Bana Alabed: Syrian tweeting girl pens letter to Trump
Bana Alabed, the seven-year-old Aleppo girl known worldwide for her tweets from Aleppo, has written an open letter to Donald Trump.
"You must do something for the children of Syria because they are like your children and deserve peace like you," she wrote.
Bana escaped Aleppo with her family in December during the mass evacuations, and is now living in Turkey.
Her twitter account became famous for its messages from besieged east Aleppo.
Her mother, Fatemah - who helps run the account - sent the text of the letter to the BBC.
She said Bana wrote it days before President Trump's inauguration, because "she has seen Trump many times on the TV".
Bana Alabed's letter to President Trump
Dear Donald Trump,
My name is Bana Alabed and I am a seven years old Syrian girl from Aleppo.
I lived in Syria my whole life before I left from besieged East Aleppo on December last year. I am part of the Syrian children who suffered from the Syrian war.
But right now, I am having a peace in my new home of Turkey. In Aleppo, I was in school but soon it was destroyed because of the bombing.
Some of my friends died.
I am very sad about them and wish they were with me because we would play together by right now. I couldn't play in Aleppo, it was the city of death.
Right now in Turkey, I can go out and enjoy. I can go to school although I didn't yet. That is why peace is important for everyone including you.
However, millions of Syrian children are not like me right now and suffering in different parts of Syria. They are suffering because of adult people.
I know you will be the president of America, so can you please save the children and people of Syria? You must do something for the children of Syria because they are like your children and deserve peace like you.
If you promise me you will do something for the children of Syria, I am already your new friend.
I am looking forward to what you will do for the children of Syria.
** No response from Trump of course. He doesn't care **

Stacking the deck before the next general election
Trump and the GOP know for an undeniable fact that he will not win the next election. He hasn't been in office a week yet and he has so much shiggedy going on he will lose. So he cries 'voter fraud'. This way he and the GOP will push laws to suppress voter registration as an excuse.
Opinion-When Fascism Dawns in America, You'll Know It
'I'm gonna tell you something these [women's] protests are out of control,' right-wing consultant Frank Luntz told Fox News. 'I never thought that this would be America, I never thought this would happen in this country.'At first, you'll know it every time you open social media or cable news.
At first it will be the sudden emergence of The Leader, the Alpha, and what he chooses as his first victim: the truth.
The essence of fascism is not overwhelming force. The essence of fascism is a regime which decides what the truth is, and a public which has come, whether exuberantly or grudgingly, to accept it.
Not the whole public, by any means. Not even a majority. But he will address them as The People. His meaning: a cohesive group which sees The Leader as someone for whom even the American presidency, the most powerful office on earth, represents a step down, beneath him.
Somehow, The Leader will have to accept, at least for now, the modest safety belts on Air Force One, a definite sacrifice from the 24 carat gold plating on the belts aboard his private jet.
You'll know The Leader when he emerges. No matter how ridiculous he looks, sounds, or acts, he is the Alpha. There is none else. And he has you where he wants you. Wherever you are. Whoever you are.
You'll know when there are only two options left: Either you're one of the People, or you're the Enemy. There is nowhere else to go.
When fascism is dawning in the land of the free, you'll know. The signs are all there. Authoritarianism? Check. Kitsch-laden ultra-nationalism? Check. Hyper-political fundamentalism as a new state religion? Check. Militaristic xenophobia? Check. Demonization of minorities and the press? Check. Strong support by the mega-wealthy? Check. Vicious anti-liberalism? Check. Remaking the educational system? Check. A cult of personality? Check and Check.
Fundamentally, you will know The Leader by the way he treats women.
You'll know that fascism is dawning because The Leader is neither republican nor democratic in outlook. He is aggressively imperial. Fascism, after all, is seldom satisfied with mere monarchy. Its aim is empire. And, just as our Leader here satisfies nostalgic, ancient or generational cravings for a King, America's new Leader satisfies the cravings for an Emperor.
Just take a look at the two-page spread in today's Israel Hayom newspaper. On one side, Trump and Netanyahu in the new president's garish Hafez Assad Baroque Trump Tower throne room, the banner headline reading "WE HAVE SHARED VALUES."
For The Leader, nothing succeeds like excess. After all, the more capricious, gilt-blinding, infantile, and outrageous The Leader is, the more clearly he's in the process of assuming the mantle of Emperor.
You'll know it by reading about him in the newspaper owned by his patron Sheldon Adelson:
"A brave new world will rise like the dawn emerging in all its glory from the darkness that is disappearing in these very moments."
On Friday, just hours after being sworn in, one of the first acts of The Leader "by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States' was to officially proclaim January 20, 2017, the day of his inauguration, "as National Day of Patriotic Devotion."
The next day, millions of women, supported by men and children, took to streets across the country and the planet to collectively announce that the emperor was a whole new form of naked.
The Leader and his court knew just how to respond.
Conservative political consultant Frank Luntz told Fox News on Sunday that the women's protests were a "violent action" aimed at intimidating the Trump administration. "I think that they want to prove that they can be as loud and as obnoxious and in your face as possible."
"I'm gonna tell you something these protests are out of control. The language is out of control. There are eight, nine, 10-year-olds watching this. They read these horrible words from these signs."
For his part, The Leader responded to the protests by convening a phalanx of white male onlookers in order to sign an anti-abortion executive order which could have far reaching implications for the reproductive health of woman around the world.
Luntz, one of whose former students and a co-worker on the Republican Party's 1994 takeover of the House of Representatives was Benjamin Netanyahu's current ambassador to Washington Ron Dermer, said a woman protester had yelled "You fascist' at him, swore and threw red confetti glitter at his face.
"I never thought that this would be America," Luntz said. "I never thought this would happen in this country."
Neither did anyone else.
Except, maybe, The Leader.
When fascism dawns in America, it will be time for The Leader's Enemies to do what all Enemies who love America need to do: Show up. Make noise. Run for office. Vote.
Frank Luntz knows how all this works. "The average American assumes that being 'Orwellian' is a negative, that being 'Orwellian' means that you mislead,"
Luntz told National Public Radio's Terry Gross in 2007.
"If you read 'On Language,' to be Orwellian is to speak with absolute clarity, to be succinct, to explain what the event is, to talk about what triggers something happening, and to do so without any sort of pejorative whatsoever."
here's a tendency, among us Enemies, to recoil from the words of The Leader. The words that turn Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness to Lies, License, and the Pursuit of Minorities.
But maybe it's time, paradoxically, to begin to study The Leaders words, take them to heart, and go out and act accordingly.
Especially where it comes to the language of the order he issued declaring the day of his inauguration a national holiday.
It's as apt a warning of incipient fascism as we're likely to see:
"There is no freedom where the people do not believe in it; no law where the people do not follow it; and no peace where the people do not pray for it."

Fourteen Defining Characteristics Of Fascism...This is where we are right now. Let's talk
1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.
2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.
3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.
4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread
domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.
5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.
6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.
7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.
8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.
9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.
10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.
11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.
12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.
13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.
14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.
