Bowe Bergdahl to be charged with desertion, retired officer tells Fox

Source: Washington Times

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was released by the Taliban last year in exchange for five prisoners, is being charged with desertion, retired Lt. Col. Tony Schaffer told Bill O’Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor” Monday.

Mr. Shaffer, who now works for the London Center for Policy Research, said two separate military sources have confirmed to him that Sgt. Bergdahl’s attorney has been given a “charge sheet,” listing out the articles of the uniform military code that have been violated.

“The army has come to its conclusion and Bowe Bergdahl will be charged with desertion,” Mr. Shaffer said.

Sgt. Bergdahl left his unit in Afghanistan without permission in 2009 and was captured by the Taliban, and held prisoner by the group for five years. Following the much-criticized exchange, the Army conducted an investigation into his actions, which concluded three months ago.

McCain, Feinstein Call for More US Presence in Yemen
Kate Scanlon / @scanlon_kate / January 25, 2015

http://dailysignal.com/2015/01/25/mccain-feinstein-call-us-presence-yemen/

Two U.S. senators – a Republican and a Democrat – called for an increased American presence in Yemen this morning on CBS’ Face the Nation.

Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Dianne Feinstein, D-Cali., both said that an increase in American presence in Yemen might be necessary to stop Iranian influence in the country.

McCain said that “Iran is on the march in Yemen.”

He said that the White House’s version of events “is contradicted by the situation on the ground,” and that they lack a strategy to defeat the threat.

FEINSTEIN QUITS COMMITTEE UNDER WAR-PROFITEER CLOUD
Report documents military contracts
for firms owned by senator's husband
Published: 03/28/2007 at 10:05 PM

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has abruptly walked away from her responsibilities with the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee after a report linked her votes to the financial well-being of her husband’s companies, which received billions of dollars worth of military construction contracts she approved.

As reported in Metroactive, an online report from the Silicon Valley, Feinstein’s resignation followed six years of subcommittee work during which time her alleged conflict of interest stemmed from her husband Richard C. Blum’s ownership of Perini Corp. and URS Corp.

Feinstein, chairman and ranking member of the subcommittee, regularly reviewed and accepted contracts from her husband’s companies for not only construction work for military bases, but also addressing “quality of life” issues for the veterans of the United States military services.

“As MILCON leader, Feinstein relished the details of military construction, even micromanaging one project at the level of its sewer design,” wrote Peter Byrne in the report. “She regularly took junkets to military bases around the world to inspect construction projects, some of which were contracted to her husband’s companies, Perini Corp. and URS Corp.”

YO! IOWA! I gotcha CONSERVATIVE right HE-AH! OH! FUGGEDABOUDIT! And I'm BLUNT, baby!

Chris Christie Reassures Iowa Voters That He's Conservative Enough

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/24/chris-christie-iowa-freedom-summit_n_6539648.html

DES MOINES, Iowa -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) walked out on stage at the Iowa Freedom Summit on Saturday and resoundingly rejected the "conventional wisdom" that his East Coast style doesn't play in the heartland.

"If I was too blunt, too direct, too loud and too New Jersey for Iowa, then why do you people keep inviting me back?" Christie asked. He pointed to his warm relationship with the event's organizer, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), whom the governor described as "a good friend."

Christie's remarks closed out a long day of speeches at the cattle call for conservative White House hopefuls, which also featured Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R).

Christie has faced questions about his ability to connect with social conservatives, who are crucial to winning the early Iowa caucuses. His straight-talk, no-nonsense image has won him many fans at home, but the act can come across as grating to those hearing him for the first time. He sought to soothe such concerns on Saturday by doing what he does best -- being blunt.

The only place I'd be interested in Sarah "serving" me with her "servant's heart" is Denny's

"Yes, Governor, I'd like the Grand Slam and coffee, please!"

Sarah Palin 'Seriously Interested' In Running For President In 2016

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) continued to tease a potential bid for the Republican nomination for president this week leading up to a Saturday address at the Iowa Freedom Summit.

Palin characterized herself as having a "servant's heart" in a Thursday interview with ABC News, saying she's "had enough" of seeing a "sign on the Oval Office door saying, 'No Girls Allowed.'"

“Of course, when you have a servant’s heart, when you know that there is opportunity to do all you can to put yourself forward in the name of offering service, anybody would be interested,” she said.

The Washington Post followed up with Palin on Friday in Des Moines. “You can absolutely say that I am seriously interested," she told the Post. "As I said yesterday, I’m really interested in the opportunity to serve at some point.”

Bill Maher Blasts ‘American Sniper,’ Calls Chris Kyle A ‘Psychopath Patriot’

Bill Maher Blasts ‘American Sniper,’ Calls Chris Kyle A ‘Psychopath Patriot’

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/01/24/bill-maher-blasts-american-sniper-calls-chris-kyle-a-psychopath-patriot.html

On Friday’s episode of his HBO series Real Time with Bill Maher, the outspoken satirist pondered whether Kyle was a “hero or not,” and revealed he’s decidedly anti-American Sniper.

“Hurt Locker made $17 million because it was a little ambiguous, and thoughtful,” Maher said. “And this one was just, ‘American hero! He’s a psychopath patriot, and we love him.’”

Maher then proceeded to fire off a string of questionable quotes from Chris Kyle that he wrote in his autobiography of the same name—upon which the film is based:

“I hate the damn savages”—talking about the Iraqis—“and I’ve been fighting and I always will.”

“I love killing bad guys.”

“Even with the pain, I loved what I was doing.”

“Maybe war isn’t really fun, but I certainly was enjoying it.”
