Think of this has a hostage negotiation. There were two hostages, CHIP and DACA. One hostage is now freed.

We haven't WON. But we are in a slightly better negotiating position than we were 24 hours ago.


Of course McConnell will renege somehow on the DACA vote. And DACA's chances in the House were always slim.
But we have two weeks to make our political case on this.

(CNN) Senators are planning to continue procedural moves to prevent the Senate from formally adjourning for recess next month in order to prevent President Donald Trump from making recess appointments, when the chamber eventually adjourns through the Labor Day weekend.

Using the threat of a filibuster, Democrats plan to force the Senate to hold pro forma sessions — a practice both parties have carried out to block recess appointments from presidents of opposite party, Democratic and Republican aides say.

That's it, really. I don't think there is any other reason. The one thing that unites most Republicans, well, it isn't tax policy. And it isn't racial resentment. It isn't even hating "the gays".

It's that they like to see Democrats lose. It's a trip for them. The idea that Democrats might celebrate, might be on top for once, is too much for many of them to tolerate.
