NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - An evangelist is facing a slew of child rape and sexual abuse charges in Murfreesboro, according to court records.
Murfreesboro Police said 32-year-old Benjamin Garlick has been charged with five counts of aggravated rape of a child, five counts of aggravated sexual battery, sexual exploitation of a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child.
The rapes stem from actions that were alleged to have occurred in February 2021. Garlick is being held on a $750,000 bond.
His wife, 29-year-old Shaantal Garlick, is also facing charges, according to police. She is charged with the facilitation of aggravated rape of a child and aggravated child abuse, neglect and endangerment. Shaantal has been released after posting a $75,000 bond.
The Garlick’s will be arraigned on Sep. 26 at 9 a.m.

Social media posts announcing Lauren Boebert as a speaker for a conservative youth conference have been deleted as of Monday, three days after they were posted.
The initial announcement from the Texas Youth Summit came Friday, a day after Lauren Boebert apologized for her behavior at a Sunday show of "Beetlejuice" in Denver, Colorado. The conservative conference announced the representative would speak at their upcoming convention.
The Texas Youth Summit, aimed at children and young adults, allows anyone between 12 and 26 to attend for free. The Summit will be held at the Woodlands Waterway Marriott outside of Houston at the end of the month.
"We are excited to add firebrand Congresswoman @laurenboebert from Colorado's third district to our all-star @texasyouthsummit lineup," the Friday post said.
Christian Collins, founder of the Texas Youth Summit, declined to comment to Insider or clarify whether or not the decision to allow Boebert to speak came before or after September 10.

Nashville voters elected Tennessee’s first transgender lawmaker Thursday, according to the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, a political action group that aims to elect queer people to public office.
The historic victory comes months after Tennessee made national headlines for passing laws that restrict certain drag performances and prohibit transition-related medical care for minors.
Olivia Hill, 57, won one of Nashville Metro Council’s four nonpartisan seats up for grabs, securing 12.9% of the vote, according to election data site Ballotpedia. She served in the Navy for 10 years as an engineer before working as an engineer for Vanderbilt University, according to her campaign website. She has also been a vocal LGBTQ advocate in Nashville and beyond, serving on the board of directors for the Tennessee Pride Chamber, the website says.

An elementary school teacher in Tennessee was charged with rape after police said she sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy and was reportedly grooming other young boys online via video games.
Alissa D. McCommon, 38, who teaches fourth grade at Charger Academy in Covington, was arrested at her home by the Covington Police Department Friday on allegations of sexual misconduct with multiple juveniles in a multi-jurisdictional investigation, police said.
Part of the Tipton County School District, the school is located in West Tennessee in the Mississippi Delta region. Covington is about 40 miles northeast of Memphis.

Former Floyd County Youth Minister pleads guilty in child molestation caseThe former youth minister of a Floyd County church faces up to 40 years in prison after entering a guilty plea to child molestation charges on Tuesday.
When Austin Wray Perkins was arrested on March 9, 2022, as part of a sting targeting child pornography, a release from the Floyd County Police Department stated that he was victimizing a minor who was living at his home and Perkins was also creating explicit videos.
Perkins, 26, pleaded guilty in a non-negotiated plea to one count of felony child molestation and one count of felony sexual exploitation of children in Floyd County Superior Court. Both charges carry the potential of 20 years in prison and each have a five-year mandatory minimum sentence.

The Conservative Political Action Committee and its chairman Matt Schlapp have been accused of "racial discrimination and defamation" by a former female employee, The Washington Post's Maegan Vazquez and Beth Reinhard report.

I need help with a door.
The screws in the hinges have come loose and the door is dragging on the ground. The screw holes are stripped and I need to know the best way to fill them so the screws will hold. Do I need a specific epoxy and use toothpicks like some internet sites suggested? Please help and talk to me like I'm a 5th grader so I can understand.
