"Local Food Vendors Coming To The Field Museum"

I know this sounds 'local', but I wanted to know if any of you people out there know of other museums/similar doing this? I think it's a fantastic idea. Adds a little style and interest to eating at the museum. The Field Museum was never known for their food.

http://chicagoist.com/2013/08/28/local_food_comes_to_the_field_museu.php

The main floor restaurant will be The Field Bistro, which will serve seasonal food made with local ingredients, as well as beer and wine. The McDonald's downstairs will be replaced with the Explorer Cafe, a "family-friendly" restaurant that we bet any amount of money will have chicken fingers on the menu.
It's good to see the Field aligning its food politics with its institutional politics. The museum has participated in a number of green initiatives, most notably the organic garden run by museum staff, and this educational process can now extend into their restaurants. Plus, the food can only get better than what it is now.

There are a bunch of old musicians...

...crying over 'music today' on my FB.

It's like a 30 year flashback, listening to my father whine about the 'music today'.

I'm damn near 50 and I can honestly say there's a lot of good music out today. Queue bluesbassman saying, "No good music has come out since 1971."

First World Problems and why my day just sucks monkey ass.

I have a client the I adore. He's sweet, doesn't complain, has a great sense of humor.
He has a wife that is cute as a freakin' bug and she became a client, too.
"Oh! You do hair! My stylist moved to Florida. Let me make an appointment."

That was about 4 months ago. Went to her, she didn't do what I asked, but it was acceptable.
Went again today with new pictures that I hoped would get across what I wanted more clearly.
It's awful.

Did I say that she and her husband are clients? Good ones? Yeah. I'm stuck with her and her awful hair cutting skills.

I was starving when I left. Nothing to bring for lunch, so stuck with fast food. Ran through the Arby's drive-thru just to get a small 'beef' sandwich. GROSS! GROSS! GROSS!!!1! I now have a stomach ache and will probably not be able to get that disgusting taste out of my mouth for 3 days.

THEN!!! The husband's drummer posted a reminder on FB: "We'll be playing at 'Shithole Bar' Friday! (not the real name of the bar) Me: "Wait, the husband said you were playing at 'Fun, Fun Bar with Awesome Bartender'?" (not the real name of the bar).
Nope, apparently the husband has once again proven that he can't remember shit and just because the two bars are next door to each other the names are interchangeable.

So, my fun, fun weekend just crashed and burned. I have a crappy haircut that makes me look like a redheaded chipmunk. And, I have stomach ache and a taste in my mouth that makes me think they use used gym socks for seasoning at Arby's.

Hold me.

Visa Gift Cards...experiences?

My DIL's bday is coming up. They just moved to MO and she's never been through a real winter before. I wanted to give her a gift card so she could get herself some warm clothes (it's a little like hell trying to get her to wear a sweater). I thought about getting her a store gift card, but figured it would be too limiting.

I've received them, but never given them. Pros? Cons? Better ideas?

Woman helps girl, 12, elude abductor: 'She didn't have to do what she did' - Chicago Tribune

Ms. Brewer is a brave woman. We need more. But, what really struck me about this story is Reniah's words, "She didn't have to do what she did." It made me sad and I couldn't figure out why. I thought about it and all I can come up with is, this young lady has already become jaded. She doesn't expect kindness from strangers. No, Ms. Brewer didn't have to do what she did. Keeping that young lady safe was the best part, but something else happened. That young lady got a glimpse of what humanity should be. Maybe that little glimpse will make her hungry for more. I'm so glad she's safe.

Damn, DU is ugly today.

Glad I was too busy at work to pay much attention.

I'm going home in 1 hour and 4 minutes. I plan on relaxing, not reading DU or any other newsish sort of stuff, playing some computer games, trying a new salmon recipe with avocado sauce, playing with my cats, having a conversation with the husband, and then going to sleep.

Icky, crappy day all around. Plus, I miss my son and DIL. This is going to be a lot tougher than I thought.
