Maryland lawmaker proposes law to take food stamps from families of kids who protest
Republican Maryland state Delegate Patrick McDonough suggested this week that parents did not deserve to continue receiving food stamps if they refused to stop their children from protesting the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore.
In audio obtain by First Look’s Lee Fang, a caller on a Baltimore radio program asks McDonough why the government could not “take away benefits from families, from like the parents who are collecting welfare” if the protesters were “too young.”
“That’s an idea and that could be legislation,” McDonough volunteers. “I think that you could make the case that there is a failure to do proper parenting and allowing this stuff to happen, is there an opportunity for a month to take away your food stamps?”

McDonough goes on to say that a “scientific study” is needed to understand the mindset of “thug nation.”

Detroit prosecutor calls for deaths of Baltimore protesters: ‘Shoot em. Period. End of discussion’
A Detroit prosecutor suggested a violent solution to ending the protests in Baltimore over a black man’s death while in police custody.
Teana Walsh, an assistant prosecutor in Wayne County, posted this week on her Facebook account that demonstrators who committed acts of violence or vandalism should be shot, reported WJBK-TV.
“So I am watching the news in Baltimore and see large swarms of people throwing bricks, etc at police who are fleeing from their assaults,” Walsh posted.
“(Fifteen) in the hospital already,” she continued. “Solution. Simple. Shoot em. Period. End of discussion. I don’t care what causes the protestors to turn violent…what the ‘they did it because’ reason is…no way is this acceptable. Flipping disgusting.”
The assistant prosecutor made the post at 10:33 p.m. Monday but has since deleted it, but a local attorney who saw the post shared a photo of the remarks.

Morgan Freeman: Unrest in Baltimore exposed ‘the terrorism we suffer from the police’
Morgan Freeman supports the Baltimore protests sparked by the death of Freddie Gray and says technology is bringing to light “how dangerous police are.”
The Academy Award-winning actor spoke out on the subject in a Thursday morning interview with Newsweek.
“I was watching the news last night,” he said, “and [a protester] said, ‘You know, when we were out here marching peacefully, nobody was here. And now we start burning the place down, everybody is listening. What do you think we’re gonna do to be heard?’
“It’s like, hey, she’s got a point there,” Freeman said. Asked if he is supportive of the protestors, he replied, “Absolutely.”

Make it so!: NASA engineers say they successfully tested a real ‘warp drive
NASA has successfully tested a type of drive that could eventually take the concept of “warp drive” from science-fiction to reality, CNET reported.
The experiment, conducted at the Johnson Space Center in Texas, found that an electromagnetic drive, or “EMDrive,” was able to function in a vaccuum — something that even NASA has stated would defy the laws of motion.
The drive works by turning electrical energy into thrust without requiring standard fuel. The electricity is provided instead by solar energy.
According to NASASpaceFlight.com, an engineer with the propulsion research group NASA Eagleworks announced the successful test, touching off a far-reaching discussion about how the drive could violate the law of conservation of momentum, which states that a system’s momentum remains constant if it is not being affected by external forces.
While previous EMDrive experiments from researchers in the United Kingdom and China sparked criticism, NASASpaceFlight reported, the results of Eagleworks’ trial have not yet been debunked. If the drive becomes a reality, however, it could pose immediate benefits for the International Space Station.
