About Me

Still an ardent Irish-American Catholic damnYankee Yellow Dog Democrat socialist after all these years. (cue Simon music) Army brat and wife for many years, now have been on the loose far longer than I was married. After my two red chows died, I took in a mini-beagle cross that I named Molly Maguire, thinking she might need a good Irish name like my original real one. Later she got a baby sister, a smooth-coat JRT I named Brigid after the greatest of the ancient Celtic goddesses. My great-grandfather and his son fought for Michael Collins and barely made it out of Ireland one step ahead of John Bull. They slipped over to Wales for new identities and then forward to the States for a fresh start. That makes me second generation of illegal but certainly justified immigrants. There are precious few people to whose defense I fly immediately, but the list includes Hillary Clinton, President Barack Obama even when I disagree with him - it happens! - and living Irish patriots Gerry Adams and Martin \\\'Mind Your Kneecaps\\\' McGuiness. I pray earnestly for a united and free Ireland rescued from all official British occupation, with every square inch of alleged \\\'ancestral lands\\\' now held immorally and illegally by the invaders returned to the rightful owners. Irish-only rule for Ireland. No foreign masters anymore! I find it passing strange when Brits chide ME about \'interfering\' in Irish politics!

At one time I was addicted to the Sunday tv political wars.

Back then there was actually some intelligent, real debate going on and the hosts weren't total idiots. Now they make me puke and I avoid them like the plague they are.

Still listen to the evening news for one hour only while I rest or do other things, but that's it. Since I am a bona fide news junkie, I keep up with an online news feed from 6-7 different sources. And I do watch presidential candidate debates after first taking some Pepto Bismol.

Thanks - as I said, I didn't get the details on that story, only the headline.

And I'd rather suspect methane than a bomb. Less ominous. But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

Did anyone else read the story of the exploding porta-potty this past week? I swear it wasn't an Onion piece. Anything too unusual, I try to remember to check the source.

Why did that thing go blooey, anyhow?

You bet.

I take it then you're not one who trembles when Skittles storms and thunders and calls us 'swooners' for not sharing his hatred of all things Obama? and refusing to shut up and stop defying him/her?

As for how often President Obama takes our advice: quite frankly, although I want him to listen and believe that he does, his job is not to test which way the wind blows and act accordingly. His job is to lead. I want a president smarter than me. This one is. The last one wasn't half as smart as my dogs, and see where that got us, everybody? At least we're smart enough to vote smart. The opposition needs to get over its jealousy that with very few exceptions, Barack Hussein Obama's always going to be the smartest one in the room.

Swooners, indeed! They're all hysterical pearl clutchers when it looks like they're about to lose.

Hitler called his party national socialism, but it wasn't.

They were actually fascist instead; but even back then 'fascism' sounded worse. A case of mislabeling which still today contributes to needless fear of true socialism.

Weird but fascinating.

I missed the details, but there was a case recently where a porta potty exploded. I always wondered if someone went in there while smoking and maybe ignited the methane!?

Seriously. The Red Queen can pretty much mop up the floor with anyone. I've seen her do it.

They never listen. Too stoopid, like domestic turkeys that will drown in a rainstorm because they

keep looking up at the sky. (Wild turkeys are some of the smartest animals on the planet, by contrast.)

I used to think that Iraq should remain united until I remembered that it's a cobbled-together nightmare of a nation anyway, created by international powers that never wanted them to be strong and united. The Kurds, Shiites, and Sunnis are ancient enemies. Then I realized that even if they did divide into more naturally grouped 3 nations, they'd STILL be fighting each other for the same reasons. So I'm not too sure about all that except for one thing; it's THEIR problem to fix, not ours. Like Afghanistan, that's a place where foreign armies go to die.

I WANT everyone to have peace and plenty. But we can't force feed democracy to anyone, especially when we don't exactly do it justice either.

Slim men never turned me off; but then neither did heavier ones.

Case in point about sexy heavier guys: There's a young front man for the soul band St. Paul and the Broken Bones that's trending right now. I expect a long and lustrous career for them. While he, Paul, is on the pudgy side like Belushi was, still he can sing and dance like hardly anyone you've ever seen. He just pours his heart out and dances away. But for the several decades between us, he'd never be safe around me for a minute! I just adore him. And believe it or not, he was studying to be an accountant! I can't imagine a more horrific fate for someone clearly marked by God for music.

A general Irish cultural tradition. We don't expect to be taken literally,

at least not when it isn't meant that way. Sometimes I say, for instance, "I was mad enough to spit nails" or even "I was mad enough to run over Mother Theresa in a crosswalk" - the latter being the worse thing I can imagine.

If I tell someone "This isn't over", however, you can take that to the bank.

Be careful what you pray for.
