Ghostbusters: Afterlife. No spoilers.

I like this movie because of the nostalgia it evokes. Yes it is hokey, and I wasn't crazy about the casting at first, but by the end, I had a tear in my eye, and I wondered where all the years have gone. Who ya gonna call...

Text invitations to TFG's new site went out today, I got mine.

Probably because I once signed up for some tickets to his rally and then remembered I couldn't go because I had to wash my hair.

2021: The year our mothers died.

My mother died last month in Baton Rouge at 98. My mother-in-law, 101, died last night in Canada.

My mother was from rural Mississippi and lived in Louisiana most of her life. My MIL lived 100 years on the Central Alberta grain farm settled by her pioneer parents.

My mother lived a soap opera. Joined the Navy, left when pregnant with me, married to save face, divorced and married a man who was not a good stepfather, had four more babies, was widowed, then married a much younger man who took care of her like she was a queen, to her dying day.

My MIL got indoor plumbing at the farm when my husband was 10. She had five sons, which was good for the fields and milking cows but meant she did all the cooking, sewing, and cleaning. At one time there were four boys in two sets of bunk beds in the same tiny bedroom. They had a set of clothes for school, and one for home.

My life was full of angst and drama; his was very stable. The grain farm prospered.

We know our mothers loved us, and we know we were lucky to have them still alive as we passed 70 ourselves. Both were vaccinated against Covid. Both loved to dance; mine loved jitterbug, his loved square-dancing. Both believed in God, unlike us.

Both have grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Two lives that lasted about a century, which seems long when you look back, but short when you look forward.

Tonight we're going to see an 80-yr-old Nobel laureate

play songs we might be able to understand but might not, hoping that he looks up once in a while but he might not.

It's not the first time we've seen him, but it might be the last, so we will take what we can get.

I used my first all-genders-together bathroom today.

We went to a play in Harvard Square. I'm used to unisex bathrooms of course, where any gender can use the single toilet, but this was a big bathroom and I had to walk by men at urinals to get to a stall. (I'm a woman.)

This brought up a question in my mind. If there's a crowd, and a line forms for the bathroom, can men bypass the line if they're just headed to a urinal? It's not like they're cutting in front of me since we're not competing for a urinal. But if they need a stall, they can't cut. So, if a man stays in line, we know what he has to do.

🙂

Pros and cons of being born on this date.

Growing up, I never had a birthday party in school, which was bad. Working as an adult, I always had my birthday off, which was good.

There are organizations of people who see 11:11 when they look at the clock, and think it's a portal to the key to the universe. This is all true, and the secret to life is a white birthday cake with pink icing rosettes that says Happy 77th Nana. (I know because I peeked in the back of the frig.)

Losing weight is easy, just move your book collection around.

This week we decided to take down a whole wall of shelving full of books. I had to look at every book, check value on Bookfinder, sort piles for donation vs keep. Today we put crates of books on the street and I'm sure they will be gone by evening. (That's how we acquired lots of them in the first place!) I used to be an eBay seller but I stopped for Covid and never started back up.

We are left with just a couple hundred books that are mostly antique little treasures.

Anyway, this morning I'm down two pounds. Just in time for Halloween candy. 👻

Ok, I couldn't resist, I bought Dylan tickets.

Presale today, surprisingly cheap, only $216 for two orchestra seats including fees. November 27 in Boston.

The last time we saw him, years ago at a NH college campus, we swore never again. He did not look up ONCE during the entire concert.

But hey, it's Dylan. We will go.

We got surprise boosters tonight.

I read that availability for over-65's started today at CVS so I made an appt. for an hour later. No slot was open for hubby but they gave him one as a walk-in.

I believe we should be sharing vaccine with the world and sending doses to under-served countries, but I saw no need to postpone our own.

THE CONNORS returns and...ugh (SPOILERS)

I've loved this show and was excited for the season premiere last night.

After seeing a "spiritual advisor," Darlene gets down on her knees and prays to God, for real, and it's not a joke?

And bizarre phone calls to distant family members made no sense.

So disappointed. Maybe next week will be better...
