Florida Official Sues Biden Administration Over Gun Rights For Medical Marijuana Patients On 4/20

Florida Official Sues Biden Administration Over Gun Rights For Medical Marijuana Patients On 4/20

Florida’s agriculture commissioner on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration, arguing that the federal government is unconstitutionally depriving medical cannabis patients of their Second Amendment right to purchase and possess firearms.

The suit from Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Nikki Fried (D), who is also running for governor, also makes a unique legal argument that a congressional spending rider preventing the use of Justice Department funds to interfere in the implementation of medical marijuana programs means that the feds can’t deny patients their right to bear arms.

As it stands, in order to buy a gun, people are required to fill out a federal form that explicitly asks about the use of illegal drugs—including cannabis. Those who admit to marijuana use are ineligible to make the purchase and could face up to five years in prison if they lie, regardless of state cannabis laws.

“To be clear, I am in no way challenging the federal government’s right to enact reasonable gun regulations that protect the public,” Fried said at a press briefing on Wednesday. “In fact, I believe the federal government needs to take more common sense actions to keep families and communities safe from the senseless and horrific gun violence that has tragically impacted our state over the years. And my record speaks for itself on this. But denying the Second Amendment rights of medical marijuana patients is not about safety.”

Army Picks Its Replacement for the M4 and SAW

Army Picks Its Replacement for the M4 and SAW

The Army has found its replacements for the M4 rifle and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, handing out a contract to put new guns in the hands of tens of thousands of soldiers.

The force is awarding a 10-year, $20.4 million contract to Sig Sauer for the XM5 Rifle, which will become the new standard rifle for soldiers, and the XM250 Automatic Rifle, which will replace the SAW.

The service will also switch from 5.56mm ammo to 6.8mm, after a search for rounds better built to penetrate body armor.

"Both weapons fire common 6.8 millimeter ammunition utilizing government provided projectiles and vendor-designed cartridges," an Army spokesperson said in a press release. "The new ammunition includes multiple types of tactical and training rounds that increase accuracy and are more lethal against emerging threats than both the 5.56mm and 7.62mm ammunition."

The ammunition change will possibly be more challenging than acquiring the new weapons.

Sweden riots over Quran burning: What is happening?

Sweden riots over Quran burning: What is happening?

Several days of unrest in Sweden, sparked by a far-right group’s plan to burn copies of the Quran, wounded at least 40 people as police called for more resources to deal with the violence.

The burning of the Muslim holy book is a well-practised stunt by the leader of the anti-immigration and anti-Islam group Hard Line, Danish-Swedish politician Rasmus Paludan.

Aiming to drum up support ahead of Danish legislative elections in September, Paludan declared a “tour” of Sweden, planning to visit cities and towns with large Muslim populations with the intent of burning copies of the Quran during the holy month of Ramadan.

TEEN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING HIS GIRLFRIEND, DIAMOND ALVAREZ, 22 TIMES IS BACK IN CUSTODY

TEEN ACCUSED OF SHOOTING HIS GIRLFRIEND, DIAMOND ALVAREZ, 22 TIMES IS BACK IN CUSTODY

The 17-year-old boyfriend of a teen girl who was shot 22 times and killed in southwest Houston has violated his bond requirements and is back in custody, records show.

Houston investigators believe 15-year-old Diamond Alvarez was gunned down in her neighborhood park on Jan. 11 by her boyfriend, 17-year-old Frank DeLeon Jr., after she found out he was cheating, according to court documents.

In court, prosecutors said that when officers arrested Deleon, a suitcase was found in his room, packed with enough belongings for more than an overnight trip.

Deleon posted his $250,000 bond on Jan. 19 after being charged with Alvarez's murder, according to court records.

Not too bright to violate your curfew after posting bond.

It does bring up the question of should he have been given bond? He had a history of violence but it isn't clear if he was charged/ convicted. OTOH we have seen people who killed on recorded video who were granted bond.

Charges: Man assaulted Bloomington hotel employee with wizard wand

Charges: Man assaulted Bloomington hotel employee with wizard wand

A 29-year-old Woodbury man is charged with assault, accused of pointing a wizard wand at a hotel employee while using racist slurs in Bloomington on Friday.

Skylar Eros Dupree Thomas, 29, of Woodbury, is charged with fifth-degree assault and trespassing in connection to the April 15 incident at the Hyatt Place Hotel.

Thomas, who had previously been trespassed from the hotel in November 2021, used a 16-inch wand he'd made out of a stick during the incident, which prompted the hotel employee to pull out a gun in an effort to defend himself, court documents allege. No injuries were reported.

Thomas was scheduled to make his first court appearance in Hennepin County District Court Monday morning.

Should Congress declare war on Russia?

Let's not hide behind euphemisms of 'intervention' or 'no fly zones' and acknowledge we will fight the enemy we spent decades preparing for. If we do go into Ukraine at least some of NATO (the Baltic States, Norway, Poland, Romania) would follow; the majority would probably support the effort to various degrees.

There is no doubt we would "win" but there will be a cost yet to be determined. It is also possible the conflict would spread beyond Ukraine to Russia, Europe and the United States.

Should the US go to war with Russia?

Third man arrested, then released on $500K bail, for gun charge after Sacramento mass shooting

Sacramento police announced a third arrest Tuesday stemming from Sunday’s mass shooting downtown, saying they had taken into custody a man seen carrying a firearm after the incident.

Daviyonne Dawson, 31, was arrested late Monday and a gun was recovered, police said, adding that Dawson will be charged as possessing a firearm despite being prohibited from having one.

“At this time, Dawson is not charged with crimes directly related to the shootings,” police said. “Based on the type of firearm recovered, detectives do not believe that this gun was used in the shooting. Detectives are continuing to investigate this crime and identify additional suspects.”

Dawson subsequently was released from the jail Tuesday after posting $500,000 bail, a law enforcement source said.
