tenderfoot's JournalHere's Audio of Managers Scolding Employees for Wanting to Unionize
Truck drivers at the Duluth, GA facility of the multinational storage company Iron Mountain are considering unionizing. This is a recording of a recent meeting in which two Iron Mountain managers "educate" the employees about the downside of a union. (The link was sent out last night to an email list of labor journalists.) Its content is not especially outrageousits value lies in the fact that it offers a full look at one of the many little stumbling blocks that go along with any workplace's attempt to organize.
"This is the South. This is not something where unions are [prevalent]," says one manager. "If the union comes in, it will make it much more difficult to get things done." When the other manager addresses the employees, he says of their union campaign, "I can't help but take it personally... it does hurt. It does sting."
At one point, a manager tells the workers, "No one in this room has more union experience than me." At that, one worker speaks up to note that he was in a union for five years at a previous workplace, and tells a story of how the union helped save his job after the company tried to fire him unjustly. "Well shame on the company," replies the manager, "but we don't do that here." (The worker's previous employer would no doubt say the same thing.)

Uh...Company Behind Troubled Obamacare Website Donated Heavily To Republicans In 2012
Who didn't see this coming?
Republicans new Obamacare attack line hinges on allegations that the contractor in charge of building the disastrous healthcare.gov website landed the gig through sweetheart deals from the Obama administration.
But according to Federal Election Commission records, that companys PAC gave more to House Republicans than House Democrats during the 2012 cycle including a $2,000 check for the GOPs chief scandal investigator, Oversight Committee Chair Darrell Issa. Whats more, executives of CGI Federal personally gave more than twice as much to GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney than to President Obama. The contractor has also feasted on more than $2.4 billion worth of IT work dating back to the early Bush Administration.
So far, none of that has stopped the Republican National Congressional Committee from suggesting CGI netted hundreds of millions of dollars to create the dysfunctional website because of its ties to the White House
On Wednesday, the NRCC blasted the Republican National Committees email list heralding a petition it had started that would urge Congress to investigate CGI-Obama ties. The email noted the importance of finding out, among other pressing questions, How did [CGI] get contracted to do it?

Warning Graphic content: Tom DeLay: I’m back and I’m on a mission from God
Former U.S. House Majority Leader Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX) told a group of tea party Republicans last week that he has been contacted by God and told to lead a Constitutional revival. According to Texas Public Radio, however, DeLay says that he intends for now to stay out of public life and influence elections from behind the scenes.
Barry Schlech, vice-chairman of the tea party group Texas Patriots PAC, told TPR, (DeLay) believes that he is being led to encourage, or promote, or participate in sort of a new a new revolution for the country not armed battles and muskets and all that stuff, but in terms of ideals.
In his speech to the group, DeLay waxed on about how his faith in Christ helped him struggle through criminal charges for money laundering and racketeering. His money laundering conviction was overturned in September by a Texas judge.
Its really happy day for me, and I just thank the Lord for carrying me through all of this and it really drove my detractors crazy because I had the joy of Jesus in me and they didnt understand it, said DeLay to reporters in September.
When asked at the time of the ruling whether he plans to return to Congress, DeLay said, Theres too much other things that the Lord wants me to do. But around the political arena, Im around. They never got rid of me.
In Texas, Schlech echoed that sentiment.
I didnt get the sense with what he said that he wants to ever be in office again, Schlech said. Hes going to be an advocate, not in the background but maybe in the forefront.

Break out the tissues: NY college student says order to remove Confederate flag from dorm window
New York college student says order to remove Confederate flag from dorm window violated his civil rightsAn upstate New York college student says his rights have been violated after university officials ordered him to take down a Confederate flag from his dorm room window.
Matthew Papay says two University of Rochester deans misrepresented the reasons he removed the flag, which is seen by many as a racist or unpatriotic symbol, by telling other students in an email that hed voluntarily done so after discussion with fellow students.
I am from North Carolina, and the school is blatantly ignoring my rights to express the cultural identity I choose to identify with, even though the school prides itself on how culturally diverse it is, Papay told the (Rochester) Democrat and Chronicle.
The universitys dean of students denied lying in the email, but says he had incomplete information about the incident when he sent the email Friday.
A graduate house advisor told Papay to remove a flag draped in his window, saying it violated fire codes for the dormitory, and the student replaced it with a paper replica flag, which he said the fire marshal had told him was permitted.

Facebook Users Experience Status Update Problems Today
Does Facebook being down make Zuckerberg a failure?
Push the snooze alarm, take a shower and post to Facebook while you enjoy your morning coffee. That last part of a cherished morning routine was interrupted by an error message for much of this morning: "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes."
As of 10:50 AM, the errors appeared to be fixed and Facebook users were back in action. However, that didn't prevent people flocking to theirTwitter accounts to complain, enough so that #facebookdown is a top trending topic.
