State to house sex offenders at Littlefield

AUSTIN — A long-running crisis over where to house Texas' most violent sex predators appeared solved Friday as officials announced they have contracted to house them at a long-vacant lockup in remote West Texas.

Marsha McLane, director of the Texas Civil Commitment Office, said Nashville-based Correct Care Recovery Solutions will house 190 offenders at the privately owned Billy Clayton Detention Center in Littlefield, about 36 miles northwest of Lubbock, starting Sept. 1.

-snip-

State officials had been scrambling for more than a year to find a place to house the offenders, all of them ex-convicts who had served their prison time for sex crimes but who continued to be held in custody because they had been deemed a continuing danger to society.

Halfway houses in Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth and El Paso that held most of them had demanded that state officials relocate the men by Aug. 31, because they needed the space for regular parolees and wanted to avoid getting drawn into growing litigation over the troubled program.

Watch: FOX News Hosts Give Women The Worst, Most Sexist Advice Ever

In this astonishing and disturbing clip, FOX News’s Andrea Tantaro, Stacey Dash and the rest of the gender-traitors on Outnumbered defend a grossly misogynistic article published in Glamour magazine. Tantaros happily condemns the role of modern women to one of servitude: “Oh please! Look at this list, it has great suggestions in here!” she raves. Her list of suggestion for wives to please their husbands sounds like it was written by frat boys: Make him a sandwich after sex! Bring him beer in the shower! Answer the door in your lingerie! Let him solve your petty work problems, because it makes him feel manly and silly women can’t make decisions for themselves!

She claims (although almost certainly does not) that she “is a very traditional old-fashioned girl and I do these things for my man. I do. And that’s why they are always smiling.”

It’s very difficult to hear such blatant appeals to patriarchal dominance as the Republican Party pushes forward bills to defund Planned Parenthood and give employers the ability to fire pregnant single mothers. The war on women is very real, and the hosts of Outnumbered are collaborators of the worst kind.

Texas A&M unveils plans for $360M, 3,400-bed Park West housing to be ready by fall 2017

COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M University System added a $360 million student housing project to a growing list of public-private partnerships Thursday with the unveiling of the 3,400-bed Park West development.

By leaving it up to private developers to foot the bill for constructing and managing the project, university and system officials said during the announcement at Rudder Tower that Park West, which will be ready for move-in by the 2017 fall semester, is projected to generate $600 million in revenue over the next 30 years to re-invest in the flagship school's academic and research missions. Texas A&M President Michael Young said Park West's location on a 55-acre plot between George Bush Drive, Penberthy Road, Luther Street and Marion Pugh Drive will enhance the student experience.

"As we see the university grow, as we see it become more of a destination school, the capacity to get our kids on campus creates that wonderful sense of community that's so important to see them grow intellectually and develop their skills and go out into the world and do the things that Aggies have been doing for well over 100 years is very important," Young said. "This project has very serious implications in that regard."

Park West is the system's fifth and largest public-private development, joining the White Creek Apartments, U Centre at Northgate, Easterwood Airport and Century Square projects. Officials said the five together could generate nearly $1 billion over each project's lifetime, with Park West accounting for most of that revenue.

Six stabbed at Jerusalem Pride

At least six people were stabbed today at Jerusalem’s Pride parade. One woman is in critical condition.

The person accused is a heredi, or Orthodox, man who staged a similar attack at Jerusalem Pride in 2005. He was recently released from prison.

While Pride in secular Tel Aviv in June attracts about 200,000 people annually, Pride in more religious Jerusalem remains controversial. But thousands of people participated in this year’s march that had heavy police protection.

Police quickly wrestled the man down, according to a report in HaAretz.

Texas Senate's Fetal Parts-Sale Hearing Was as Bizarre as You'd Expect

The point, if there was one, was to say the words "baby parts" as many times as possible, as if they were a mantra.

For four and a half hours Wednesday, the Texas Senate Committee on Health and Human Services solicited testimony about fetal tissue donation from anti-abortion activists, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and state health officials. They did not hear anything from Planned Parenthood, the women's health provider targeted in secretly filmed videos made by the Center for Medical Progress, a group that calls themselves citizen journalists but has deep ties to the most rabid and violent fringes of the anti-abortion movement.

CMP's heavily edited videos show Planned Parenthood executives discussing the elective process of fetal tissue donation. Potential reimbursements for transportation and storage costs are discussed, leading to the accusation gleefully leveled by CMP and others that Planned Parenthood is selling harvested fetuses for parts. Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Paxton have taken full political advantage of the videos, ordering investigations of any potential fetal tissue donation programs in Texas, despite the fact that no Planned Parenthood in Texas has participated in such a program in five years. That's not important, though, as Paxton said Friday in front of the committee. What's important is getting rid of legal abortion in Texas.

"The videos that have made all the headlines raise a large number of troubling allegations, allegations that — again — my office is aggressively investigating and we will go to any and all lawful lengths to get to the bottom of what has been happening. But more than any misdeeds involving the sale of aborted baby parts is this fundamental truth: the true abomination in all this is the institution of abortion," Paxton said. "Even if their body parts are never sold, or never used for research, for the babies who are killed in abortion clinics — more than 54,000 last year in Texas and more than 57 million in the United States since 1973 — their fate is a plastic bag in a refrigerator and anonymous disposal in an incinerator somewhere."

Slidell bandits scan, steal groceries at local Winn Dixie, Sheriff's Office says

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff' Office is seeking the public's help identifying two women who are accused of stealing groceries. The incident occurred at the Winn Dixie at 2985 E. Gause Blvd. in Slidell.

All told, the food bandits allegedly made off with $216.16 worth of groceries, the Sheriff's Office said. The theft occurred on July 4, the Sheriff's Office said, and the precise price was available because the women had actually scanned the items at checkout.

The heist involved quickly departing with the items after they were scanned and bagged, the sheriff's office said. After one of the thieves bolted with the grocery cart, the other remained behind trying "to pay with a faded and battered check," the Sheriff's Office said.

The machine declined such a payment.

Gov. Bobby Jindal: Treat mayors of “sanctuary cities” as accessories to illegal immigrants’ crimes

Gov. Bobby Jindal has called for Congress to pass laws declaring mayors of “sanctuary cities” accessories to crimes committed by undocumented immigrants and to subject municipal officials to civil lawsuits by victims of the crimes.

Jindal is a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

“My plan will hit these lawless city leaders where it hurts by holding them directly accountable for crimes,” Jindal said in a statement from his campaign. “If on their watch, an illegal immigrant breaks the law, we will count sanctuary city leaders as accessories and force them to pay for these crimes. Sanctuary city leaders are flouting the laws of the United States and that is unacceptable.”

Sanctuary cities have adopted policies to separate local law enforcement from the arrest and prosecution of illegal immigrants for violation of federal immigration laws. The issue has flared up after the murder this summer of a woman in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant.
