milk and cookies he eats has got to be makin him diabetic after all these years! Only a matter of time before the fat jolly bastard loses a foot! And why should the poor kids that hadn't been raised right get coal!? Its not their fault they dont know better! How about getting the parents audited by the irs!? Fitting punishment for bad parenting i think!

I'm so sorry.
In my defense, he did spend 9 years in the Marine Corps, so they're partially to blame.

Dear Santa, if you're reading this, he really is a good kid. He's an amazing husband and the best son anyone could ask for. He apparently just thinks your way of doing things is suspect. Oh, and that you should go on a diet.

This made me sad.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12594057

I have this visual of Elad stuck in a cellar somewhere with a bunch of computers buzzing around him, a single bare bulb above his head and only one lump of coal to make it through the winter.

Skinner is hiding something. We, need to start a movement! FREE ELAD!!! He needs a voice and we shall be that voice!!!

POWER TO THE COMPUTER GEEKS!!!! <---- last known pic of Elad before he was banished to 'the other side of the country'.

Damnit.

I'm just stunned.

Time to repeat what I've been saying since I came here:

This place is 99% awesome. The other 1% can be a real drag, if you let it. There are DUers that I don't always agree with. Some just plain annoy me. I have options. I can ignore them (which I don't do), I can skip over their threads/replies (I do often), I can try to see their point of view (I do my best), or I can appreciate the fact that no matter how we go about things, we're all on the same side.

The funny thing is, I got into a pretty heated battle with a DUer a couple years back. It was as close as I've come to ignoring someone. And then, I noticed that I had actually recced a few of his threads and we had made a few positive remarks to each other over the years. Well...w..t..f? I guess one damned encounter wasn't enough to judge him by. I still don't agree with all he says, but I do occasionally chuckle at his comments and agree with others.

The Lounge is where it happens, folks. This is where we put down the gloves and share our laughs and tears. We somehow forget that someone irritated the crap out of us in GD and let them entertain us with corny jokes or cat pics. We've been accused of cliquishness here, but we're the most mismatched and dysfunctional (in a good way) people on DU and I have yet to see anyone locked out (well, without good reason).

Never forget how to laugh, to forgive, to share, to encourage, to forever celebrate life and the dirty water of The Lounge hot tub.

Love all y'all.

Take care T.

It's my bday...

...my last year as a '40 sumthin'. No, I don't want wishes of a happy birthday. The only thing that will give me a happy birthday* is a BEARS WIN, tonite.

So, in honor of me...I want you all to say a little prayer to the Football Gods. My QB is out for at least 2 more weeks, Briggs is out, we're hurtin' bad. Our chances of winning against the Packers ( ) are slim, but with your prayers we could do it! (Need to keep McGown from wetting his pants every time their defense gets within 5 yards.)

I need this, guys. Need it bad. One of my favorite people in the world was born/raised/still lives in Milwaukee. She can be a real pain in the ass when the Packers beat the Bears. Did I mention it's my bday? Yeah. Pray for us.

*When I say that, I don't 'really' mean it. It'll be pretty awesome, no matter what. The husband bought me a PS3 for our Anniversary/my bday. He's stopping on the way home to pick up dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant. I have ice cream and apple pie waiting for me at home. The enormous charity job I've been working on is <this> close to being approved for printing. But, hey...a Bears win against the Packjerks, especially in their own home field...would be the freakin' icing on the cake.

Our Papa, Who art a bear, Halas be thy name, Thy championship Come, Thy Play Will be run, At home as it is away. Give us this day our Sunday win, And forgive us our turnovers, Though we pounce on those who turnover against us, And lead us not into fourth & long, In the name of Ditka, Butkus & the Holy Payton, as it was in 1985, so shall it be in 2013 reign without end. Go Bears!

I wish I could rec AtA posts. Instead, I'll just give you this:

I agree with grantcart

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12593610

He mentioned 'temporary'...maybe 1 year? Though we have the information in GD and possibly the Health Group, labeling a separate ACA Group would be a quicker way for people to find information, share experiences, provide helpful links, etc., without getting buried in other threads. Granted, it may not receive a ton of traffic, but as a quickie go to group I think it could be helpful. Probably more helpful once I can get freakin' in. I know, patience is a virtue.
