About Me

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!

Well Said

And that's only one reason I've always been uncommonly fond of the French. Without them we might never have succeeded. BTW, have you ever read of the time Thomas Paine spent across the pond? Odds are you have. He was a most fascinating character.

... anyone who fought in the Revolutionary War was granted automatic citizenship.

Yes, they kindly sent me a message explaining that. I'll become a star member in April, my first financial opportunity. But I look forward to making this website my online home. Is there a blues group by any chance? I love most types of music, but perhaps blues most of all. Used to sing a little, even. Crazy about Odetta.

Hope Renewed, Thank You

Oh, I fell in love with this site at first glance! A private website where I belonged for years has one foot in the grave and the other foot on a banana peel because the owner, a good liberal, no longer has the health and time to control the 2 guys whose real nature started to show at the first opportunity. In other words, they started running amuk at will, so I'm not the only person who decided to move on. I retired to a tiny midwestern town for financial reasons and easily get my fill of teabaggers first hand; I don't need to put up with the rabid types online as well.

At first I was very lonesome for a good internet home and despaired of finding another. But now I feel very encouraged.

Having joined as a non-star member and unable to correct that before April at the earliest, I can't post a new thread to introduce myself. So I'm hoping people will read this sincere reply to you and let that suffice for the moment. I feel as if I've found a lovely group of folks of all ages to hang with. Anyone who wishes would be welcome to view my profile and let that serve as a temporary introduction.

Very Kind of You

I'm a senior on a small fixed income, and I'd love to subscribe but it will have to be a month or so from now at a modest amount. Hopefully I can make it my birthday present to myself, because it looks like you have a very worthwhile website here.

Anyway, when I first joined recently and you sent me a welcome letter with a few instructions on it, somehow I managed to lose it off my computer. And I forgot to bookmark the instruction page. I even lost the personal reply you sent to a question I'd asked! (You can see why I don't do anyone's taxes these days.)

So in April when I might be able to buy a modest star membership, will I lose the post count accrued beforehand? Or will it matter at that point? Can you offer a link to a FAQs page for me to study? Sorry, I didn't used to be so high maintenance! Are non-star members to whom I reply at this time notified of my replies?

All Hat, No Horse

That's what's wrong with most of them.

I've talked to the FBI before about threatening posts that certain websites won't delete. They reminded me that most such posters are just full of hot air, and it has to cross the line into overt intention versus 'somebody oughta'. But the most rabidly serious threats against the life of the President, I have reported a few of those in the past. And will continue to do so.

The tiny midwestern town where I retired a few years ago is a teabagger/paramilitary hotbed, and at first I got threats myself because I'm crazy enough to march around town wearing Democrat-themed outfits. I write letters to the editor of the local weekly Repug ragsheet. But the closest someone's come to actual violence is to throw the occasional beer bottle at me from their passing pickup when they see me on foot or riding my bicycle.

For the first few years there was a concerted effort to run me out of town on a rail. The knuckle draggers wanted me off the weekly mini-bus run so much that they finally turned in a false police report that I carried a gun on board and threatened everybody. (I never did - mostly I just laughed at them when they screamed in my face.) Fortunately the police chief has enough brain cells to know who was lying, but the law still wouldn't do anything to them either for their many misdemeanors and even felonies.

There's something Orwellian about drug-addled trogs (2 are certified mental cases) preaching to me about freedom, religion, and ethics. Of course I've been denied most avenues of social life, but I don't care for the society of those types anyway. A few good people have sent me complimentary letters, but in this town where everyone knows everyone else's business, nobody had nerve to sign their encouraging messages! Too scared of the rough crowd.

Anyway, most people don't harrass me openly too much anymore, because when they do I have ways of making them think twice about a second try at me. They know I don't run though I do fight back, even if it's only holding them up to public view in the paper.

But I don't worry about the President's safety too much, not like at first. He's very heavily guarded, and nobody's fool. As for the internet trolls, I do prefer they crap in their own living rooms, not those intended for civilized folk.

What became of the squatter movement? I don't mean where people claimed ownership, but rather they moved into unoccupied houses for various lengths of time until the places sold or rented out. When I first heard of it, the banks and law officials sort of turned a blind eye so long as there was no trouble, because the houses were actually safer from vandals that way. I thought it was a good idea. Maybe it was too good to last.

You're still ahead of me

I can't even find WHERE on the DU page to try to upload my favorite personal avatar from my computer. Had to take one of the company offerings for now. It's okay, but it's not me.
