Ukrainian activist confronts Boris Johnson over West's failure to do more

ONDON — A Ukrainian activist berated British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday for not doing more to help her country and suggested the West could have taken tougher action against Russian oligarchs and imposed a no-fly zone over Ukraine to protect civilians from Russian bombs.

The powerful exchange, which quickly went viral, took place at a news conference in Warsaw, where Johnson held talks with the Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

She also suggested that Britain could do more to target Russian oligarchs who call London — sometimes dubbed “Londongrad” — home.

You’re talking about more sanctions, prime minister. But Roman Abramovich is not sanctioned. He is in London. His children are not in the bombardments. His children are there, in London,” Kaleniuk said. Johnson has pledged to crack down on “dirty money” in Britain, and the British government has frozen assets and imposed a travel ban on a handful of prominent Russian oligarchs

Russia Warns Kyiv Residents to Leave Homes Ahead of Bombing Blitz

he Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday warned Kyiv residents to leave their homes immediately as Russia's forces advanced on the Ukrainian capital and announced plans to bomb targets in the city. In a statement, Russia's Defense Ministry said the military intends to strike the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the 72nd Center for Information and Psychological Operations (PSO) in Kyiv.

"In order to thwart informational attacks against Russia, [Russian forces] will strike technological objects of the SBU and the 72nd Main PSO Center in Kyiv," the ministry said. "We urge Ukrainian citizens involved by Ukrainian nationalists in provocations against Russia, as well as Kyiv residents living near relay stations, to leave their homes." The United Nations Refugee Agency estimated Tuesday that roughly 660,000 people have fled Ukraine over the past six days.

"In any conflict it is always the most vulnerable people who are the worst affected," Oxfam International said in a statement Tuesday. "As conflict and its consequences ravage economies, it is people living in poverty, on both sides, who will lose their jobs and their access to services, and who will struggle most to cope with daily life. As ordinary men and women are pulled into a conflict they do not want, children and the elderly will be left without support."

Several WNBA players competing in Russia make plans to leave following invasion of Ukraine

Several WNBA players currently competing in Russia are making plans to leave the country as a safety precaution following the invasion of Ukraine, multiple agents told ESPN on Sunday.

"We have been in constant communication with our members and their representatives for several weeks, and we'll continue to stay abreast of current events," the union said in a statement on Thursday. "We are the union for the 144 all year round, and their safety is the highest concern.

The United States embassy in Moscow sent out a security alert on Sunday that said, "An increasing number of airlines are cancelling flights into and out of Russia, and numerous countries have closed their airspace to Russian airlines. U.S. citizens should consider departing Russia immediately via commercial options still available."
