I give up on Chromecast. Would you recommend Amazon Fire Stick or Roku?

First, I have some kind of problem with Google Chrome. It doesn't load correctly, and I have uninstalled / reinstalled it twice, without any plugins, to rectify the issue. Didn't work. Chromecast is visible on my screen, but when I click "cast" on my laptop, I get the dreaded "no casting devices found" message. Sometimes, after a half hour of Russian Roulette fixes, it works (no single fix works every time). Other times I give up for the night and pop in a DVD.

I've been looking at the Roku stick and the Fire Stick. Your thoughts?

On the Fire Stick, the "Alexa Voice Remote" is part of the bundled software / apps, correct? I haven't been able to figure out if you just need to buy the stick or if you need an Echo device as well. If you do, that rules out Fire Stick for me.

Your thoughts are appreciated. I want this primarily for Netflix and Hulu. I really don't care about anything else, although I may do some exploring. But as far as a buying decision goes, I need something for Netflix and Hulu, that's it.

Gibson Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Gibson Files for Bankruptcy Protection

Gibson has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the company announced today. The filing—which was first reported by Bloomberg, comes with a turnaround plan that will transfer equity ownership of the company to its principal lenders.

In addition to this restructuring, Gibson will receive $135 million from those same lenders in order to keep the company's instrument manufacturing division in business during the transition.

The ownership change will shift control from current stockholders such as Chief Executive Officer Henry Juszkiewicz to noteholders that include Silver Point Capital, Melody Capital Partners and funds affiliated with KKR Credit Advisors, according to court filings obtained by Bloomberg.

Gibson's Innovations business, which it bought in 2014 from Koninklijke Philips NV, will be wound down, according to the company. According to court filings, Gibson Innovations was the source of a number of financial problems for Gibson Brands, and had been facing significant declines in sales.

Show of hands...who knows not to throw gasoline on a bonfire?

Some of you have read my previous posts about my girlfriend's 39 year old son. We did evict him, on December 20th. She continues to hold out hope that he will "learn his lessons" and straighten out his life.

Last night, he was drinking beer and decided he wanted to start a bonfire. So he did. Then he emptied a can of gas onto it.

He called a mutual friend who is staying here with us. He's forbidden to set foot on the property...the sheriff handed him a "no trespassing" order and said "this doesn't expire."

The friend picked him up and took him to the emergency room. He has second and third degree burns on his left arm from his shoulder to his fingertips. He will be out of work for at least a week. He is left-handed, so he basically can't do anything for himself. The friend is going over there today to change his dressings.

My girlfriend said "I hope he learns from this." When he was here, one of his favorite things to do was to drink a case of beer and start a bonfire. And yes, he was trowing gas on it. Finally my girlfriend said "NO MORE BONFIRES."

So when we evicted him and his girlfriend's parents set him up in a new home, he went back to bonfires immediately.

Last night, his luck ran out. What happened was bad, but it could have been a lot worse. All things considered, he was lucky. No idea what kind of permanent damage, if any, he might have caused.

What breaks my heart the most is that every time he does something like this, my girlfriend says "I hope he learns from this." A couple of months ago he got into a fight with his girlfriend behind the wheel of a car while he was driving drunk. She was drunk too. She knocked out six of his front teeth and they both went to jail.

He doesn't "learn." He just goes from one incident to the next. And my girlfriend is his mom, what the hell is she supposed to do other than hope that he'll clean up his act? She has encouraged him to seek professional help. Both he and the girlfriend respond by saying they don't need help.

Meghan McCain is upset over the fact that on The View, "sometimes the audience will applaud things"

Joy Behar said that the table never disparages Trump voters, only the president. McCain said that she knew that but sometimes the audience will applaud things.

“Now you’re blaming the audience?” Behar asked. McCain swore she wasn’t and brought up Acosta again.

“Yes, but sometimes I think conservatives and Republicans forget that the tone of all of this really began really, you know, several years ago with Republicans making statements that felt quite not-inclusive,” Goldberg said.

She said that from there the country moved on to President Barack Obama but then things changed.

Trump Says Mueller's Leaked Questions Don't Involve Collusion. (Actually, They Do.)

Trump Says Mueller’s Leaked Questions Don’t Involve Collusion. (Actually, They Do.)

President Donald Trump seized on a collection of leaked questions special counsel Robert Mueller reportedly hopes to ask the president, claiming Tuesday morning that the list contains no queries about collusion between his campaign and Russia. The list, which was obtained by the New York Times, however, includes several questions related to collusion.

“What knowledge did you have of any outreach by your campaign, including by Paul Manafort, to Russia about potential assistance to the campaign?” one questions asks. Another: “During the campaign, what did you know about Russian hacking, use of social media or other acts aimed at the campaign?” And again: “What did you know during the transition about an attempt to establish back-channel communication to Russia, and Jared Kushner’s efforts?”

Since the questions were published late Monday, speculation has focused on the likelihood that the list was leaked by a member of Trump’s legal team, or someone who obtained it from them. In any event, Trump’s demonstrated failure to properly review the questions and instead portray them as definitive proof of a “Russian Witch Hunt” might have something to do with the president’s well known avoidance of reading.

"The White House issued an official statement from press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders..."

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough pinned the blame for an explosive — and, apparently, mistyped — White House statement about Iran on new national security adviser John Bolton.

The White House issued an official statement from press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claiming that Iran “has a robust, clandestine nuclear weapons program,” but the Trump administration later walked back those claims by insisting the verb was supposed to be in past tense.

“The question is, is this a message that John Bolton sent out himself and was later forced to walk back from Secretary of Defense, from the Secretary of State?” Scarborough said. “Because that information contradicts what Secretary of State (Mike) Pompeo said just a couple of weeks ago.”

The “Morning Joe” panelists agreed the statement reflected the disorganization inside the Trump administration, but former NATO supreme allied commander James Stavridis said the statement could set up war — regardless of why it was issued with that wording.

Michael Cohen Claimed He Talked With Trump the Day of the Stormy Daniels Deal

Michael Cohen Claimed He Talked With Trump the Day of the Stormy Daniels Deal

https://www.thedailybeast.com/michael-cohen-claimed-he-talked-with-trump-the-day-of-the-stormy-daniels-deal

President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen was in communication with the then-presidential candidate the day Cohen wired hush money to Stormy Daniels, according to previously unreported tweets.

Those tweets cast doubt on a claim that has been promulgated to distance Trump from the payments to the adult film star, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. That claim, which was made anonymously to The Wall Street Journal, is that Cohen “missed two deadlines earlier that month to make the $130,000 payment to Ms. Clifford because he couldn’t reach Mr. Trump in the hectic final days of the presidential campaign.”

In fact, according to Cohen’s own tweets, he was in contact with Trump on the very day the hush-money deal was signed and finalized.

Your misleading and false tweets about the Russian attack on the US are far more outrageous than any joke about @PressSec's eye makeup.

So disgraceful that the questions concerning the Russian Witch Hunt were “leaked” to the media. No questions on Collusion. Oh, I see...you have a made up, phony crime, Collusion, that never existed, and an investigation begun with illegally leaked classified information. Nice!
