Thank you, DU.

I normally don't announce where I live, but today I need to. I need to tell you what a beautiful place DU is.

I live in Prescott, Arizona. Home of the Hot Shot crew that was lost in Yarnell yesterday.

I wish I could share your thoughts and prayers with the entire city, with the families and friends of the crew. So many of you live so far away, and we can all agree that Arizona has it's share of difficulties. Prescott is one of, if not the, reddest part of Arizona. And, yet, you're love and compassion is offered.

I needed you so much this morning. I'm at work, in tears. The entire town is in shock. If you live here, there's a good chance you know one of them or know someone from their family.

Thank you for being here.

Edit: My husband just posted this poem that a friend of his wrote.

I SAW YOU UP THE MOUNTAIN
by Gordon Campbell

I saw you up the mountain,
Walking through the haze,
In sooted turnouts dusty yellow,
Cast dark against the blaze.
I’m sure I did. You can’t be missed!
You are someone I know.
One I’ll never fail to see,
Where ever I must go.

It was where I fought beside you,
And then cried as you were lost.
Right there beside the memory,
Of what our fight has cost.
I know that’s where I saw you,
And it’s where I see you still,
All double-time and courage,
As we charge another hill.

I saw you at the base camp
With your cup, and yes, a joke,
And the rasping of your laughter,
Meant to wash away the smoke.
You were with me in the chow line
At the table saying grace
And I prayed like anything
“Just once, Lord, let me see that face.”

I saw you up the mountain,
And I’ll see you there again,
And in every place they send me,
Where the fire is, and then,
I’ll watch the plume rise upward,
As it lilts from star to star
Outward past heaven’s wild lands,
To where you really are.

This poem dedicated to the memory of all those heroes lost while fighting America's wild fires.

Desperate Divorcees.

Why do so many of them think that the guy's wife they're flirting with won't punch them in the face?

And, when you get to the age of 50, shouldn't you be independent enough not to need to chase after men?

/sigh On a different note, I'm making a vegetarian dinner tonite. The husband will either starve to death or leave me. The recipe looked too friggin' good and easy enough to make after work. I'm sorta excited. It has nothing to do with the fact that I had to eat fast food for lunch and it made me wanna puke.

Yes, we have an abundance of cowbell...

...what we need is MORE HARMONICA!!!

We need a list. I'll start.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/12592223

1. We have pizza and cookies. Sometimes In_The_Wind brings Pizza Cookies, which cause people to start threads about bodily functions.

2. We can settle our own issues without calling each other dumbass...oh...wait. Nevermind.

3. NO POLITICS! NO DRAMA!

The horn doesn't work in my car.

It's actually a curse. Out of all the cars I've owned, only two have had functional horns.

Today I wish it worked. Not because of the usual 'get the fuck out of my way' reason. But, because as I was sitting at the intersection that led up to where the fire is burning, two 'Wildfire Response Team' trucks drove by. I wanted to let them know I saw them, I cared, and I appreciated the risks they were taking.

Firefighters and Hot Shots fucking rule.

My town is on fire.

The husband just posted this of our backyard.

The mountain you see is Granite Mountain, about 4 miles from my backyard. I wanna go home, now. My cats gotta be freakin' because of the smoke.

Lots of friends up in that area, people with livestock/horses. This sucks. We made it through last year with no major fires in the immediate area.

If you live in any dry areas, take precautions now. Have an escape plan. Talk to friends/neighbors in the area that could grab your pets if you're at work. Have someone out of state with alternate contact information to find out if you're okay. Clear your brush! Check your outside hoses in case you have to wet it down and evacuate.

Anyway, because I'm not one to ever give up and hate serious crap:

There is no appropriate smilie for the statement...

..."I feel like ass".

For reference: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1018&pid=410419

Please address this issue ASAP, as I feel that I will be needing this on a regular basis for the next week or so.

Sometimes the 'Rec' button makes me feel dirty.

The majority of the time, when I hit that Rec button, it's because I 'like' the thread. But there are others, like this one:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022957451

I don't 'like' it, but felt that it should be recced for obvious reason. But, I feel like I'm agreeing with the verdict by 'reccing'.

Let me explain, someone in the Lounge says, "It's my bday, ask me anything!" Easy rec. On the other hand, "My mom is in the hospital and may never come home"...is a wtf do I do 'rec'.

I would like a separate 'Like' button from the 'Rec' button, please. Just to ease my guilt-ridden mind. It will also save me time. You have no idea how long I can stare at the button trying to decide if a 'rec' is appropriate or not.

I know. I over think stuff and should probably relax. But, in my brain, this is pretty serious.
