I am a Republican. Why is my party gaslighting America?

Riddle me this: If Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have smoking gun evidence of a deep-state conspiracy that threatens American democracy itself, wouldnt they be doing more than playing silly hashtag games, such as #ReleasetheMemo?
My question: If Congress has evidence of a Russian conspiracy that threatens our democracy, wouldnt they be doing more than playing games?
Apparently the answer to both questions is No.

I don't say I would never vote for a Republican.
I cast my first Presidential ballot as a teenaged New Yorker against Jimmy Carter because I did not believe in the New South. I was wrong.
Nonetheless, the doctrine of "No permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests" seems wise in the long run. The Compromise of 1877 was collusion among Democrats and Republicans that spawned Jim Crow and stultified America for a century.
However, given current political demographics (Almost 70% of Americans identify as white and half of those give Trump his 35% approval rating) I can foresee no realignment.

Maybe he should take a knee in silent protest.
