Wow the Western Wisconsin Gun Humpers Alliance

also known as the local NRA group is shitting themselves over last night’s election results. They meet at the library near my place and from the conversations I am overhearing you would believe that our newest Supreme Court Justice is on her way to their residences to personally seize their beloved firearms.

Because I think I may have missed it: what happened to the WI redistricting case?

Has it been heard by SCOTUS yet? Lat I remember hearing was that they were going to take it up. The recent PA decision has brought this back to my mind.

So, help me out here. I just heard my bagger Mother-in-law refer to TRUMP as a "handsome devil."

Now, she's 75 and therefore maybe lusting after a younger man, but what can ANYONE possibly like about TRUMP's looks. I was so flabbergasted I couldn't even respond. I mean, she's half right of course, but handsome? Really?

Nunberg: "Arrest me!" Mueller: "Okay."

That is the way it should go down... at least I hope it's that simple.

They have ALREADY managed to change the damned media narrative re: school shootings.

In about a week, the Republicans and the NRA have managed to switch the question under consideration from "Should we ban assault weapons?" to "Should we arm school teachers?" This sucks. Before long we'll be discussing what percentage of school teachers should be armed or maybe what kind of weapon teachers should carry, or even whether teachers should carry rifles fitted with high-capacity magazines. I'm being somewhat facetious but I think you know the point I'm making. We have to find a way to keep the discussion focused on the right question(s) but I am not quite sure how to do that.

I do know that my friends with military and/or police training with whom I have spoken on this matter agree: giving teachers sidearms is not going to solve this problem, no matter how well trained they are. One was a Navy Seal (a real one, so don't call Don Shipley) who, while he is decidedly Republican and pro-Second Amendment, does not believe any private citizen needs a f'ing M-16 copy, AKA an AR-15. And yes, I know the M-16 is capable of full auto.

You know what? I think the NRA is pleased when mass shootings occur. Yes I said it.

This benefits them, because all the gun humpers freak out and run out to buy all the shit they think is about to get banned. Either that or they go out and arm to the teeth because they're gonna defend 'Murica. Either way, the gun manufacturers make bank, and the NRA is nothing more than the lobbyists for the gun industry.

What's a few dead kids if there's MONEY to be made?

My Deplorable in-laws this morning: not the reaction I expected!

My wife's parents, now in their mid 70's are classic Deplorables. Her mom was a school teacher and dad was a union electrician his whole career. In other words, FORMER Democrats who, somewhere along the line, were convinced by Rush, then Hannity and Fox, that their (perceived) declining standard of living was the fault of "coloreds" and "liberals," thus rendering them reliable white blue collar Republican voters. Being in that demographic, they naturally love TRUMP.

Anyway, they both showed up this morning on their way to our nephew's hockey game, and their reaction to the Nunes memo was... interesting? I expected them to kind of smirk and insinuate that TRUMP had been right all along, but that's not what we got. Instead we got my wife's father, red-faced and almost yelling about how we needed MILITARY TRIBUNALS for THAT SCHIFF LOSER and OBAMA and HILLARY and THE REST OF THE DEMOCRATS ON THAT COMMITTEE AND THEY HAD BETTER HAVE LOTS OF ROPE BECAUSE THEY'D BE NEEDING IT!

I am Jewish, of Eastern European and Russian ancestry, and there are several holes in my family tree because of people who thought exactly like my in-laws. This is terrifying.

My wife asked her parents to leave our house. That has never happened before. Dark times.

This whole Nunes Memo thing reminds me of guys who talked big when I played HS football.

I was an offensive and defensive lineman in high school, by no means a great player but good enough to start on the varsity for a couple years on pretty decent teams. Anyway, as most know attempts at verbal intimidation and bravado are commonplace in football, and I got a bit more than my share because I have an obviously Jewish name and lived in a place where there weren't a whole lot of Jews. Now, sometimes guys would run their mouth and then proceed to knock the snot out of me once the game started. Other times, though, their actual abilities fell well short of the talk. When this happened I would always say "That's all you got?"

That's how I feel looking at this memo and the muted reaction to it. I know Comey expressed much the same. Republicans, that's all you got?

Sad.

Happy RUSH Day, Rush fans! (and no, my god, I don't mean Limbaugh!)

I refer, of course, to this day being December 21st, or 21/12!

Is anyone else struck by the irony of Donny Bone Spurs being in Da Nang 50 years after

that terrible ailment made him unfit for the Service?
