Don't shame the hungry:

Don't shame the hungry -- Sherry Caves

Feeding the hungry is a worthy goal. Shaming the hungry, setting up obstacles and barriers to getting help, is unworthy and mean.

Food Shares (also known as food stamps) provide food to hungry people. Gov. Scott Walker has a provision in his state budget proposal — and both the Senate and Assembly have or will have bills introduced — to limit access based on problems with child support compliance. Only Mississippi has such a restriction.

Wisconsin already has the second highest child support compliance in the nation. So why has Gov. Walker proposed further steps that are expensive and complicated? To create a stigma around getting help for hunger. To shame the hungry.

Forty-four percent of those receiving the benefits, and therefore those who would be most harmed by this restriction, are -- you guessed it -- children. Please consider using the email address below to contact the Joint Finance Committee, which is receiving comments on the budget and may vote it out of committee this week. You can email the committee at BudgetComments@legis.wisconsin.gov. Contact your state senator to vote against Senate Bill 19 and your Assembly person to vote against Assembly Bill 557.

Federal judge blocks Wisconsin's 'cocaine mom' law

Source: Wi State Journal

DAVID WAHLBERG dwahlberg@madison.com 20 min ago

A federal judge has blocked a Wisconsin law — sometimes called the "cocaine mom" law — that allows the state to detain pregnant women suspected of drug or alcohol abuse.

U.S. District Court Judge James Peterson ruled in Madison Friday that the law, which extends protections for abused or neglected children to fetuses, is "void for vagueness." The amount of drug use by pregnant women that should prompt state action and the risk to fetuses are not clear, the judge said.

.......................................

"For the first time in 19 years, Wisconsin women who become pregnant and seek medical help can do so without fear that their confidentiality will be violated and their health and their baby’s health undermined by forced treatment and punishment based on medical misinformation and stigma," said Dr. Kathy Hartke, chair of the Wisconsin chapter of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Aleksandra Zgierska, president of the Wisconsin chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, said babies' health has more to do with socioeconomic factors such as poverty, nutrition and access to health care than what pregnant women do or don't do during pregnancy.

I am glad to see this.

Article says this ruling applies state-wide. The state has not yet deciding to appeal.

I am wondering if this ruling could--could--possible affect other states but the article says nothing about my wondering.

CONGRESSIONAL OVERSIGHT OF TRUMP: Voting 230 for and 193 against, the House on Thursday blocked a Democratic attempt to force floor debate on a measure now in committee that would begin congressional oversight of ethics and conflict-of-interest issues involving President Donald Trump. In part, the measure would require public disclosure of official visitor logs at the White House and Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort; a public accounting of the General Services Administration finding that Trump’s company has not violated its lease to operate the Trump International Hotel in Washington; disclosures on ethics waivers for administration officials and probes of any conflicts between his presidential acts and business activities in Russia and elsewhere.

Ann Coulter on "The View" (Photo: Screen capture)

Monday on The View,.........................

.......................

“Well, he doesn’t like, he’s more of a–” Coulter began.

“Ann Coulter!” Goldberg shamed. “He does lie.”

“He lied one time,” Coulter said as the audience booed again. “No, he doesn’t lie. He’s a BSer. He’s an exaggerator. When he says ‘everyone’s rated this golf course as the greatest golf course in the world.’ OK, the audience doesn’t believe it. He doesn’t believe it. He knows they don’t believe it. But everyone feels nice. That’s what he does. But he doesn’t lie. Hillary lies.”

Goldberg tipped her head back laughing hysterically as Behar cut in to try and reason with her. “I love that you people keep bringing up Hillary. Hillary isn’t thinking about y’all. Let’s talk about the man that is the president of the United States,” she continued while the audience cheered.

When probed about specific lies, Coulter clarified that she’s not talking about anything prior to him announcing his candidacy for president. An audience member can be heard screaming “what?!”

“He was a little nutty before he ran for president,” Coulter admitted.

WATCH: Trump angrily walks away from interview after reporter presses for Obama wiretapping evidence

Source: raw story

Brad Reed
01 May 2017 at 10:36 ET

.........The wiretapping claims came up when Dickerson asked Trump about his relationship with former President Barack Obama, whom he had accused of conducting unlawful surveillance of him during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“He was very nice to me, but after that, we’ve had some difficulties,” said Trump. “So it doesn’t matter. You know, words are less important to me than deeds, and you saw what happened with surveillance.”

Dickerson then asked Trump for evidence that Obama had illegally wiretapped him, but Trump wouldn’t offer any — while insisting that “our side has been proven very strongly.”

Dickerson contradicted Trump, however, and pointed out that nothing had been proven.

4. Pre-existing conditions are lumped into the high risk pools and Trump thinks this is dandy!!....

Part of Interview:

...........JOHN DICKERSON: Help us explain because there are people--

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: The bill--

JOHN DICKERSON: --out there wondering what kind of changes.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Let me explain. Let me explain it to you.

JOHN DICKERSON: Okay.

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: This bill is much different than it was a little while ago, okay? This bill has evolved. And we didn't have a failure on the bill. You know, it was reported like a failure. Now, the one thing I wouldn't have done again is put a timeline. That's why on the second iteration, I didn't put a timeline.

But we have now pre-existing conditions in the bill. We have -- we've set up a pool for the pre-existing conditions so that the premiums can be allowed to fall. We're taking across all of the borders or the lines so that insurance companies can compete--

Everything President Trump has tweeted (and what it was about)

April 30, 2017, 10:25 p.m.

His tweets have the power to shape international relations, send stock prices up — or down — and galvanize the American public.

We're watching how Donald Trump is using this platform of unfettered communication now that he’s commander in chief. Here is everything Trump has tweeted since he was sworn in as 45th president of the United States. In many cases, we look at what he was reacting to and whether what he said was accurate. And, as much as possible, we'll relate what else was going on at the time. Check back for more as Trump continues to tweet.

Trump says new GOP healthcare bill 'guarantees' coverage for pre-existing conditions
Associated Press

During an interview with “Face the Nation” on CBS aired Sunday, President Trump said a revised bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act has a “clause that guarantees” that people with pre-existing conditions will be covered.

Trump said: “Pre-existing conditions are in the bill. And I just watched another network than yours, and they were saying, `Pre-existing is not covered.’ Pre-existing conditions are in the bill. And I mandate it. I said, 'Has to be.'"

Despite a renewed White House effort push, the House did not vote last week on the revised healthcare bill.

The latest version would let states escape a requirement under Obama's 2010 law that insurers charge healthy and seriously ill customers the same rates. The overall legislation would cut the Medicaid program for the poor, eliminate fines for people who don't buy insurance and provide generally skimpier subsidies. Critics have said the approach could reduce protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
