Bush ethics lawyer: Trump's Russia scandal so far is "much worse" than the early stages of Watergate

Richard Painter
The facts now in this investigation are much worse than the facts in the early stages of Watergate, which was a simple break-in ordered by midlevel campaign officials — not by the president. Here we have facts that are much worse: We have a foreign power that has orchestrated a break-in. It’s a much worse situation than the outset of Watergate.

Tara Golshan
What have you made of the White House’s response to this? You were the ethics lawyer under the Bush administration — are they following the guidance you would have given in this situation?

Richard Painter
I don’t see much of a response. They are blowing it off. It’s very clear President Trump needs to immediately find out who in his campaign had any communications with the Russians about anything. Find out what those communications were to the best of his ability and find out who in the administration knew what the Russians were doing. He needs to support a thorough inquiry, not a cover-up — that is the mistake Nixon made with Watergate.

Their public comments have been atrocious so far. They keep accusing CNN of fake news; then the spokesperson for the Kremlin accuses CNN of fake news. What we are seeing is the White House putting themselves on the same page as the Kremlin, when they [the Russians] have been spying on the United States and attacked our democratic system in 2016. That is a terrible posture they are in.

Why VOICE is a good idea for VICTIMS OF IMMIGRATION and CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT

Remember the woman with cancer who was a Victim of Immigration and Customs Enforcement?

http://thehill.com/latino/ice-immigration-detainee-brain-tumor-taken-from-hospital

VOICE (VICTIMS OF IMMIGRATION and CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT) need a website to counter what Trump is doing, to show the truth, that immigrants, especially undocumented immigrants, are less likely to commit violent crimes than other groups of people. They need a place to show their contribution to society and to show how their families are being broken up. We need to show that Trump is only interested in stirring up fear and hatred to fulfill a racist agenda. Is there is anyone with the skills and the time to take on this project?

Fox News defends CNN from Trump ban: CNN reporting is not fake. It has same standards as Fox News

Fox News anchor Shepard Smith defended CNN on Friday after the news organization was barred from spokesman Sean Spicer’s question-and-answer session at the White House.

"For the record, 'fake news' refers to stories that are created, often by entities pretending to be news organizations, solely to draw clicks and views and are based on nothing of substance," Smith said during his program.

"In short, fake news is made up nonsense delivered for financial gain. CNN’s reporting was not fake news. Its journalists followed the same standards to which other news organizations, including Fox News, adhere," he added.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort was blackmailed over Russia ties after being hacked

A new report suggests that Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, was the victim of a blackmail attempt by a Ukrainian parliament member who was aware of both Trump’s and Manafort’s connections to President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Manafort has ties to Russia that include his having worked for the pro-Russian former president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, and an FBI investigation of Trump’s connections to Russia may also examine Manafort. According to Politico, Manafort’s daughter received a text from Serhiy Leshchenko, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, that threatened to expose Manafort’s financial ties to Yanukyovych and an alleged meeting of Trump with Yanukyovych crony Serhiy Tulub.

Russia Compiles Psychological Dossier on Trump for Putin

MOSCOW — A dossier on Donald Trump's psychological makeup is being prepared for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Among its preliminary conclusions is that the new American leader is a risk-taker who can be naïve, according to a senior Kremlin adviser.

Trump "doesn't understand fully who is Mr. Putin — he is a tough guy," former Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Fedorov told NBC News.

If you could give Donald Trump one piece of advice, what would it be?

Let's suppose Donald Trump sometimes reads DU. Here is your chance to give him some good advice. What one piece of advice would you want to give him?

Ten things that would probably happen if Trump attended a British state visit.

I've heard a lot of arguments why Trump should be disinvited from a state visit to Britain, but what would likely happen if the visit went ahead?

Based on past behavior:

1/ He would arrive to the biggest, anti-racism protests in British history.

2/ He would publicly insult somebody or a group of people in Britain.

3/ He would tell the British people they have a big problem with Muslims.

4/ He would boast about how he was right about Brexit.

5/ He would make a highly divisive speech with glaring British historical errors.

6/ He would be all over the British newspaper front pages for displaying his idiocy and bigotry.

7/ He would give the Queen the weirdest, longest, most disrespectful handshake ever.

8/ He would later claim the Queen supported him to defend his worst policies.

9/ He would get in a Twitter war with a British politician that disagreed with him.

10/ He would return to America and claim his visit was a big success and the British people loved him.

What stories are phony?: Don Lemon nails GOP pundits when they cant give fake news examples

"I’m asking what story specifically is phony or fake?” Lemon asked again.

“That’s he and Putin have a love fest for example,” Bauer said. “You keep pounding they have a bromance.”

The panel remarked that Trump compliments Putin every opportunity he gets. They refused to accept that the Russia story was “fake.”

“Ok, go on, give me the next one. What’s the next one?” Lemon asked.

“Where are the accolades for what Netanyahu actually said about Trump?” Bauer asked.

“Priebus talking about phony stories. Can anyone give me an example?” Lemon asked again.

“I don’t want to speak for Reince Priebus,” Bauer replied. “I don’t know what stories he’s talking about.”

Trump is viewed with concern by 78 percent of respondents in Germany, an increase from 62 percent in January, according to the FG Wahlen poll for ZDF television. Fifty-eight percent take a similar view of Putin’s policies, while 40 percent expressed no major concern about the Russian president.
