Anthony Bourdain to open giant Blade Runner-themed food market in New York City

Hidden throughout New York City are bustling food halls like Gansevoort Market or Smorgasburg. But for those who ever said, “I had in mind something a little more radical,” Anthony Bourdain has the solution. The celebrity chef will soon open a 100,000-square-foot International Food Market at the newly renovated SuperPier on Pier 57. Oh, and did I mention it’s inspired by Blade Runner?

Yes, the chaos and clamor of the market place from Ridley Scott’s dystopian masterpiece will be coming to Manhattan’s West Side. “It is meant to be crowded and chaotic because that’s what hawker centres should be,” said Bourdain’s partner Stephen Wether at the 2015 World Street Food Congress in Singapore. “It should activate all of your senses.”

Plans for the space, which eats up pretty much all of the SuperPier’s retail allotment, include a farmers market, hawker-style street food stalls, a 1,500-square-foot oyster bar, a bakery, butchers, a tapas bar, a tea shop, a pastry shop, and potentially even an outdoor Asian-themed beer garden. As Bourdain put it, foodies will be able to enjoy “expertly sliced Iberico ham and some Cava or Kuching-style laksa [soup], Chinese lamb noodles, Vietnamese pho or a decent barbecue brisket all in one place.”

“It’s a bit more chaotic than how the hawkers markets are organized [in Singapore],” Wether said. “Hopefully, it will be as crowded and popular. But it is supposed to be a mash-up of foods, styles, smells, tastes and visuals.”

Exclusive - Top reason Americans will vote for Trump: "To stop Clinton" - Reuters poll

The U.S. presidential election may turn out to be one of the world's biggest un-popularity contests.

Nearly half of American voters who support either Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Donald Trump for the White House said they will mainly be trying to block the other side from winning, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday.

The results reflect a deepening ideological divide in the United States, where people are becoming increasingly fearful of the opposing party, a feeling worsened by the likely matchup between the New York real estate tycoon and the former first lady, said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.
"This phenomenon is called negative partisanship," Sabato said. "If we were trying to maximize the effect, we couldn't have found better nominees than Trump and Clinton."

Trump has won passionate supporters and vitriolic detractors for his blunt talk and hardline proposals, including his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, his vow to force Mexico to pay for a border wall, and his promise to renegotiate international trade deals.

Christians can’t wait for God to punish ‘wicked’ America with Trump–and usher in the Apocalypse

Christians who claimed months ago that Donald Trump was foretold in Biblical prophecy must be feeling prescient today. Worrying in 2015 that Trump would be a major party nominee was treated as being about as likely as the 5000-1 odds that bookies gave Leicester City at the beginning of the 2015-16 season. But this week, as both unlikely predictions came to pass, it seems prudent to take a look at just what it is that those eschatologists claim to see.

Historical lists of those who have predicted either that God would destroy the world as punishment for collective sins or those who have used formulae to predict that people should circle specific days on their calendar is far too long to list here. (Wikipedia has one such list.)

Specific individuals who were seen as catalysts for the end have included Ronald Reagan, various popes, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Barack Obama–although even Richard the Lionheart was implicated back in the 13th century by Joachim of Fiore.

Joachim is often credited as being the first eschatologist to cause major upset in Christendom with his predictions. Joachim used a complex formula that counted the number of generations in the Bible before and after the birth of Christ (BCE or CE), combined them with the detailing of three ages of history until the end of the world, and came up with the period 1200 to 1260 CE as containing the fateful year.

NC Republicans vow to defy Obama order to fix anti-LGBT law: ‘We’re not going to get bullied’

North Carolina Republican lawmakers vowed to defy a federal order to repeal or stop enforcing a controversial anti-LGBT law.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday found the law violated the federal Civil Rights Act and Title IX, and officials ordered lawmakers to comply with those laws by next week or risk billions of dollars in federal education funding.

But House Speaker Tim Moore indicated Thursday that he and his fellow Republicans had no intention of meeting the federally mandated deadline, reported The News & Observer.

“We will take no action by Monday,” Moore said. “That deadline will come and go. We don’t ever want to lose any money, but we’re not going to get bullied by the Obama administration to take action prior to Monday’s date. That’s not how this works.”

Duggar cult founder plans Kansas ‘retreat’ to set up arranged marriages for teen girls

Trump-loving tow truck driver says God told him to leave disabled Bernie Sanders supporter stranded

South Carolina tow truck driver said God told him to leave a disabled Bernie Sanders supporter stranded along the interstate.

Cassy McWade was involved in a car crash near Asheville, North Carolina, and her family called their regular mechanic to drive 45 minutes north from his shop to haul her wrecked vehicle back for repairs, reported WHNS-TV.


Ken Shupe, owner of Shupee Max Towing, arrived about an hour later and began hooking McWade’s car up to his truck — until he spotted the Sanders campaign sticker on her bumper and the yard sign placed in her rear window.

“He goes around back and comes back and says, ‘I can’t tow you,'” McWade said. “My first instinct was there must be something wrong with the car, and he says, ‘No, you’re a Bernie supporter.’ And I was like, ‘Wait — really?’ And he says, ‘Yes ma’am,’ and just walks away.”

In any fight, you have three outcomes.

1. Your opponent kills you.

2. You kill your opponent

3. You kill each other.

So you already have shitty odds to start out with. A 1 in 3 chance of success. Training is everything and even then it may not be enough.

My sensei had a student, very hard to teach, a student who thought he knew it all and after a few lessons, he felt he could learn faster on his own.

Went out and bought a live katana (Sharp...Real sharp)

Was off practicing at his house doing his twirls and other Chanbara (samurai movie) stuff. All these twirls with three feet of razor blade in his hand.

He manages not to kill himself and then sheaths his sword at an off angle.

Problem is Scabbards (Saya) are made of cypress, a Japanese scabbard (Called a Saya) is nothing more a very dry wood meant to protect the blade. Not protect the person from the blade in any real way.

The sword goes in at an off angle out through the side of the scabbard and through his arm and artery.

The ONLY reason he didn't die was his wife was there in the house to take him to a hospital and he didn't pull the sword out. Had he done so he would have bled out in minutes.

People seriously think they are invincible.
