Sen. Elizabeth Warren may not be the likeliest vice-presidential pick for Joe Biden, but she’s emerging as the running mate Democratic voters would prefer most — and who they believe would be best for the job.
In a Data for Progress poll shared exclusively with Vox, the Massachusetts senator ranked first as the vice-presidential candidate likely Democratic voters think is most ready to be president and would be best at handling the coronavirus pandemic and implementing policies, including those that benefit working-class people.
Forty-two percent of poll respondents said they believe Warren is most ready to be president, followed by Sen. Kamala Harris at 15 percent, Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 9 percent, former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams at 7 percent, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at 4 percent, and Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto at 3 percent. Nearly 20 percent of respondents said they didn’t know. Warren ranks significantly better than the other candidates surveyed across gender, age, and education. But among black voters, she is basically tied with Harris and Abrams.
Warren outpolled the other potential contenders on nearly every measure. She’s the most preferred vice presidential candidate, with 31 percent support, and the pick Democrats are likeliest to say would make them more inclined to vote for Biden. It is also worth noting that Warren is among the vice presidential contenders with the highest name identification among voters — she ran for president for longer than most of the 2020 field, and she’s a famous figure

An angry demonstrator berated a TV reporter from just inches away over her coronavirus coverage.
During a lockdown protest at Ohio’s Capitol, the woman accused WCMH-TV’s Adrienne Robbins of falsifying her reporting on the COVID-19 crisis and refused to back away at the journalist’s request.
“I asked this woman to respect my space after she was yelling and spitting in my face,” Robbins tweeted afterward. “She said i had no right to social distancing in public and continued to follow me. Complaining about my mask (that is meant to protect her and those around me).”
Doctors recommend wearing masks in public because saliva droplets expelled during speaking can spread the virus, and more droplets are broadcast by shouting — as the protester was within inches of the reporter’s face.

I can still remember walking down the streets in Riverside 1969 before the antiwar protests / riots started getting big, bell bottoms, long hair, , tie dye t-shirt, sun glasses on that sunny day, and I got a ticket for spitting on the side walk............the officer walking towards me that gave me the ticket said that was public health hazard............there was a older man walking by and I asked if he would give him a ticket for spitting, he said no he doesn't know any better ......I was going to make a big deal out of it and he told me you will lose..................the court fine for that incident back in 1969 was $15.00 dollars.............I paid.........maybe this lady should get a ticket............because of public health hazard............

Elon Musk has wiped out billions of dollars in Tesla’s value (TSLA) due to a strange series of tweets, including one in which he claimed Tesla’s stock was trading too high.
The CEO has been using Twitter lately to promote his views that the COVID-19 pandemic is not as bad as it is being portrayed in the media, and how he thinks the US should start lifting its shelter-in-place orders, which he describes as “house arrest” and something that infringes on constitutional rights.
It’s a subject that is divisive even among Tesla fans, which are normally some of his strongest supporters.

Pets bring joy to members of Congress enduring lockdown

Members of Congress say pets are bringing comfort as they work from home and practice social distancing.
Libby, a rescue dog adopted over the 2019 holidays, "can't quite figure out what she did right," Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) said in an April interview.
Houlahan is one of several members of Congress who shared photos of their pets and stories about what it has been like working with their furry companions during the coronavirus crisis.
Whether in emails or phone interviews, every member emphasized the importance of physical distancing during this crisis in order to slow the spread of the virus.

Missouri remains under a COVID-19 stay-at-home order. But that didn’t stop GOP legislators who returned to the capitol this week from reviving a measure that would shore up their political power.
The Missouri House is considering a constitutional amendment that would usher in an anti-immigrant approach to redistricting. The proposal is packaged with several others that would water down an anti-gerrymandering initiative voters approved in 2018.
The House has until May 15 to pass the new measure, in order to put it on the ballot in the fall elections.
Since the so-called “Clean Missouri” constitutional amendment was passed by voters in 2018, lawmakers have tried to get on the 2020 ballot a measure that would undo its key provisions. But their interest in diminishing the political power of immigrant communities predated the approval of the “Clean Missouri” measure.

Infectious Diseases Experts Foresee COVID Reaching 60-70% Of Population In 2 Years

Dr. Michael Osterholm, the director at Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, had some bleak news about the future of the COVID-19 pandemic on Friday.
During an interview on CNN, Osterholm explained a report he and his colleagues at the university had released early in the day, which found that the virus will likely keep spreading for 18 to 24 months until it reaches the high threshold of COVID-19 cases needed to create a herd immunity.
“This is going to continue to do that until 60% or 70% of the population has been infected,” the doctor told CNN anchor Jim Sciutto.
Osterholm warned that the pandemic is a “rolling situation” throughout the world and that New York, which currently has the highest number of cases in the U.S. by far, won’t be the only area to suffer an explosion of infections.

Before embarking on a 36-hour tour through an underground of contractors and middlemen trying to make a buck on the nation’s desperate need for masks, entrepreneur Robert Stewart Jr. offered an unusual caveat.
“I’m talking with you against the advice of my attorney,” the man in the shiny gray suit, an American Flag button with the word “VETERAN” pinned to his blazer, said as we boarded a private jet Saturday from the executive wing at Dulles International Airport.
It remains a mystery why the CEO of Federal Government Experts LLC let me observe his frantic effort to find 6 million N95 respirators and the ultimate unraveling of his $34.5 million deal to supply them to the Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals, where 20 VA staff have died of COVID-19 while the agency waits for masks.
It’s also unclear why the VA gave Stewart’s fledgling business — which had no experience selling medical equipment, no supply chain expertise and very little credit — an important contract. Or why the VA agreed to pay nearly $5.75 per mask, a 350% markup from the manufacturer’s list price. In the end, after ProPublica asked questions about the deal this week, the VA quickly terminated it and referred the case to its inspector general for investigation.

'At least the people in my state are just gonna stop complying,' Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said Thursday that statewide stay-at-home orders should be lifted because his constituents will simply ignore them anyway.
On Fox News, he made the argument that state and federal social distancing guidelines aimed at curbing the COVID-19 pandemic have been a "Nightmare on Elm Street" and that they should be ended.
"We can't sustain this," he said. "Number one, the economy will collapse. And number two, at least the people in my state are just gonna stop complying."
Kennedy claimed that, although he does "respect" Gov. John Bel Edwards' extension of stay-at-home orders until May 15, he thinks the governor "hasn't been able to completely convince the people of Louisiana" that it was necessary to do so. "Many of my people are opening up. Many Louisianians and many Americans — many of us can't earn a living behind a laptop. Many of us don't live in the Hamptons and eat quinoa summer salads," he said.

GOP senator's new ad doesn't mention she paid woman praising her $380,000

Sen. Martha McSally's former staffer is starring in a campaign ad after being paid nearly $400,000 over the years.
Not only does a new campaign ad for Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) feature Kristen Douglas, McSally's former staffer, lying about McSally's position on protecting people with preexisting conditions — the ad also fails to disclose that Douglas formerly worked for McSally and was paid hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years, according to a recent report from the Arizona Republic.
"Martha McSally will fight tirelessly to make sure that people with preexisting conditions are insured," Douglas, a cancer survivor, falsely claimed in the ad. "She's fighting for what's right when it comes to preexisting conditions, and making sure everybody has access to health care."
However, McSally has voted numerous times in Congress to take away health care protections from people with preexisting conditions.
Douglas says in the as that her "path collided" with McSally after battling cancer. The ad did not disclose that Douglas was McSally's campaign manager on her 2014 House race, McSally's deputy chief of staff from 2015 to 2017, and that she worked as a consultant for McSally's failed 2018 Senate campaign.
