In India, infant thrown into drain by woman is saved by stray dogs

This is from July, but figured to raise some awareness of this horrific problem.

Chandigarh: In a shocking incident in Haryana - infamous for its skewed sex ratio - a newborn girl, wrapped in plastic, was dumped by a woman in a drain near Kaithal town, police said.

A pack of stray dogs pulled the wailing child out of the drain and started barking. This alerted passers-by who called the police.

The whole incident was caught in a CCTV installed nearby. The CCTV footage showed the woman throwing the baby and then dogs pulling out the baby girl from the drain. A police official told IANS that the incident occurred around 4am on Thursday. "The child is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital," he added.

The Principal Medical Officer of the hospital where the child is admitted said the baby weighs less than 1.1kg and her condition is serious at the moment of reporting.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the unknown woman who was seen throwing the baby girl into a drain.

"We are trying to establish the identity of the woman, who will be charged under relevant sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code)," the police official added.

Republicans in Senate split over one thing that could make them defy Trump: Republicans in the House

Republicans spent Wednesday afternoon bickering over a briefing on Iran, with the sides split between those who believe the briefing was criminally awful and those who believe it’s criminal to even suggest that anything in the Trump White House is less than perfect. But that intramural squabble wasn’t the only example of Republicans in disarray. Inside the Senate, there’s another fight underway over Donald Trump’s upcoming impeachment trial: a fight between Republicans who feel that the Senate can do its own business and those who want to bring in House Republicans with experience in screaming lies for Trump to assist.

As The Washington Post reports, House Republicans are arguing that the sweatiest men in Congress (not the Post’s phrasing, perhaps)—Jim Jordan, John Ratcliffe, and Doug Collins—should come to the Senate not to be part of the House team managing the impeachment, but actually to sit down with White House attorney Pat Cipollone as part of Trump’s defense team.

Senators, including Mitch McConnell, have winced at the idea, partially because they’re worried that bringing in the House scream-team will offend the “moderate” members of the Republican Senate to the point where they may put on a momentary show of almost voting their conscious, and partially because the idea that the Senate needs House members to give Trump a proper defense suggests that the Senate isn’t fully capable of groveling (and grahameling) on its own. McConnell has already been warming up his gavel arm for a trial lasting less than five seconds. Having to wait around while Jim Jordan scoffs at things and Doug Collins repeats his talking points for the ten-thousandth time will only throw off the schedule for McConnell’s pre-determined outcome.

But there’s a problem for senators concerned that House members will get their two-year-term cooties all over the Senate chamber: Even if, as the Post reports, some senators feel that House Republicans “lack the right temperament to be persuasive for a Senate constituency,” it may not matter.

Because Trump really likes the idea.

The Post also collected one of the most Trump White House quotes ever on this still up-in-the-air decision. “There are a lot of rabbits running around claiming to be the very best bunny,” said an unnamed official, “but the president hasn’t yet decided which set of fuzzy tails he’ll use.” The image of Donald Trump deciding “which set of fuzzy tails he’ll use” is not one that the American public needs to focus on for too long.

McConnell continues to express concern about holding his relatively narrow 53-vote advantage together firmly enough to prevent horrible things from happening in the trial. Things like witnesses and evidence that he wants to avoid at all cost. The concern is that there may be some Senate Republicans so ticked-off by having to listen to John Ratcliffe that they may decide they also want to hear from John Bolton. Meanwhile, Trump only wants to get maximum prime-time ass-kissing.

It’s unlikely this fight will go on for long. After all, there are already endless examples of Susan Collins threatening to shake her finger, only to back down and issue a quick Hail Trump. The idea that any Republican is really going to revolt against something that Trump wants is about as likely as being hit by lightning while being attacked by a shark.

But having to listen to more Jim Jordan, John Ratcliffe, and Doug Collins is the kind of thing that could make anyone snap.

The Irwin family has saved over 90,000 animals, including many injured in the Australia wildfires

The Irwin family is continuing Steve Irwin's legacy of rescuing and saving wildlife in danger.

Bindi Irwin, Steve's daughter, and the rest of the Irwin family have rescued and treated over 90,000 animals, many of which were injured in Australia's recent devastating wildfires.
Ollie, an orphaned platypus, was patient number 90,000 at the Wildlife Hospital, Bindi's brother, Robert Irwin, said on Instagram.
"With so many devastating fires within Australia, my heart breaks for the people and wildlife who have lost so much," Bindi said in an Instagram post on Thursday.

The 21-year-old confirmed that the Australia Zoo, which is owned and operated by the Irwin family, and their conservation properties are not endangered by fires
The zoo's Wildlife Hospital has been "busier than ever," Bindi said in the caption of the photo which shows her smiling in front of a picture of Steve and his mother holding a crocodile.
"My parents dedicated our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to my beautiful grandmother. We will continue to honour her by being Wildlife Warriors and saving as many lives as we can," Bindi said.
The environmental activist and conservationist shared another post on Saturday picturing Blossom the possum who died after being rescued from the bushfires burning in Queensland despite the hospital "working so hard to save her life."
Steve Irwin, the TV presenter known as the "Crocodile Hunter," died in 2006 after being stung by a stingray in a marine accident off Australia's north coast.
Blossom is just one of the many animals who have been killed in Australia's fires. Almost a third of koalas in Australia's New South Wales region may have been killed in deadly bushfires, which have been burning out of control

Who benefits from a U.S./Iran War?

I see Putin pulling the strings on this situation again. I could even see him being behind the Baghdad embassy attack.

tRump has been told it will get him out of impeachment, and re-elected.

If escalation continues, what other counties will have our back now that tRump has pissed everybody else off? If the situation were reversed, they know tRump would not stand up for them. You just have to hope they remember our country is more than tRump.

Maybe Putin sees this as an opportunity to get his tentacles into Iran's oil? And push further into the U.S., continuing to isolate us from the rest of the world?
