Janus' Gross says Trump will be one-termer, in failure for populism

President-elect Donald Trump will last no more than four years in the White House, a period when corporations and Wall Street will retain the upper hand over the struggling workers who helped elect him in a populist wave, bond manager Bill Gross of Janus Capital said on Wednesday.

In his monthly investment outlook, "Populism Takes a Wrong Turn," Gross also said "there is no new Trump bull market in the offing," and that global diversified investors should be "satisfied" with 3 percent to 5 percent annual returns.

"The Trumpian Fox has entered the Populist Henhouse, not so much by stealth but as a result of Middle America's misinterpretation of what will make America great again," Gross wrote.

"Trump's tenure will be a short four years but is likely to be a damaging one for jobless and low-wage American voters," Gross added. "I write in amazed, almost amused bewilderment at what American voters have done to themselves."

JOB DESCRIPTION
You are a pro-active self-starter who knows instinctively what you’re supposed to do and is capable of articulating exactly what that is to your team and also to us as soon as possible. You are comfortable with uncertainty and thrive on lack of clarity and vision. You are a team player, no matter which of our ideologically contra-indicated teams you work for in this competitive, cut-throat, backstabbing, collegial environment. You are constantly thinking about how you can challenge norms and/or uphold them. You are a disruptor always innovating new ways to defend the status quo.

ABOUT US
We are a dynamic team of entrepreneurs and business leaders who know how to run successful businesses by identifying and exploiting inefficiencies in markets and old people. Our leadership team represents combined decades of experience meeting and/or not meeting shareholder goals and guiding companies through self-created corporate challenges. We have no experience whatsoever in government and are pretty fucking fuzzy on its philosophical underpinnings let alone what it’s supposed to do. We want to hear your ideas!

The Strange History of Steve Bannon and the Biosphere 2 Experiment

Biosphere 2 was meant to lay groundwork for future space colonization missions, as well as act as an environmental and social experiment: Eight scientists were to be locked into a three-acre dome containing five different earthly biomes for two years, from September 1991 to September 1993. The goal was to see if humans could survive and become self-sufficient in a "closed system"—that is, one that was not supposed to have any supplies coming in or out. Texas philanthropist Ed Bass, who’d inherited his family’s oil fortune but took on ecological causes, poured the $200 million project, but hired Bannon in 1993 to stop the huge runaway costs of the experiment gone awry. Read more about the Biosphere 2 experiment, here.

Bannon spoke out on climate change concerns more than 20 years ago

Orlando to buy Pulse nightclub, turn it into memorial

ORLANDO — The city of Orlando has announced plans to purchase the Pulse nightclub and eventually convert the site of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history into a memorial.

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer told the Orlando Sentinel on Monday that the city has reached a deal to buy the gay nightclub for $2.25 million.

Dyer says the site should probably remain as-is for the next 12 to 18 months, as it has become a gathering place for mourners.

More Floridians have already voted than the total in Bush v. Gore

More than 6 million Floridians have already cast their ballots in early voting, either in person or by absentee ballot.

That is more than the total 5.9 million votes cast by registered voters in 2000. George W. Bush versus Al Gore was the closest race in recent history.

steve schale sez:

On Sunday, I took my Turkish crew to the St. Mark AME Church for a Souls to the Polls service with Val Demings and Kamia Brown, after which we visited an early voting site nearby. The lines at noon were already quite long, so it came as no surprise that Orange County (Orlando) set a turnout record. And so did Osceola, and Hillsborough, Broward, Palm Beach, Duval, Leon, Pinellas, and yes, Miami Dade.

Total Ballots cast: 6,419,154

Total Vote By Mail: 2,549,633 (41.5%)

Total Early Vote: 3,869,521 (58.5%)

Democrats: 2,558.072 (39.85%)

Republicans: 2,470,823 (38.49%)

NPA: 1,390,259 (21.66%)

Total Margin: DEM +1.36%
