guillaumeb's JournalAn 11th Commandment is clearly needed.
One specific to the Religion group. One that would reflect the reality of many of the viewpoints and responses here.
The 11th Commandment to read:
Thou shalt not make any positive references to religion, religious beliefs, or theists in this group.
A thought for the upcoming Easter (x-posted from religion)
Today is Good Friday, the day that Christians believe is when Jesus was crucified. Crucifixion was generally reserved for those who rebelled against the Roman State, so the fact that Jesus was crucified, with the title "King of the Jews" on a plaque fixed to the cross, suggests that to Rome, His crime was clearly treason.
What was His treason? It was stating that He was here to establish a kingdom. And His kingdom was based on what He called the new law that was to replace the old law of the Jewish Bible.
That new law, and the movement He created, have persisted for nearly 2000 years, and spread from one tiny corner of the vast Roman Empire to the entire world.
Those of us who call ourselves Christians attempt to follow His words, and attempt to follow His example. And we fail, and try again.
Have a happy Easter.

Dr. King was so very complex. Obviously a man of faith, but also an incredible analyst of the US, with its at times toxic mixture of capitalism, agression, and racism all interwoven.
Thinking about Adam and Eve. (x-posted from religon)
Thinking about Adam and Eve.
Genesis 2:4-3:24
Adam and Eve
This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the LORD God made the earth and the heavens
.
Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the mans ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The above is an abbreviated version of the story. It can be read as a narrative wherein the Creator fashioned the first 2 humans, but on a deeper level it can be read as science.
Consider the very names Adam and Eve. In Hebrew, the name Adam is derived from the Hebrew word for earth. The name Eve is derived from the Hebrew word for life, or to live. So reading it in that sense, from the earth comes life.
Now, consider the taking of a rib from Adam's side and fashioning a woman from that rib. Consider too that in 5800 BCE humans were presumably aware that man and woman have an equal number of ribs. So any claim that this verse must be only read literally presumes that early man was unaware that male and female have the same number of ribs.
But, if we consider that males are XY and females are XX, that missing rib is the bottom of the X. And I feel that this metaphorical interpretation is deliberate.
So in Genesis, we have the Big Bang, basic earth science, and biology all disguised as a simple creation story.

SPLC sues to restore Mississippi citizens' voting rights
From the article:
It disproportionately harms African-American voters. It even lets legislators decide whose voting rights to restore. And its unconstitutional for all of those reasons, according to a suit filed today on behalf of Mississippians seeking to regain their right to vote.

Where is the Creator?
I found the Creator at Stonehenge, looking at the stones and feeling the spirituality.
I found the Creator in a barrow tomb in Ireland.
I found the Creator at Salisbury Cathedral, walking in a structure that is 800 years old. The huge columns, the fantastic decoration, the carving in wood and stone, the stained glass, all a testament to faith.
I found the Creator when my wife and I attended the Passion Play at Oberammergau in 1984, attending the 350th anniversary of the play.
I found the Creator in a synagogue in Chicago.
I found the Creator at Loyola, even as my understanding evolved.
I found the Creator in the church where I married my wife 38 years ago.
I found the Creator in a mosque in my area.
I will admit that I have no scientific proof, no DNA, no fingerprints, no photographs. Just faith.
And you?
