Google Buys Drone Maker Courted by Facebook. Internet Giant to Acquire Titan Aerospace

Source: WSJ

Google Inc. GOOGL +1.53% said Monday it agreed to buy Titan Aerospace, a startup maker of high-altitude drones, as the Internet search giant adds more aerial technology to collect images and get more of the world's population online.

Google didn't disclose a purchase price for Titan, of Moriarty, N.M., whose solar-powered drones are intended to fly for years.

Earlier this year, Facebook FB +0.22% had been in talks to buy Titan. But Facebook later said it was buying Ascenta, a U.K.-based aerospace company that has also been working on solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicles, for $20 million.

Do no evil

Oh, I know I'm new here. Still trying to figure out the players and the cliques and rules of engagement.

Then it hit me.

11 years ago today, March 26th 1997.

39 members of Marshall Applewhite's little cult were found dead in a mansion San Diego.

Draped in black shrouds, wearing Nike shoes, each with $5.75 in their pocket for fares, plastic bags over their heads and full of phenobarbital and vodka.

It was known as Heaven's Gate.

Not even sure what brought it to mind.

Just a funny feeling.
