Turnpike Bridge, Secaucus, NJ

This came up in my FB memories, two years ago today. Nice drive home to MA from FL. Taken from the car window with my phone.

Poshmark's cushy deal with the post office

As a long-time eBay seller, I thought I was an expert on all things shipping. So I was concerned when my teenaged granddaughter started selling clothes on Poshmark and said she never weighed a package or worried about what box to use. All things get shipped Priority at a cost to the buyer of $7.45. Small, medium, large flat-rate boxes... $7.45.

It finally bothered me so much, I looked it up. Sure enough, Poshmark items ship for $7.45. Below is the (hard to read) explanation I found.

I wonder... Do lots of companies have this, and why doesn't eBay?

Brain exercise: Name the colors, don't read the words.

I had to go a little slow.

Remembering a stroll to the Somerville Theater in 2003

We walked over to many live events in addition to countless movies. Looking forward to more, since they seem to be surviving. This is a poster on our wall.

We just watched "The Dig" (no spoilers)

Based on a true story; nicely done. It revived in me a longing to do an archeological dig in my side yard, where a house stood before 1873, when it vanished from the city archives (maybe burned down?).

I've dug many old outhouse sites in New Orleans for antique bottles. It's magical to find a treasure.

(MA) Link to Danvers vaccine sign-up

Slots are added at 8am every day; the site crashed for a while today but I was able to get an appt. for my husband. They're gone for today, but hundreds will be added tomorrow. He's newly eligible (over 65). I got my first shot already (over 75) in Danvers two weeks ago.

The main sign-up site that includes Fenway and Gillette etc. was crashed all morning.

Whole-house generator FTW

I always rolled my eyes when my stepdad gloated about his whole-house generator. Now that I'm in BR while my mom's in rehab after a fall, I see that his pride was justified.

It's been over 24 hours since power went out and the generator kicked in, and we're toasty warm watching his old Western movies. Generators along the block sound just like snowblowers on the street.

I'm going home to MA today if I can clear the ice coffin off my rental car. I feel so bad for people without power right now. If any neighbors come to our front door we would gladly help, but we're two old people so can't do much outreach.

A one-day vaccine appt turn-around astounds a grumbling old skeptic.

I'm in Baton Rouge (down from MA) because my mother, almost 98, had a fall and is in rehab. I'm staying with her husband, 87, at their house, for a few days. We can go visit with her through a sliding-glass door.

The day I arrived, I told him I'd gotten my first vaccine (I'm 76) and he ranted about how he couldn't get his because others were being prioritized over him. I called bullshit.

He doesn't use a computer and has no smart phone. I looked up a few places and submitted his information. The very next day--yesterday--he got a phone call. "We have extra shots, if you can come right in."

I rushed him over. There was no line, no waiting. He got his shot, a sticker on his shirt, and an appt for the second shot.

He came home, put the sticker on the bathroom mirror, and said that on some days, things go good.
