... I know is that if you remember the 60's, you weren't really there.
Good grief
I didn't know many people could be worse than Buchanan! Except this nut in North Carolina or somewhere around there who keeps getting elected even though he outright defends slavery. Or maybe because of it?
Not Surprising
These wingnuts don't care how much damage their lies cause to this country they claim to love. Anything for a buck or a vote. I retired for financial reasons only to a remote corner of the MidWest, and half the people here are scared witless of Democrats in general, President Obama in particular. One poor woman whose elderly parents were both confined to nursing homes broke down in tears right in front of me because she thought Barack Obama was going to make the doctors pull the plug on her mom and dad. When her 'friend' started to scream, "That Obama! He's the very devil!" I slammed my hands down on the table and told her to shut the you-know-what up. She did, too, because I come from a military family and suffer from an inborn command voice which surprises people who've never heard it before, especially from a 5' tall little old lady. Anyway, there went another Bible study group I had to quit.
But my basic point is, there's no limit to the hate and hysteria that wingnuts like to stir up. I've heard things in my 7 years here that would curl your hair. When I pin some jackass' ears back, they call ME mean. I can hardly believe the crap these people swallow whole. Did you know - GASP - that our President wants to bring half of Kenya over here to keep him in power by any means? Why, no white women will be safe anywhere! to hear the teabaggers tell it.

Any place that erects a statue to Stevie Ray Vaughn can't be all bad! Good grief, I miss that man.
Hi!
You've been a member longer than I, but I still want to welcome you. This is a great website with some wonderful people, as I saw immediately.
Mind if I toss in my 2 cents about Florida versus Texas? I had to live in Texas (due to marriage) for more years than I care to remember, and I can't think of any liberal areas there. Though there might be some. As for Florida, I know it has a large section (the middle?) where more liberal minds gravitate. One thing you might do would be to contact some of the major Democratic leaders in each potential site. They could give you a better idea of what things are like.
One thing you DON'T want to do is to bother listening to anything the bleeping GOP says. They're a bunch of lying dogs, period. They'd lie on their grandmother's grave for a vote or a buck.
Come to think of it, you might like San Antonio, where one of the Castro brothers is Mayor, I seem to recall. He expects Texas to turn blue again before too long. That would be the day!
Welcome
You've come to the right (?) place.
Though I do wish we had a cross-through button, because then we could have all the fun of typing that word and marking through it before substituting a better word such as 'correct' or 'best'. One of my best firebrand liberal friends from a former website got to where he couldn't even bear the sight of that politically tinged word. He'd write it and then cross it out just for fun. I miss him, but his health deteriorated to the point where keeping tabs on two born trolls in our midst was too much stress. Then they started running rampant - very disrespectful of their host - and making the place miserable. I got tired of slamming them back and eventually voted with my feet.
Hooray, My First Thread!
Hello, everyone. This website is a godsend for someone like me, marooned in teabag land. I feel normal here. The world starts to make sense again. If you haven't yet, feel free to check out my profile. I'm happy to hang with you folks.
We dodged a bullet alright
As if I didn't have enough against Queen Ann - she went and ruined the good name of dressage. It's a truly demanding art and the supreme exhibition of horse and rider as one. Now I can never watch it again (used to ride) w/o wanting to retch because of the recent association.
However, that does remind me to thank David Letterman for helping stop the GOP. His rants about the horse, the dog, and the GOP Chicken too scared to ever appear on his show must've done some real damage. At least it encouraged the faithful. During the campaign I bought my dog a big rubber chicken to carry around the yard and chew on while it squawked. I wrote "Chicken Mitt" on its belly and also hung one from the big wood sign I so lovingly crafted for the front yard. Thank God for fences - it drove my tea drinking neighbors madder than ever.
I don't know how I could've borne up if they'd won.
Tactics agreed
As a member, I can personally endorse MoveOn and PDA. I also really like Van Jones, who's young enough to have time for America to grow up enough to vote him into the WH. After Hillary, of course. 2016 will probably be her last chance. Although I love Joe Biden, he never has had and never will have the votes, so I hope he doesn't challenge her. I hope the GOP shrivels down to no more than a tiny handy place to spot the national crazies, too small to cause any more trouble.
