calguy's JournalCry, Eagles, Cry
Imagine how depressed they must be after dropping a game to the Seahawks with a backup QB playing his second game this year. Fear and loathing in Philly, but joy and jubilation in San Francisco, with a one-game cushion for the number one seed in the playoffs, even if Baltimore should happen to win a week from tonight.
Are the Cowboys pretenders?
It sure looked like that today. Except for last week against the Eagles, at home, they haven't looked all that impressive on the road against teams with a winning record.
I nearly nearly became a victim of Big Pharma greed.
So about a month ago, I suddenly passed out at a meeting I was attending at a hotel fifty miles from my home. An ambulance was called, and since my heartbeat was around thirty, I was taken to the ER at a local hospital, because the hospital I usually go to was too far away.
After monitoring my heart a few days, it was determined that I was in AFIB or something like that. I received an ablation procedure and was discharged the next day. They put me on two drugs, one of which was the blood thinner Eliquis, because I'm now supposedly at high risk for a stroke. Everything was fine until I found out that Eluquis retails at around $600 for a month's supply, and I'm supposed to take it the rest of my life.
My prescription insurance got the cost down to around $450 a MONTH, but that still would have been financially devastating for me, so I never took the medicine. I made an appointment with a different cardiologist in my local healthcare system, because I can't believe there isn't a cheaper option out there, even though the doctor at the hospital said Eliquis was the only prescription he'd give me.
My first appointment with my new cardiologist was supposed to be this morning, but as luck would have it, I passed out again yesterday while I was getting a haircut, and spent the night in the hospital in our area that I usually go to, so they could monitor my heart rhythm overnight. My new cardiologist saw me at the hospital this morning. He told me he didn't see anything serious enough to have me on blood thinners right now. And if it's determined later that I do, there's much cheaper options on the market.
To make a long story short, I'm home now, feeling fine, and wearing a heart monitor for the next thirty days. He prescribed me one aspirin per day. That's right, instead of it costing me almost $500 a month for the two prescriptions the other hospital said I absolutely had to take, I bought a four-month supply of aspirin for $1.95.
My take after this experience: Some doctors and hospitals are pushing these outrageously over-priced drugs onto patients without regard to the financial hardships they're subjecting their patients to. My condition was treated with other drugs before the new drug Eliquis was promoted with a heavy marketing campaign by Big Pharma. (You've all seen the ads on TV) Always look for other options before going bankrupt on the latest 'miracle' drug the medical profession is shoving down our throats.
My first thought on this potential Israeli hostage deal
Don't know the details, but when I heard Hamas gets 150 of their prisoners back for only 50 of the hostages they hold, I'm thinking the negative propaganda against Israel has worked in Hamas' favor.
Judge Cannon rejects Jack Smith's request for December deadlines in classified documents case
Judge pushes back December deadlines until at least March 1, 2024, all but guaranteeing trial delay
Key players: Judge Aileen Cannon, special counsel Jack Smith
On Friday, Cannon swiftly rejected a Thursday filing made by prosecutors requesting that the judge schedule December deadlines for Trumps lawyers to identify which classified documents they would use at trial, ABC News reported.
Instead, Cannon said she wouldnt consider establishing deadlines until March 1, 2024, when she has scheduled a conference to hear arguments on delaying the trial until after the 2024 election.
Because the case centers around highly classified material, including national security secrets kept at Trumps Florida home, access to the evidence is restricted. Trumps lawyers have argued they need more time to view it.
Cannon has scheduled the trial to begin on May 20, 2024, a date she kept to in a ruling last week. But she also stated that she would revisit the question on March 1.
Why it matters: Trump is seeking to delay the start of the trial until after the 2024 election, which, if he wins reelection, would give him the opportunity to attempt to pardon himself in the federal case should he be found guilty. Cannons March 1 deadline for evidence discovery, which some legal experts say is proof of bias toward the man who appointed her to the bench, makes it more likely that a verdict will not be reached prior to Election Day.

The best catchy slogan the Dems can use next November...
"If the Republicans can't govern themselves, they can't govern you."Jeff Tiedrich: Republican dipshittery is out of control
Every now and then, I remember that noted cosmetics influencer Sarah Huckabee Sanders is actually the governor of Arkansas, and my brain starts to hurt. How the fuck did this happen? How did a mediocre press secretary with a penchant for lying and practically nothing else on her resume get herself elected governor of an entire state and then the veins in my head start to throb and I have to go lie down in a dark room.
Shuckabees governorship so far has been boilerplate Republifascist rule book bans, transgender fearmongering, getting rid of those pesky child labor laws but it wouldnt be a truly Republican administration if there werent also a shitload of clumsy corruption going as well.
Welcome to lecterngate. it goes like this:
Sarah, using state funds, spent $19,000 on a lectern. thats a lot of money, so you might be asking yourself: whats so special about this lectern? is it magical? does it shit rainbows? No, it doesnt do anything. its just a lectern. it just stands there being very lectern-like. And heres a sample of bullshit Sarah vomits out when questioned about her excellent purchase.
When asked about the price of the Falcon-style lectern, with its hourglass-like shape and large reading desk, Sanders said it came equipped with a number of features, though she didnt give specifics.
Im happy to connect you with the vendor that builds and puts these together, but its not really my area of specialty, she told reporters at a news conference last month. Im focused on things Im good at. Building podiums is probably not one of them.
Lets look at some of those features Sarahs been touting.
Feature number one: the lecterns seller is Virginia Beckett, a close friend of Shuckerbee.
Feature number two: the actual value of the lectern is closer ... well, Amazon sells one that looks a lot like it for $771.
Feature number three: after the sale, Virginia Beckett partied with Sarah in Paris.
Good fucking lord, they dont even try to hide it these days, do they.
